  1. Thank you. It frustrates me when these big opportunities turn into "Charlotte doesn't have good culture" talk. Our culture is fine...we're growing like crazy and tons of people from all over the country and the world move here. We can't be all bad. We win way more than our fair share of relocations, and that's with the politics in the background. I don't know what all goes into this decision and Amazon might be looking for their own unique things, but like you said, bringing this many good jobs to a region makes you a DRIVER of culture and policy. If I were Amazon, a young mobile workforce in a town that attracts talent from all over, isn't too expensive, is working on good public transportation, business friendly...these are all things I would look for. And other places have it too. We'll see what they decide but we have nothing to be ashamed of from a cultural perspective.
  2. What a win for whomever gets this HQ. I work Uptown and I love the idea of a huge non-Bank like this staking a claim to the northern part of Uptown. Anyway, no idea how serious of a contender we would be...near to think about. What's the timeline around a decision like this?
  3. Anyone know why they have an outline and stakes on the ground right next to the Bland Street lightrail station?
  4. Just one Charlottean opinion but I am in no hurry to see an MLB team in Charlotte. I go to Knights games several times a year, but never go to Panthers or Hornets games. It just feels so much more approachable than top tier pro sports. Maybe in ten years I'll feel different but the Knights are the perfect fit for Charlotte right now.
  5. Buildings being demo'ed on Hollis near South. Anyone know the plan for this? I think I remember hearing something about Townhomes but can't find a plan.
  6. Thanks 811. I think the Pulte opportunity did not include those shops: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/development/article22612095.html Thanks Prodev. Amazing. Not sure why no one can get any traction there.
  7. Hello Urban Planeters. I thought I'd check in and see if any of you "in the know" folks have heard anything about the Crosland property on the northeast side of Scaleybark and South. Almost a year ago I read about the owner (or Pulte) looking at townhomes there but nothing since. I live in Colonial Village and I've always been amazed at how little happens at that property. Seems like a homerun waiting to happen. Is there anything behind the scenes going on?
  8. Thanks guys. I live in Colonial Village and when I bought, that project was all but "a go". I was really excited at the idea of being able to walk to those things. Sooooo disappointed when it died. It would have been great for Colonial Village.
  9. Is there anything in the works for the northeast corner of Scaleybark and South Blvd? Where the library is? I remember a few years back that Crosland had this big plan for that whole area, and it fell apart with the bad economy. Does anyone know if there is ANYTHING being discussed for this area?
  10. FYI, I corresponded with the project manager for Circle, and he sent me the exact same rendering except he indicated that there would be 2,000 sf each of retail space on the "Renssalear" corners at South and at the Light Rail. These, coupled with the 4,000 sf already deplicted at South and Bland brings the total retail sf to 8,000. This was February 20th when he told me that. I remain disappointed that they are squandering an opportunity like this. The Light Rail is getting excellent ridership, and South Blvd is as busy as they come. They had a tremendous opportunity to augment the retail, bar and restaurant scene in Southend, and are absolutely blowing it.
  11. Add me to the underwhelmed list for 131 Main. Food is average, as is the atmosphere. Not sure what would work in that spot. Best thing to happen to that area would be for the Epicurean land to be developed. What's the latest there?
