  1. Guess I've walked by it but just far enough away that I have never seen it! I'll have to check it out next time.
  2. Love your pix....I think it's funny we have almost the same image of the flags on the brick rowhouses! I've always thought downtown Norfolk's Freemason residential area was beautiful. Also, where is the fountain in your images?
  3. Feel free to grab the pix for use in other threads. BTW, where do I post Va. Beach pix? I have a couple of Town Center.
  4. I kinda hope they keep the Texaco Building and turn it into lofts or something. I don't know why but I do like the facade - the Texaco stars in particular! It has a sort of nice look to it - maybe it's the brick...or maybe it was the heat and humidity today!! But I likey the building.
  5. BTW, the 2 guys in my photo stood at that light/intersection for at least 15 minutes looking at the construction site....ok guys, fess up...were they anyone from this board!!! Or maybe...??
  6. Last but not least for today....the recently sold Texaco Building on "the other side of Brambleton." I drove by and notice several of the units on the 2nd and third floors on the left appear to be storage while a couple on the right side look like someone is living there. Maybe I missed it but what is being planned for the building. Hopefully it will kick start something in that area....and what's up with the bus terminal....is it going bye bye or are we stuck with it! More pix later...
  7. Several random shots of downtown residential around Freemason and the Pagoda....it was really pretty out today but HOT!
  8. Trader....these guys were busy!
  9. more over in Ghent...love how you can see The Pink Lady in the background!
  10. Over around Granby and Monticello and 14th - 17th is a HUGE development going on. I'm a little confused about the name. Several posters here have called it The Bristol at Ghent but all the signage up at the site says The Row at Ghent. Here are a couple images from all sides!
  11. The "backside" of the St. Paul Lofts - as seen from Freemason.
  12. Next door, sort of, to HH is 388 Boush Street - lofts. Here are two views. These guys were working through lunch!
  13. Harbor Heights around lunch time today. No workers around at all! Not much to see right now.
  14. Call me a slacker...It's been a busy couple of days for me. I will be in DT tomorrow and will get lots of pix for all here. Hope the weather cooperates. I'll be over in Ghent too....so I'll look around and see what's up with some of the stuff going on over there as well.
  15. I noticed the message too late. I went downtown and took a couple quick images from the car. I'll post later. I also happened by VB Towne Center and took a new pic from the Ruby Tuesday's parking lot across VB Blvd. I will try to post them later. I'll get some of Harbor Heights in a couple days.
  16. Haha! Maybe I'll take a drive around downtown later this morning....
  17. I have to agree with the lack of recognition this area has received. Before I moved here a couple years ago, I had visited once or twice about 15 years ago. I remember thinking how empty and abandoned downtown Norfolk looked. Friends took me to Waterside and were comparing it to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. I kept thinking "is this all there is?" I remember the highlight of the trip was going to Lynnhaven Mall!! So when I had an opportunity to move here for work, I wasn't exactly excited about it. I flew in to visit and was really surprised at all the positive changes - and more surprised by the fact that it seemed nobody outside the area knew about them!! So many cool things are happening around this area it's exciting. I love how downtown Norfolk is growing. Ghent is getting better and better all the time. And finally, Portsmouth is picking up the pace. VB's Town Center is nice and will be growing for years to come. All this said, Mike D, jump in the car or fly on in and rediscover the area. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. B)
  18. Another photo with an example of renovation. About 3 years ago I road by an address in downtown Norfolk to look at a possible apartment. The building was rundown and the people hanging around the entrance left a little to be desired...we didn't stop, drove on to the next address - across Brambleton in Ghent. The other day while passing through Ghent I noticed the building across the Mowbray Arch and the big improvement. Not sure who, but a developer renovated the building, located on York near the entrance to NOAA and behind the YMCA, and I believe it is now condos. I drove by the entrance and it's very nice looking. Here's an image from Ghent. Didn't get a closer one at the time, ran out of memory on the digital card! Hopefully, some of the older structures in DT will get the same respect and treatment this one did. Especially the ones just over Brambleton! B)
  19. Thanks for the info. I took the photo of the construction last weekend - so it's pretty recent. Looks like they have a ways to go before the highrise portion will start going up though. I believe there is still a restaurant/small grill on the property-that looked like it was open Mon-Friday? I think we'll see lots of development in the immediate area too.
  20. It's going to be growing....a skyline shot of downtown Norfolk from Crawford Pkwy in P-town.
  21. Can someone help me with this? I believe I've seen something about this building on this website but can't find it now. This is a photo of a new residential building going up near the corner of Colley Ave and Woodis Ave or Front Street - just down the street from the PETA building and across the street from WVEC. Anybody know any info?
  22. That building has a florist in it along with a couple offices, I believe. It used to have a sub/sandwich shop too...don't think it still does. It sits at a traffic light and I've noticed it everytime I hit the red light. Very unusual for the neighborhood.
  23. That really is a great photo. The cruise ship just dwarfs everything! I almost didn't even notice the Wisconsin right there next to it.
  24. This is the side view from the rehab-ed building at 436 Granby housing the Mozart Lofts Apartments. Cool advertising graphics from "back in the day" when downtown Nofolk was The Place to be....like it is becoming now!
  25. Here is where the construction was last weekend at St. Paul's Place. One building is hidden from view. This is just a block from MacArthur Place and Scope. There will be the new residential community across the street where the "under demolition" Downtown Plaza still stands - I think that's the name of the place behind McDonald's! B)
