  1. From today's Sentinel: Hilton is on a Roll Little more than a month after Hilton Hotels broke ground on its Waldorf-Astoria resort complex in Bonnet Creek, the company plans to begin a second major project adjacent to the Orange County Convention Center. The 1.400-room hotel will get underway May 17 and is expected to open in 2009. Rida Development Co. is developing the project in conjunction with Hilton and Apollo Real Estate Advisors. The project was announced last year with a cost of $350 million. It will contain 130,000 square feet of meeting space on a 26.4-acre site south of the convention center. A pedestrian bridge will connect the massive, 18-story hotel to the center's north concourse.

    The VUE

I could be mistaken, but it looks like some more windows may be finally going in. For a while, it was hard to see any progress on the outside. Is this project very far behind schedule?

There is now a boom crane on the site, so they might be drilling for the pilings soon.
  8. From 11/7/05 Orlando Business Journal More mixed-use headed downtown Get ready for more construction cranes downtown -- and more mixed-use development. Highwoods Properties plans to build a 175,000-square-foot office tower as part of its planned Capital Plaza III at the southeast corner of Rosalind Avenue and Pine Street, according to the latest report from Orlando's Downtown Development Board. The proposed $100 million mixed-use development also would include 120 residential condos, a 130-room hotel and 12,000-15,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. In addition, Highwoods plans to build a parking garage next to three mixed-use buildings. The report doesn't include a start or completion date for that project. Highwoods execs aren't talking, though. "We're still in the planning process," says Mike Beale, senior vice president of Highwoods in Orlando. "And we have made no formal submissions to the city."
