What about draping the Press building with a cloth, and then projecting images onto it?
Good thought. The way I understand it, for group entries, each member of the group still pays his/her 50 dollar entry fee. I think it's a good value - for others, not so much.

looks to me like a scooter
That is some butt-ugly signage.

That was fun...in short order I "earned" 4000 kernels of rice and ended up at 42.
All that reading has paid off! Good question, though - how many much rice equals a meal?

I never post on this thread...it's Meijer...who cares?
I went into M@C though and I have to say: I was blown away.
That is totally my new grocery store even though it's about 5 minutes further from my house than M@Knapp's
I really like the new store....very impressive.
Okay, I'm convinced...will stop in next time for the weekly grocery shopping - it's no farther from me than Knapp's Corners or 28th and 'zoo.

May I ask what the incessant posting and praise singing of Meijer by one or two posters is all about? Employed by the company, perhaps? Or just easily impressed? Not attempting a flame war, here, but, sheesh, nearly everytime I pop in, the top post in the Coffee House is - wait for it, drum-roll, please, "MEIJER".

We talk a lot about who's doing the construction, financing, development of these various projects,
but does anyone know who is doing all the IT work for them? I mean, how does it happen that
all these buildings get wired for the various networking capabilities they need? It seems like there
would be a lot of jobs in the IT/computer fields with all the building of these hospital/medical care
facilities and that would be good for the area, but these companies/individuals seem so quiet.
Could going in this direction, more companies, more individuals doing this sort of work in Michigan
help the economy? Or doesn't it take much to get these buildings hooked up and going?

Here ya go:
DEEP FREEZE coming Sunday!!
Yay! I'm with you on this one, Jeff. It's cold weather time. Waaaay too warm for me
for the time of year. Time for dashing through the snow...!

Now if UICA does move into that corner, and with the renovation of the Civic Theatre, then that would be even a stronger push to make the Keeler Building into my idea for a "Creative Arts/Technology Center", bringing in Kendall College, Calvin's Art Program, local companies with big design departments like Herman Miller, Haworth, and Steelcase, and a number of other high tech graphic design/arts tenants.
Ha, just imagine Division Avenue being THE center of the city again.
Nice sentiment but probably WAY too much competition betwixt and between all of the
entities mentioned there, Dad. Not feasible to expect competing companies to have
design staff in close proximity to 'the other guy'. Also, not likely public and private
learning institutions can live together - again, too much competition for those
tuition dollars. And, don't forget, Kendall has the current art museum building and
not enough bucks to renovate that which explains in part why they have let go of
their reputation for quality and let anyone in who knows which end of a pencil to use,
or how to turn on a computer. This city, and the art departments of local colleges
doesn't need to turn out more art graduates, they need to turn out more quality.
Housing. Maybe housing.

Just an FYI, the burden is on you to get permission...not the photographer to deny it.
Your post reads like those auto-renewal magazine subscriptions...."tell us if you don't want it or we'll sign you up for another year at the no-longer-introductory rate of $50/year!"

Hello, All!
I am requesting permission to use some of your photographs that
have been posted in the various forums for use on my blog. I'd like
to do a photo album and blog entry about our fair city. I don't have
a digital camera, and well, face it, some of you take many of the
best pics of GR I've ever seen!
I will credit Urban Planet as well as each photographer individually
and include a link to here.
If you will allow me to use your photos, no need to respond, I'll
take that as a yes. If you have any objections, just let me know
either here or PM me, and I will refrain. I'll wait a couple of days
before proceeding to give anyone time to object. Thanks everyone
in advance.

Contrats nitro! There will be a torgo jr running around pretty soon too...but I dont know if it'll be a boy or a girl yet.
Congratulations to you all!!!

How is that neighborhood doing? Absolutely incredible views, but I remember it as being a pretty rough 'hood. There are good houses up there, however, and it is very close to downtown.
-
Gosh, it's going to be a fun day in the City!
GridGirl, do you have the performance schedule for both of these events?
Anyone? Hope it's another beautiful day for an outdoor celebration.

Love the Meijer at Kazoo and 28th. Said it before, will again, it is my
International Meijer. Plans are, when the old man goes, so goes this
store. Been shopping there long enough to know that many of the
check out people have been there for years and years and I enjoy
that kind of familiarity. Love hearing all the languages spoken there
on a busy Saturday morning. Enjoy being in the midst of so many
shoppers who may look and speak differently than I do, doing exactly
what I'm doing - getting groceries and supplies - we are all human.
I should have said *rumors* are...

Amen, brother. That thing shook and rocked and made all sorts of noises.
(Still loved riding it. )
I hopped that train in the early 60's - it was a little jerky, but the scariest part
was being that far off the ground when you're 2 1/2' tall!

The Harris Building on S. Division

The GRPD is now in the old Herpolscheimers building. Wurzburgs was the
department store now gone. Steketees occupied the building where River
Bank books and Blue Cross is. Visiting all three before Christmas in the
early 60's was a treat beyond words for a kid.

Exactly right. Douma's was next located on Fulton Street near Jefferson until online ordering of discounted art supplies basically put their retail and wholesale divisions
out of business. Wonderful art supply store. I miss it.
