  1. How about the Bobcats going out to LA and taking it to the Lakers last night? Kobe even got ejected at the end of the game. Classic.

The Bobcats really get no respect. A big win like this and here's how the story from the newswire begins: LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Jason Richardson had 34 points and 10 rebounds, and the Charlotte Hornets stunned the Los Angeles Lakers 108-95 on Wednesday night in a game where Kobe Bryant drew two technical fouls in a span of 29 seconds late in the fourth quarter and was ejected.

  2. Any idea if Lucky Strike will still be the vendor running the bowling alley? They have such a cool urban chic flair to their operations.

Not sure if it will be Lucky Strike, but he did say that this would not be your typical bowling alley, so I don't think you'll see Fred and Barney chugging beers there on their Monday bowling night. I've never been to a Lucky Strike, but I would assume the EpiCentre bowling alley will be something like Bowlmor Lanes in NYC (www.bowlmor.com), which is sort of like disco bowling with neon lights and pins and loud music, either 70s or 80s theme depending on the night. Hopefully, it will also have a martini bar.

  3. Ghazi also mentioned that there would be lots of cool signage and that there would be an element of a "Times Square" feel to it.

He said the bowling alley could be either 10 or 15 lanes...they were still toying around with which size they will go with.

He confirmed that the hotel operator is indeed W, and this will be their first "W Loft" concept hotel.

And most importantly, there will be a Cold Stone Creamery!

  4. Latest rumor on Mills is that New York-based Vornado Realty (VNO) is taking a hard look at possibly upping the ante on Simon. VNO just lost a bitter takeover battle on Equity Office Properties to Blackstone and obviously has a lot of dry powder at their disposal to make an acquisition.

  5. NorthLake has found it necessary to put up freestanding signs in front of all of the entrances that are titled. "Rules of Common Courtesy". :whistling:

Basically it is a list of bad behaviors that one should not demonstrate while inside the mall.

Having not been to Northlake in quite awhile (apparently I'm not alone), I'm just curious as to what type of behavior has been going on there which would necessitate such a sign?

  6. Looks like Concord Mills and the rest of The Mills Corp. is being sold to Brookfield Asset Management Inc. I didn't see if they would be selling off any property or change anything with current properties. Any speculations?

Although I think Brookfield is a solid real estate owner and operator, most of its assets are large office buildings in major U.S. and Canadian MSAs. Sans some small mixed use components built into its office buildings, Its only retail assets are held in Brazil, of all places. Therefore, since there is no overlap and most of the Mills properties are performing well, I doubt Brookfield will do anything drastic for at least a year until it evaluates the entire portfolio. Perhaps it will take on an experienced retail property manager as a partner. But what about the name - Concord Brookfield? I don't think so.

  7. Most of Mills' properties are performing quite well. Unfortunately, it has been mismanagement at the corporate level, including accounting screwups that apparently are layers thick - in addition to getting over its head with the Meadowlands Xanadu project - that may ultimately doom the company.

  8. I don't know if this mall is still busy like it was just a couple of years ago, but someone apparely pulled out a gun there this weekend and started firing into the air. It was the result of an argument.

I wonder if anyone even noticed. These seems to be a fairly routine occurance at Eastland.

  9. 65k doesn't seem like much, considering how much they've spent on advertising. I'd like to know that figure...... Anyone care to guess?

I'm guessing a at least a $million - but probably more - since they've had a full page advert in just about every issue of every Charlotte based publication for the past 2 years.

  10. i hope not before next spring as george clooney & crew will be in town to film his next movie. they will be filming @ memorial stadium... i was told the look of the stadium is a big reason they're coming to charlotte.

Sorry, a little off topic, but interesting -

The name of the movie is "Leatherheads", about the early days of pro football in the 1920s. Apparently, Universal's been trying to make this movie for almost a decade. Of course, Clooney will direct, produce and star. Looks like his leading lady will be Renee Zellweger.

  11. I just spoke to my good friend who owned a contract at the Renwick and he confirmed what we have been discussing over the last several weeks regarding the contract cancellations. Under the advice of his lawyer, he refused to sign the contract cancellation document that he was originally sent, but the Renwick folks sent him a check for his $4,000 down payment anyway. Under that action, I'm assuming the developer just cancelled the contract without his signature. He said that his lawyer is currently trying to get an additional $10,000 on top of the down payment, but he's not too optimistic. Even if he were successful, it's still a big disappointment compared to the ~$100k he was hoping to make on the flip. Greedy and shameful indeed!

Wait...which is greedy and shameful - the fact that the developer is cancelling the contract or that your friend was looking to get rich by flipping a condo? :whistling:

  12. I visited Northlake for the first time in several months yesterday, and to my surprise the place was absolutely packed!! I'm sure the lousy weather and Columbus Day sales may have had something to do with that, but still....this is good to see. Also, with many of the outparcel sites being built out now, many with decent stores and chain restaurants, you can definitely spend a whole day there.

  13. Luke...UNCC made it to the Final Four back in the '70's. I think '74, but I didn't look it up.

1977 to be precise - UNCC came within one shot of making it to the finals but eventually lost to the other cinderella team that year, Marquette.

I don't think we need football at UNCC. We have enough lousy college FB teams in this state as it is.
