  1. post-4265-003794700 1286217721_thumb.jpg

New Best Buy store being built in NE Columbia in Sparkleberry Square, about 1/2 mile from Sandhills.

Other store on Two Notch will also still be there....

Good to see a big retailer opening these days, especially in this area where it's been pretty stagnant lately.

  2. The article listed on The State has a very important statement that is completely false.

Best Buy will OPEN a new location in March in the Village at Sandhill, but will not close the store near Columbia Place. The Columbia Place store has been under renovation for several months and has just been completed. It is also one of the highest volume stores of the area. Management at Best Buy will retract that statement and make a correction in the next few days.

As far as Columbia Place is concerned; there are a few changes taking place in the mall. At this point nothing too major, but enough to shake up the mix and give some fresh paint in areas. Foxmoor/Rainbow is moving downstairs near Sears in the old Sam Goody space. Sissy's furniture is moving to the old Briar Patch space and more annoucements on new stores will come soon. I love articles like this because it allows a person to take a look at an area, but it also ads a stigma to an area.

While anyone with eyes can see that the Columbia Place area is not the same as it was just 10 years ago, its also noted that there are numerous opportunities for redevelopment especially with the money pumped into Columbia Place as the areas main anchor and the investment in area schools.

I wondered where they got that info on Best Buy....good callout

  3. I really hope that they don't close down the best buy farther down two notch, but I think they will because then they will have one in the "trendy" northeast suburbs, Harbison, and the up and coming Lexington. I think that our area can support more of the businesses mentioned in the article.

Just so you know, the next Best Buy in northeast Columbia will be an ADDITIONAL location, not a replacement for any current stores!!! :shades:

  4. Welcome to UP, Irmoscdad! I think you will discover some enlightening and informative debate here, as I have.

Lexington (the part that follows the traditional grid of tree-lined streets) is a neat town indeed. I feel that their sprawl, however, is not a good thing in many ways IMO. It has become now an area to AVOID for folks like me who don

  5. Two more big-box retailers are joining Target at the new Lexington Pavilion. Columbia-based private real estate firm Edens & Avant announced late Tuesday that Best Buy and PetSmart will open stores at the retail center being constructed at 5119 Sunset Blvd. in Lexington. I actually work on Sunset Blvd and this project is coming along quickly.... Lexington has really grown!!!!!! There throwing up things left and right out there

It's amazing how much is happening in Lexington!!! It's like everywhere you go there is GROWTH. Target, Best Buy, and Petsmart will make a pretty strong area....sounds like there will be other major retailers there as well! And I think on the Edens & Avant site it shows this will be a pretty big area!!!

    VERY COOL!
