  1. Thats awesome work there guys. I think we're all in agreement, VASCIC is a classic. MERCUEX, thanks for the pics. Victory Arch & the old Warwick are jewels that need to be preserved at all costs.
  2. I know this isn't exactly the 30ish floor high rise that gets all the excitement. In any case, I think it's one coolest buildings in the area. B) I'm talking about the VASCIC building in downtown NN. It really does look like the conning tower of a submarine cruising on the surface. Kinda neat..methinks! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Photo of the VASCIC building -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now compare that to the conning tower of the U.S.S. Virginia
  3. I'm at a loss. Please remind me of the percentage of college basketball players who stay for their full four year scholarship. National exposure that leads to "phat" NBA contracts. The opportunity for a free education valued at up to 100 grand? I don't know..Indentured servitude, sign me-up.
  4. Indentured servitude? Please elaborate and expand on that comment.
  5. Last I saw (and this was some weeks ago) contract negotiations between NBA and union were going nowhere. From what I've heard and read there are several critical issues that are not going to be resolved. I Hope I'm wrong, but my "Spidey" senses tell me otherwise. Check out: NBA contract talks
  6. I wouldn't sweat it. AFL? Big deal. As for the NHL, well just remember what kind of season they had. Oops..thats right, they didn't have a season! NBA, watch for the impending lockout before the start of their next season.
  7. Great idea! One could lead to the other.
  8. The irony is not lost on me. However, Charlotte already has 2 pro teams (NFL, NBA) and wouldn't be able to support a 3rd for some time.
  9. Thats a good call John. Lets keep our eyes open. My guess is that if it happens, it will happen after next season. Also, I don't think the Marlins would leave the East coast. Locally, yes..yes I believe there is a "quite" movement afoot to lure a team to Norfolk. It's going to take all of us, with our collective eyes & ears open, to find out. So lets start digging!
  10. Can't help it. This is just a beautiful ship! Check out their official site at Va. Schooner
  11. Rus, lets keep our collective eyes on the Florida Marlins, Oakland A's, K.C. Royals & Minnesota Twins. All of these teams are seeking funding for new stadiums. Where they are having problems is in convincing their respective state legislatures to ante-up their (team's) desired amount. Each franchise has different issues both financial & political. My guess is that they will use the threat of relocation as leverage to obtain said funds. Remember, MLB does not particularly like private financing. So if the state doesn't want to "Play Ball" they'll take their toys elsewhere. Odds of relocation? For any of the mentioned teams I personally say 1 in 4 at best (just a layman's bet). Keep an eye toward the Marlins, they seem to be the most likely candidate at the moment. Also, don't expect any major attempt to relocate until MLB finds an ownership group for the Nats. MLB likes to deal with one problem at a time. Anyhow, thats just my take. What do you folks think, Norfolk have a chance?
  12. Go Virginia! What is it that Norfolk has that most cities can only dream of? How about a Touch of Class! B) From the Virginian Pilot. Floating ambassador gathers its gusts The sleek 122-foot Virginia is a replica of a schooner that began service in 1917 and was cutting-edge for its time. CHRIS TYREE/THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT. By PAUL CLANCY, The Virginian-Pilot
  13. NBC board was the site run by the Norfolk Baseball Company. Remember, the folks that did a damn good job trying to bring the Expos to Norfolk. By the way, Vdogg I can't say enough about your H.R. Projects thread. Obviously a lot of hard work goes into it and man..it shows.
  14. No doubt. I've learned more from this site and It's members than I have from "The Pilot" & Daily Press combined.
  15. Hello folks, I'm new to this board and I just want to take a moment to say what a wonderful job all of you do in keeping it informative. I think I recognize a few of you from the old NBC board but I might be mistaken. Anyhow, I thought I'd post this render I pulled from the NBC board just before it went down. It's great, It's what should have been and maybe..what will be. Great to be onboard, Merrittk92
