I noticed utility markings along Jo Johnston yesterday on the way home and wondered what was up.. hopefully once this gets started it'll move along pretty quickly

Yep. It's like a warehouse. Then you hear a voice, far away, saying "over here" and you scan the emptiness until you see a small desk with someone beckoning you to come hither.
I dread going in the place and feel cold and lonely the second I walk in the door!

I don't know, I think that the BMI building is much, much worse. The ASCAP building is just bland.
The worst thing about the BMI building is having to enter into the front maw, er, um, door. They can fill it up with harvest tables and wooden rockers all they want and it's still a big, imposing, concrete space ready to swallow you whole.

Crane being assembled now for Gulch Crossing building.
I totally forgot about this yesterday ... took me a half hour to get through the Gulch on the way home. I won't make that mistake again!

It could be that we are used to it - But CenterHill is right, too, the "Nashville Tradewinds", as we call them, do blow to the East, so that could account for it too..

We're not big baseball fans, either, but I can see us going to some games, too.. I've been to one Sounds game at Greer (years ago) and had a terrible time. Maybe I'll actually go enough to figure out the rules of the game. Once I figured out how to count downs, I began to like football. Maybe this will be the same!

We live on Ireland Street, behind US Tobacco, and have never noticed any bad smells, so I wouldn't be too concerned about impending nausea

Maybe they could get this artist, Victor Enrich, to redesign the old convention center

CAT Financial originally built their headquarters on West End, but later sold it and now leases it back from the current owner. I think Willis Corroon did a similar thing with their HQ in Century City.
I don't know much (anything?) about how large corporations make these decisions, but I would imagine that they all do things for a variety of reasons, so if HCA isn't interested in building their own buildings, then surely there's some reason for it that they're not discussing with the public?

The Porter Paints building is coming down on Charlotte & 11th... and the Franklin Industries (at 10th Ave N and Jo Johnston) site is very nearly cleared and leveled. I keep thinking there will be a big announcement any day now about all that property

I was glad to hear this this morning, especially since CKNA is one of our bigger customers. I could get used to these 1000 job announcements every week or two from the Governor.
CKNA is one of our larger customers, too.. so we were very glad to hear the news..

Is this supposed to be the final design? I kind of assumed it was more of a conceptual rendering and that we'd see something more firm later on..
David
The rendering seems to show that the pavillion isn't at the center of the site at all, it is at the southernmost end closer to the KVB bridge, where the land is widest and there is a natural slope already. The land closer to the Shelby pedestrian bridge is much more narrow. That is why the smaller "lawn" area is there. I assumed that this smaller area north of the amphitheater is the location of the proposed soccer park. I am also assuming that the current steep-sloped lawn that goes down to the riverfront stage between Broadway and Church will go away and that space will be reconfigured and reprogrammed with the promenade, flood wall, and connection to the greenway. That slope is pretty steep, whereas the grade going from KVB down to where this stage site is a gentler one.
Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago's Millennium Park is indeed flatter, but then again it is in Chicago, where the only hills are manmade anyway.

Demo has begun at this property (Rosa Parks property across from the Farmers market)... may be down in the next day or so.. Also, demo continuing at the old Franklin Industries site.. looks like maybe they're clearing out the mountains of concrete rubble and maybe the the old foundation/parking garage..
So much for my estimate of how long it takes to knock down a dilapidated strip center.. they've now got the whole thing down and are cleaning up the remains.. Can't say we're too excited about the multi-story project going in there since it'll ruin our view of the market and Bicentennial Mall.. but on the other hand, property values!

They fenced in this property over the weekend, looks like work will be starting soon

No webcam...but here's a quick snapshot out the window:It looks like one building is indeed down near Nashville Glass. Is that the Miller dist. you were talking about?
That's it alright.. I only knew that was that name of it because of a small sign on the now-gone building.. in fact, Miller Dist building was still standing when I drove by this morning at about 7:30, so they made pretty short work of it..
You can see the big red dump trucks on the site of the Korean market.. also, I had noticed the other day at the corner of Charlotte and the interstate there was digging going on..
-
I can see them from my office; and they are still standing. Perhaps the rain delayed the demo?
Could be ... a part of the Miller Distr building that you can't see well from 11th is down and they were on site this morning with the heavy equipment.. Nashville Glass building is still standing but I'm guessing it's just a matter of time..
There were also 2-3 big dump trucks and another big shovel at the site where the Korean market was.. it looked this morning like they were basically cleaning up the pile of concrete..
Maybe you could put up a web cam!
-
Nashville Glass / Miller Distributing buildings are coming down today at 11th N and Nelson Merry.. also, they have some heavy equipment grinding up the piles of rock and concrete on the newly empty lots around there..

Haha!!! Maybe we can get Giorgio Armani himself to stand on the street corner 24/7 to wave at pedestrians!
I think I saw Giorgio Armani taking a leak in a parking lot around there the other morning on the way to work

Noticed yesterday that the oriental market/Korean restaurant at 11th and Charlotte is coming down.. not much more to go in the way of demo around there!

IMO the biggest downsides to living in the North Capital/Germantown/Hope Gardens area are the sickening smells produced by the snuff factory and wastewater treatment plant.
That's funny, I live right behind the tobacco plant and never notice it.. although I have heard others mention it before.. Maybe there's a problem with my smeller?
Of course, as long as US Tobacco stays right where it is (thus preventing high rise development right in front of us!), I guess I could put up with just about any smells they wanted to spew out!

Another 220 apartments going up on Parks in the NoCap area... http://www.tennessean.com/article/20121214/BUSINESS/312140128/Luxury-apartments-planned-near-Nashville-Farmers-Market
As I was pulling out of the drive this morning, I noticed surveying going on at this site.. they were on the high ground above the strip center on 9th Ave at Locklayer..

Maybe we'll see something along the lines of Equus 333. That looks pretty swell.. kind of the old WES design, but freshened up

Subway sucks and there are too many of them.
For a fast food sub place, I'd like to see a Firehouse Subs somewhere near downtown.
They are indeed everywhere! In fact, there's one going in at Velocity... I'm with you on the Firehouse Subs.. mm mm good

That would be great news! Yes, I do recall that site flooding extensively during the 2010 flood. I imagine that Hope Gardens will see an increase in interest in the coming especially once whatever Boyle is planning gets built.
Was it ever flooded?!? You should have seen the van and car that floated through the plate glass windows that morning!
This is great news.. we've been wondering for a long time what was going to happen there.. I'd love to see some retail or dining options - on the other hand, who wants to shop and eat in a flood plain?

It's been 20+ years since I worked on Music Row, but I seem to remember that house used to be pretty rundown before somebody put a lot of money into restoring it and turning it into a real beauty. Wasn't there a law firm there at one time? I always assumed they owned it and restored it.. had no idea it was a family's historic property.
