  1. I did some research. I see what you're saying, and I agree. There are some cities in Europe that have smaller buildings, but it's not really so prevalent to really justify the label of "European". Orlando is definately heading in the direction of Vancouver, and I would also add Honolulu (without the paradise surroundings) in that this city is dense but I think there's nothing over 500 feet, or even 450 for that matter.....in comparison with these cities we're missing the beautiful mountains or the paradise setting of Hawaii. Nope, we got swamps. Oh, and lots of trees that like to burn... For the time being, Salt Lake City and Sacramento are in the same bucket as Orlando. Seem to like to keep their towers short.
  2. Yeah, but we're talking about buildings that are only mid to upper 300'. That's not very tall no matter how you look at it. 300' will never look like 400' or 500' no matter what. But it will look nice. That's what matters. Just think "European" and it should help. It does me.
  3. No kidding. I would ride it in a heartbeat if they would just get it running. I hate driving around in a car all the time. It's either that or I need to look into investing in a donkey to ride into work. Donkey feed's gotta be cheaper than gas...

^ That's a good one! Thanks! I love this design. The height is lacking, ih, but who cares, Orlando's going to have tremendous density when all is said and done, and I would rather have density than height. Look at Honolulu!

It's not as if they're not getting any work done. It takes time to get a foundation laid for a building, driving piles and all of that.

^ This is good news. I don't care if it's not 400 feet just build it! It'll help!
  8. Bingo. It's the transient population. Don't know why it happens, I just know it does.

Yeah I am absolutely NOT holding my breath on the World Trade Center in Orlando. Especially 17 stories? Who cares even if it does get built. It won't be much.
  10. ^ I suggest that we install some mountains around the perimeter of the greater Orlando metro area. Not only will it cause the sun to get shielded a bit more but it should also curb urban sprawl quite a bit. And by the way, speck76, you will get NO argument from me that Orlando has the cream of the crop in crappy drivers. It is unparalleled.
  11. About the article - It was good, but I wish it mentioned Winter Park, the boat tours maybe. I always thought that's one of the neatest things here outside the attractions. I know it's not Orlando proper, but it is the other side of Orlando metro.
  12. No I wasn't married to the idea of everyone living 3 miles from work, nor was I trying to lay blame on anyone. Only throwing out ideas. See how long they last. And having been a pedestrian being hit by a car a while back (nothing serious, somehow), I still stand by what I said about the street crossings. Orlando's one of the worst. It is an absolute nightmare.
  13. I used to live right next to OIA and it was no picnic. Literally every 5 or 10 minutes. You just got used to it. There was a point where I wanted to get some Christmas lights and form the words "GO HOME" on our roof, but I didn't want to end up on the evening news...
  14. My 2 quid: Sprawl, though it is hard to define, is easy to recognize....usually in rush hour traffic. What everyone needs to aim for is try to live within 2 or 3 miles of work. That would really help a lot. Try to keep it central. That way the individual communities that make up the greater metro area will have more of an identity, something people will care more about and want to actually spend time in and around. Maybe we just need to build a sky net of pedestrian walkways to overcome the traffic crossings. Because speaking as a pedestrian, man, they're scary...
  15. Yes, welcome to the forum! I like your user ID! Glad to help out anytime! But it's not all roses down here, the dry season is kicking up some nasty pollen and making life miserable for some of us...
  16. This is nice and definately has that Maitland feel to it. I don't know how. Maybe it's the earth tones in all the other buildings there.
  17. I think we should stay away from the Vegas "look" entirely. We need to stand on our own two feet. When people come to Orlando, they need to see things that remind them that they're in Florida, not Nevada. Otherwise people will see Orlando is just a "wannabe" city, a mock Las Vegas, a second rate version of the real thing, when in reality Orlando is, and should be, completely different. For all the casinos and shows Vegas has (which are obviously a powerful draw), we have Disney World Resort. No other city in America can say that, (not even L.A.) and that is something to be proud of. To say nothing of Universal, Sea World, the nearby beaches, etc. I know we need to grow beyond Disney, (we REALLY need to do that) and that is what is going on with these new resorts being built. But they need to be distinctly Orlando-ish.
  18. ^ Man, that is cruel! She went for the lowest designation of "motel"!! Owch!! Good story!
  19. ^ I do agree it looks much, much better. But that's from a distance. It's the close-up that gets me, it's right there for everyone to see on I-4. The design of the building isn't bad at all, it's different. But I just wish that instead of looking habitable, it would actually be habitable.
  20. Thanks for the info! I can see why they did that. It helps to have a building under construction to get others to follow. It still bites that it's just sitting there.
  21. Does anyone know why exactly the "Majesty Building" is in perpetual post-nuclear holocaust mode? It looks nice from far away, but when you get closer it looks kinda scary. Like Tina Turner's gonna show up with her crazy dune buggy and chase you or something. I just wish they would hurry up and finish it.
  22. Yeah, and the Metropolitan is looking fantasically.....squat.... (just kidding!!)
  23. Yeah really...this belongs with the cluster of hotels just to the north of OIA on 436. Not next to the Convention Center.

Thanks for the info on drilling, though, and welcome to the forum! It's nice to know that this project is coming along after the long lull. It's going to look awesome, that cluster of buildings. Suntrust, Plaza and 55 West!
  25. I saw a report on Channel 6 last night that stated, to paraphrase, that construction will begin on the Blue Rose. There was some sort of get-together for all the people involved in the project. I don't know if I should take them literally though when they say construction is to begin. For some reason I thought this thing was in the planning phase. Is it really so far along? And does anyone have any more info on CityMark? I know they're demolishing the Delta Resort, but is that to make way for immediate construction, or just to clear the lot and sit unused for an undetermined space of time? Advance thanks for any info. I love these attractions projects!
