Owners of Johnson Mill have begun engaging the NoDa community. Should have. An apartment building announced soon, tucked into the outparcels facing 36th station with street level retail. Not sure about the rest have a call next week.

Does that mean I'm addition to the mill itself?

Has anyone been to Pinky’s lately?  I think I read elsewhere here that they closed briefly around the holidays, but hadn’t been since then. Same menu (thankfully), but it’s really gentrified inside now.  Two-tone and curated.  All the found objects, flea market finds and NASCAR hood are gone.   Painted bar, stained wainscoting, and trendy light fixtures are the thing now.  We asked our server how people liked it and he said it’s about half and half.  The soul is gone but food and service still great.  Just sad to see it lose the authenticity.   The crowd was different too.  Used to be a wiiiide mix.  But tonight not a tattoo or trucker cap in the place.  Very SouthEnd feeling.  I don’t know if that’s the new norm, but it felt a little alien to all at our table.

    Did the ownership change?

I thought it was financial too but staff explained it was bc it was found through surveys that ppl though it promoted a “bro” environment and a woman was assaulted by a drunk employee at a location. They aren’t getting rid of taps at the location, but switching the taps from beer to a variety of cold brew coffee, Kampuchea , and nitro tea.

Awesome, anyone interested put a comment here by Thursday and I’ll get some sort of group chat together where we can coordinate a time

    Wait...what??

I wasn't aware that alcohol there was a thing. These kids today.... Sometimes it's OK to be old fashioned and not let people get all schwasty at work.

  4. It's weird up there. There really is a lot of land available, but it's just....weird. I stated how much I love the look of those Verde apartments  (I hope they can replicate them in another part of town), but they face a Shomars and a plasma donation center. Some other new apartments down the street have a nice view of a Waffle House. Not necessarily suburban, but not necessarily desirable. It's not sexy up there, and that's something I don't see changing.

It would take decades, but I could definitely see that area being more developed than Southend if they start jamming stuff in and being smart with the space. Some of the new developments have way too much parking. If you factor in all the worthless buildings that no one would miss (Famous Mart) there's nothing but room for growth. I'm interested in seeing what happens.

Tried Goodyear today - I think the 485 review is pretty spot-on, though I think I had a better time with food. Service seemed much slower than it should have ("sorry! kitchen is backed up!"), and the menu is... odd. I think everyone at the table was like, is this the full menu? Are you hiding another menu?

That said, I think this place will rocket once they work out the kinks. The design is phenomenal. I will definitely go back this spring on a nice evening.

I looked at that menu online and it doesn't seem very appealing. It does seem odd and lacking. Nothing I see makes me want to go try it immediately.

Looks like only the weird corner spaces will eventually be left after Phase 1 and 2? There's a lot of "park" space, or just green space, which doesn't make me feel super excited. This should be as urban as South End, and instead it looks like what is already overpopulating UC.

    Intrigued to see more.

The "fake lake" really isn't that big and it's much more of a chill and stroll area than hustle and bustle. The latter needs to be crammed along the desolate main streets to start. What's proposed here will probably fill the space out nicely as long as they don't leave all the parking lots in the future.

I'm assuming you weren't referring to the parking lots when you said park space...

Mine are clearly higher than yours.

He seemed drunk to me, but I know that passes as ok for most.

Do we have to talk to each other like this over the owner of one of our sportsball teams?  For any reason, really, but it's just some guy none of us really know doing stuff with our few-months-a-year sports.
