Couldn't agree more... and to add (restaurant professionals feel free to educate me) but will two high end french themed restaurants really do well? I'm always surprised that Margaux at the JW is still French inspired, but hey, maybe they knock it out of the park.

Add Mertens to that category too

    Found this one:

" We are excited to announce a new eight-level ramp with nearly 1,000 parking spaces will be built on the same site and will open in the summer of 2024. The capacity of the current ramp is 495 spaces."

Glad to see this finally get the green light. My daughter worked on the design, and they were having a helluva time designing it around the power generator.

I’m hoping it’s what it’s intended to be. A slowdown to tame inflation. Technically a recession (which is fine, they typically happen every 7 years, it’s been 13). Slowing the economy a bit (rabid spending) and giving the supply chain a chance to catch up wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Hopefully it’s shallow, and only lasts 4-6 months.

I agree with you. But unfortunately, in regards to most commodities, the supply chain issues will take years to get corrected.

I agree that block really needs to go, there's just so much wasted space.  The buildings are obselete and the county/city building is particularly confusing.  The government center ramp has a super low clearance, is crumbling and has very poor handicap access with no elevators.  City hall and county building were built for the 1960s city and county populations and services.  Now staff is spread out all over.  It would be great if they would consolidate everything into one large building.  Make a larger city hall in North Monroe or something.  Move all the county services to the Fuller property.

Good God, every time someone mentions that the preservationists lose their minds over losing the Calder painting on top of the county building that no one can see.

Your rumor is apparently true,  WOODTV has updated the story and changed the headline to indicate Visser is in the process of buying it:

this is really the same link - just updated

It's not important but it bugs me though that this story and others say that the building was originally called Stadium Arena.  It was originally called Grand Rapids Stadium.  It was renamed Stadium Arena by the promoter Phil Simon many years later when he took it over after a foreclosure or bankruptcy (can't remember which.)  Stadium Arena is a stupid redundant name.  This is the type of trivial thing that drives you crazy when you are an old man.

I remember going shopping there with my mom when it was Atlantic Mills.

So they are definitely following this plan, but without any buildings or park, just parking.

Not sure how I feel about that to be honest. Not doubting they will build the amphitheater, but I don’t think we will see anything as bold as the Progressive “courtesy rendering” any time soon. I would certainly love to be proven wrong though…

When have we ever seen anything move quickly in this town? For good or bad, the city leaders have always been a deliberate and cautious bunch of folks.

It's not gambling related.  The tribes wouldn't want to pull traffic from their existing properties in the area.

Whatever the use may be, it sounds like they will run it like the McKay Tower, which they also own.

When they bought it a few years ago, they said that they were trying to diversify their holdings and investments away from just gambling.

Not sure what the final product will be for the BOB, but it will probably be used as a similar investment.

Two things from this evening (too dim and rainy to get photos):

*The NW corner of Lafayette and Cherry, across from St. Mary's. It looks like that little 1960 or 70s era building,  of about 1 -1/2 stories, has gone to the wrecking ball. I'm not sure it belonged to the hospital. I can only assume that it did, so I'm not holding out hope for anything other than more surface lots.

    * The GRCC Ford Fieldhouse looks like it is getting some major work done, at least on the exterior. I cant find any obvious answers for what are the plans there .

For the GRCC fieldhouse, they have put a lot of money into renovating the interior. My daughter plays basketball for them and she said that everything is new with the court, etc.

a little birdie told me today that the little building between the old Kales Corner and the new development on Bridge is going to be developed into a reincarnation of Red Hot In

A diner would be a good addition to that stretch of road. It adds some more variety.
