I'll be there (well, not in the stadium, but elsewhere )...I'll bring back photos.

In Detroit waiting for the World Series to start?
  3. It just so happens that the Fisher Building is located directly across from my architecture studio. I'll take a photo on my way out the door if I make it out of here before it gets light out.
  4. The building has been closed only for a day or two at a time...definitely not a full week, because I've checked the thing for openings once per week or more. And it has been open on Woodward, because I have gained access from Woodward. One day back in May I took a short cut through the building...walked on on Woodward and walked out on Washington. That building has more holes than a block of swiss cheese. Unfortunately, scrappers are completely destroying it. Vandals have smashed quite a bit or marble, and spraypaint has shown up on the walls and on many of the windows. Obviously most or all of these things would've been replaced in a renovation, but it is sad to see that things that have remained untouched for decades are now getting destroyed for no reason.
  5. Ummmm, Zissou, the Whitney has never closed from the first time I went many months ago. The only difference is that now there are a bunch of people living there and the whole building smells like piss.

Boston-Edison, Corktown, Sherwood Forest, University District, West Village, Woodbridge, Arden Park, & Palmer Woods are my recommendations. I'd be happy to show you around. Otherwise just use the convenient Cityscape Detroit map for finding their locations.... http://cityscapedetroit.org/Detroit_neighborhoods.html
  7. The sunset last night was absolutely stunning...I wish I'd had my camera handy. It was refreshing to wake up and see the sun rising over downtown on my way to school.
  8. It's close enough...they've been putting the lights on the trees on W. Grand Blvd. for about a week now. Progress is slow, but it's happening.

They're definitely doing more than a facade improvement to that place. Nobody seems to be able to tell me exactly what's going on though.

That basketball movie that was filmed in the MCS months ago finally came out. My friend went to see the movie, Crossover, the other day. It ended up being an incredible waste of time. His advice: wait until you can rent it so that you can skip through everything that isn't the MCS.

The Hecker House was designed by Louis Kamper.
  13. The Jeffersonian is directly across the street from the Kean.
  14. Maybe the city is trying to keep out the pigeons?
  15. The winds were howling yesterday though...much more so than normal. And I've done the smokestack thing already...Packard and MCS.
  16. No, that's only 18. LOL. Btw, 20 counts the two mechanical floors.
  17. Dumb isn't even a good word to describe what I just did. Think standing on the very edge of the parapet wall of a 20 story skyscraper in high winds to get your photo taken....

I see work has started on the Lafer Building. Today they were finishing up the fire escape removal.

All that stuff is public record. I'm pretty sure that it's against the law for them to charge you $2.00 to go see the stuff at City Hall. They really don't want you to obtain those records...after all, that does require them to do real, actual work, but if you go downtown to city hall and don't mind waiting a while and putting up with a few pretty rude people, you can get all the tax info.

Bah! It looks like the city's online property tax database will become unusable on September 1st unless you are a property owner in the city. Data retrievals are free until September 1st, 2006, after that date users will be charged a $2.00 convenience fee, payable on a credit card, to retrieve property information. Note: Detroit Taxpayers will still be able to view their own parcel information for free. Ummm, ok. So you're going to make me go all the way to the city county building everytime I want some info? What a load of crap that is....

DY is beyond out of contol. There's a reason why most of the insiders and longtime posters aren't around anymore....

I have no idea. I had nothing to do with it. Apparently he broke one of the forum rules.
  24. Yeah, Zissou has it right. Glass elevators are different than conventional elevator shafts with windows plopped into them. It has to do with fire codes. Dtown, I don't have a photo of the elevator shafts off hand. In fact, I might not have one at all...it's been a long time since I've been in that building.
  25. LOL, good luck with that one! Detroit codes prohibit windows in elevators. That's why the windows in the Detroit Life Building elevators will be bricked in during the renovation.
