  1. after watching some of the helicopter footage, it doesn't look like a structural issue. it looks like the car ran into the outside wall at high speed, causing the double tee structure to collapse.
  2. here are some pictures from 2 days ago. the large blank portion of the southern facades encloses the movie theatre. round scaffolding for large digital display. per previous post: flat display sitting awkwardly on a curved facade.
  3. Related to the previous conversation about the perception of Charlotte during Panther broadcasts, here are some stills from the game on Sunday. The city blocks of red clay hold almost as prominent a place as the parking lots these days.
  4. It got pretty interesting last night when those storms rolled through. The wind kicked up so much dirt and mud from the patchwork of construction sites, that I could barely see the skyline from SouthEnd... 4 minutes of rain was preceded by pea size hail. It did a pretty good job of knocking the temperature down from 100 degrees.
  5. Ashton South End. Info can be found in the SouthEnd Projects thread. http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.ph...st&p=806064

  8. 07-01-2007 looks like major structural work is wrapping up on the epicenter portion, a good bit of the shoring has come down.
  9. looks like the site is ready for groundbreaking. 07-01-2007
  10. ^That is temporary shoring for the next layer of floor formwork. You will see that being built following the casting of the remaining columns. Probably very similar to this > http://www.advancecos.com/6m.htm

  12. For anyone who hasn't been by the site recently, there are markers painted on the sidewalk all the way around the site denoting what appear to be future column lines.
  13. ^ here is a graphical representation of that. the dark squares are column locations, the lightest blue are girders, the darker blue are beams, and slab layer covers all of them. the green arrows demonstrate how a load placed at the location of the green circle is ideally transferred through the system and to the ground.
  14. I just found this nifty cam that not only provides a pretty nice angle, but also gives you air quality information too. http://maps.co.mecklenburg.nc.us/website/a...bilityentry.htm
  15. Nice. It looks like they skybridge is now the width of Founder's Hall. It will be interesting to see what that space actually is.
  16. Great photos. I am glad to see construction near the SAC is wrapping up. Brings back memories for sure. Heh, I remember building the center rotunda part of that model last summer. From the standpoint of solar penetration, that entire building perfromed horribly when tested. Of course, given the amount of glass and 14 foot tall windows, that should be pretty obvious. As it turns out very few changes we recommended at that time recieved any consideration. The faux classical architecture and a stretched budget got in the way of fixing the design.... http://www.p2pays.org/ref/07/06568/2001/nf...e=UNV-UNCC1.htm Although it doesn't specifically say it there, I remember UNC Charlotte's policy on LEED certification being that they would try to build to silver standards but not pay the money to get it commissioned, thereby eliminating certification.
