I propose that the city include money for a Walmart blocking forcefield in their next budget. We could put it up around Ghent, Fort Norfolk, Downtown, and any and all Historic districts. If that doesn't work I heard there's this new Walmart repellant that comes in aerosal form that we could spray over the entire metro by plane. Ahh... One can dream can't he?

Oh please please propose a forcefield. I too dislike Wally World. I understand their need in rurual areas but not in Ghent, please. Now I sound like I am begging....hahha

It will be exciting to finally have people moving into these buildings.

And I think once the people move in the retail will catch up.

I am wishing for a Whole Foods/Wild Oats in the area, at least in Ghent. Some new restaurants too. It is all pretty exciting though.

Yes, thanks. The market is a nice start but with all of the residential units planned ONE market isn't going to cut it. IMO the retail component needs to catch up.

Still have not heard back from the city about retail DT. I guess we will just have to wait. I would surely think some of the upper end retail will be going into the bottom floors of new construction that is coming online. With Norfolk's vision for DT I have to think there is a plan in place for this.

I think I remember reading about an upsacle grocery store going in at the bottom of one of the condo towers? Is this true?
