  1. That Bloomingdales SUCKS. There mens section is Horrible. I think they just need a better selection. The Lenox Mall Bloomingdales is WAY better and bigger.

I honestly think that the Macy's in Lenox is better than the Bloomies in Perimeter.

I kinda don't understand why it sucks so, because the Nordrstrom in Perimeter is good. Shouldn't they want to make that Bloomies better so it can compete with that Nordstrom?

  2. Wow. I bet all these stores were suppose to go to streets of buckhead. That kinda sucks in my opinion because arent all the SOB stores supposed to be flagship? SOB is back on track. I bet eventually stores are gonna leave the malls and go to SOB. Can't wait till it opens.

  3. ESPN zone wasn't all that anyway. They should really consider moving it downtown. Buckhead doesn't seem like the right area. On a brighter note, maybe in a year or two, a flagship Barneys can take a spot right across from sob

  4. In 2008, it was reported that the Barneys CO-OP store at Phipps Plaza will relocate inside the mall for a new, two level store.[1] Nine new stores are projected to locate in the mall, including Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Vera Wang and De Beers.

And Lenox is 8th in the country in Top sales of any mall

Where are you getting your info from? I've never heard anything about those new stores opening at Phipps. Please don't tell me you are using wikipedia as a source.....

  5. Well, can somebody take a picture of the Belk In Charlotte or compare it to the Macy's at Lenox or something, because it must be 5 times better than the Belk at Phipps.

Ive always thought the Macys at Lenox was a great store. Huge 3 level Men's section and a huge handbag section.

  6. I understand what you're saying. From the way people on this forum praise Belk, you feel like you should be expecting something as nice as at least Nordstrom, if not Neimans and Saks. But, even the Belk at Southpark can't compare to these upscale retailers. Yes its lage, but its no has the same upscale feel/clean cut display/nice merchandise as these stores. At best, its a nice Macy's, and thats all you should be expecting. Of course, its nothing like a Mervyns or JC Penney (the SP store is definitely not the average Belk), but its no Saks or Barneys either.

Other news, Macy's poor performance for the last few years has costed it 9 stores. Also, some stores that may be affected is the Macy's at Lenox (since right now the Florida is its own region). They may be combining Macy's South and Florida, thus transferring the flagship title to Miami and making the Lenox location smaller (perhaps some moving or something? its still quite vague and their actions aren't known for sure.)

Yeah, I read somewhere that they are closing some stores. None were in the ATL area though.

Do you seriously think they'll make the Macy's at Lenox smaller......I doubt that

  7. I went to the Belk in Phipps and I wasn't impressed. It wasn't so much that is was a sorry department store but I was expecting it to be similar to the Macy's at Lenox. This Belk was just like the Belk in Savannah, which is nice and all but doesn't need to go in Phipps Plaza. It was very cramped and small. It also didn't have a large selection. The mens section at Macy's seemed bigger than the entire Belk(its not, but you get what Im saying.) I think they should have expanded and Remodeled that Belk if they wanted it to be a flagship because I just don't feel like Im in a "flagship" store when Im in that Belk. Especially compared to the Macy's at Lenox. That store gives you that flagship feel, with its size and selection. Maybe the flagship Belk in Charlotte is alot better.

  8. Yeah I believe Bloomingdales is 4 floors too.

The Bloomies and Macy's in Lenox are HUGE. I've always been amazed by the size of those department stores. The Macy's mens section alone is spreaded throughout 3 floors and their handbag section is just rediculous

There is a second floor below the ladies section in bannana republic.

  9. Well, they may not open a store as soon as space is open on the mile. But, Atlanta is going to be a very different place within the years to come. I wouldn't be surprise if Diesel or some other store thats in Lenox open a bigger flagship store on the Mile. There is going to be a lot more peopel living on Peachtree and intown period. Maybe they are testing the market with that small store. I can see Atlanta with two Diesels and 2 or more of a lot of other stores

  10. Do you know when Diesel is going to open? I heard it will be around the first of the year.

Diesel is open now. Like I said earlier, the store seems a bit small. But its nice on the inside and out. Hopefully they'll open a flagship on the Midtown Mile.

On the other hand, Ralph Lauren looks pretty big, with two levels and all. Calvin Klien also looks like its going to be pretty big. They both open on Oct 27

  11. You are saying exactly what my point is! Yes, a lot of people REGIONALLY travel to Orlando as opposed to Atlanta to shop. If someone in Gainesville Florida decides they want to go to Bloomingdales to shop, they are going to have to drive quite a distance to do so. There is a Bloomingdale's in Orlando. More than likely they are going to drive to Orlando, not Lenox to go to Bloomingdales. You do realize that we are talking about premiere shopping destinations, correct? Not your everyday Savannah or Gainesville shopping. Now the point was, just 5 or so years ago, that person would have gone to Atlanta to go to that premiere shopping at Lenox. NOW they can go to Orlando because that premiere shopping is available there. They are building more premiere shopping in Jacksonville right now. Say in a year you want to buy a special designer suite (Hugo Boss) or something and Jacksonville has a Boss store. Wouldn't you drive the much shorter distance from Savannah to Jax to get that suite rather than all the way to Atlanta? Same as somebody in Valdosta, etc. Say someone in Fayetteville, NC wants to go shopping at Nordstrom. There is a Nordstrom in Charlotte. Are they going to drive to Nordstrom in Charlotte or Atlanta? Do you get the point now? Maybe you don't understand the difference between American Eagle Outfitters and Zara. Or Sears and Neiman Marcus. Is that why you don't understand? This is not meant to be offensive or critical like you are taking it. I am talking about the changing shopping patterns in the southeast for PREMIERE shopping and how it affects Lenox/Phipps. I hope you finally understand.

    :rofl::rofl:THAT WAS HILARIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I would respond but really, I think we need to just drop it or we will literaly be debating for years :shades:

Like ironchapman said, lets just talk about development happening at Lenox and Phipps and I can't wait until the new Ralph Lauren opens. And is it true that stores in the new Neimans wing are going to be 2 levels?

  12. When I say Atlanta wins by default I mean that most people would rather take a 2 hour drive to the A, shop and return within the same day, instead of basically planning an expensive trip to FLA to shop. Except, obviously , the 20,000,000 people in FLA.

And I still don't know who travels to Orlando, besides Floridians, JUST TO SHOP. I think Orlando's retail scene has had a lot of help from Tourist coming to vist the theme parks and resorts. Which I think is very cool also.

Im saying FLA is being overated because Atlanta is basically being underrated. Even though some of these other places may have a couple of luxery stores, Atlanta still has a lot that most places in the south don't have. And yes toursim as well as the Market is thriving.

  13. 1st of all, Im from SAV, which is South GA. I havn't heard that many people saying they want to go anywhere in FLA to shop. Not Jacksonville-because there is not enough there and the rest of the places are to far and expensive to stay. Maybe South FLA but again not too many people can aford to go there just to shop. And no one, at least in GA, wants to go to Orlando just to shop. Those customers are coming from theme parks. I think FLA is being a bit overhyped.

And as far as people choosing to shop in Charlotte instead of Atlanta. Im pretty sure its because Charlotte is closer and I mean a hell of a lot closer.

And acually, Atlanta is getting more and more tourist so it'll probably rely more on out of towners than intowner. more and more people are coming here for all sorts of things.

And like I've said before. Atlanta is just in the center of everything. Miami is way down there and Charlotte is a bit far north and depending on where your coming from, Nashville is just out of the way. Atlanta wins by default.

  14. I think ATL will get a Barney's but definatley not next year. We would already know the location and everything if it was coming next year. Probably within the next couple of years when Buckhead avenues gets done. I'd say 2010.

  15. I'm sure the ranking would probably be based on retail space square footage, or retail space square footage in the upscale market. There's no doubt that the ATL has some great shopping and is a big regional draw for the South (except for Central/South Florida.) But there is some competion coming on line quickly for Atlanta. Atlanta will eventually lose the Charlotte market and probably Raleigh/Durham. Nashville will probably start (or already has started) growing in upscale retail options. Unfortunately New Orleans is probably seeing a decline in upscale retail, but I believe tour-shoppers from NO will probably mainly head to Houston. When I lived in Dayton, Ohio, we travelled to Columbus for some of the "limited market" stores, like Pottery Barn or Williams Sonoma and Detroit, Atlanta or Chicago for the large upscale markets. Now Detroit and Chicago and Atlanta are losing tour-shoppers due to growing upscale retail in Columbus and Indianapolis. (And Cleveland, Pittsburgh to a smaller extent.)

I would also say that LA is a US fashion center as well as Miami. Miami has a fashion district and quite a few South American designer label shops. Upscale Latin fashion is huge in South Florida, just like the old episodes of Miami Vice, check out CSI Miami, there is always an insane number of people wearing pink shirts!

I think Atlanta will be even more popular with fashion when all the developments get buit out within the next 5 years. THere are going to be a lot more tourist coming here and lets not forget Buckhead avenues and the street car system which will also help with tourist. People will probably shop in their local areas (Charlotte or Nashville) sometimes and when they want to really shop they'll come to Atlanta, which will help Atlanta establish itself or validate itself as a Fashion destination

Oh and if Atlanta isn't in the top 10 in the US, can somebody tell me what 9 cities or areas are ahead

  16. They should put a ready to wear in phipps.

Wouldn't it be cool if they renovated the plaza area where the resturaunts use to be and made it one big store. Like a big Apple or Ralph Lauren or something like that. What are they doing to that area anyway
