  1. This is one instance where I side with the residents and home owners. If I bought my retirement home next to a golf course, then it for corporate greed i’d feel the same way. Obviously some mega builder would want to use that land for something to make profit on.

Im all for building new housing developments but taking away a luxury that people paid for seems wrong. Give them the course back.

  2. Norfolk International Airport shares most popular routes in 2023

Here are our top routes for 2023 according to this article

    • Orlando International Airport (MCO) – about 308 passengers each day

    • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport – about 228 passengers each day

    • Tampa International Airport – about 178 passengers each day

    • DFW Airport – about 168 passengers each day

    • San Diego International Airport – about 167 passengers each day

It also mentions that the Airport Authority is anticipating that we may run out of parking during the summer months as the airport will have a record number of seats available.  link

I am not an expert but would not be surprised if that's mostly because the rental car facility and new check-in/facade are more complicated projects and need time for design/review. The TSA consolidation might be tied to the check-in area so passengers only have to deal with such customer facing construction for a certain amount of time. I don't think we're at the worrying stage (yet)

I agree. I think there’s a million moving parts with that part of the project. There’s going to be multiple projects within that single one. I’m just happy to see a dedicated website now.

I like going to philly too. Friday/Monday ain't the best split for me, but I could always fly there on friday and take amtrak back on sunday.

You’ll probably see AA compete on this route now

Is that meaningfully different than what has been the case so far? I know a lot of the fleet from here has been the Embraer but I took one of the A220's from Norfolk to Los Angeles last summer

EDIT: Of course the idea of even more new routes is AWESOME

Yes, mainly expect new routes that weren’t offered before because the A220 was based at another airport. This is a great start at longer international flights out of ORF since the crew can now be used for longer periods of time.

Does that mean that ORF will be hosting a number of A220s, and if so what does that entail? Would ORF be the normal start/end points of a travel day, or is it more just where aircraft storage and maintenance would be consolidated?

It means that ORF will operate A220’s as well as the ERJ (until they retire them.) We are going to be more like the other bases now like TPA and CHS. Expect new routes in the coming months too. I’m definitely betting on the Provo route.

Would love if that were the case, but realistically how soon could something like that open? I don't think I've seen a project as big as that get completed in less than like a year and a half (except for the new ODU stadium, and they paid a premium to ensure it got complete in an offseason)

I agree, I bet on about a 2 year construction at minimum. It would be interesting to see if the Airport plans on using the current customs facility for anything in the mean time.

Great news! And that's an incredibly fast rate to get construction going for the project. A lot of positive momentum for the airport nowadays

My guess is we have a few Airlines wanting to start international service but we just don’t exactly meet the expectations for it yet. Probably fast tracked because we know that the business is there.

Breeze could even have a stake in it, we’re definitely in range for some international destinations with the A220. Even the E-Jets can get to Canada easily.

Speaking of People Movers, are we getting the longest one in the world again like we had before? It’s nice to hold records.

No, we are getting 4 Movers instead of 2. Sure being the longest in the world is cool, but it’s very expensive to maintain.

One of their members is, well, hanging on mentally by a thread. Or seemingly so. If I were them I would call in a wellness check on that dude.

HAHA I think this same thing every time I read his posts…. It’s an airport buddy it’s not that deep.

Exactly. I don’t think ORF has ever offered a flight outside the 50 states. Hell, I don’t even think we’ve offered Alaska or Hawaii so I love this. I’m sure it won’t be the last flight announcement we see this year.

Norfolk - Hawaii would be longer than a lot of international routes. That would be something to see.

  12. I was just at the Airport and saw that the new RON apron has opened at the end of what used to be a parking lot. Breeze has 3 ERJ 190’s parked at the moment. As breeze converts its other hubs to strictly A220 bases, the ERJ’s are being transferred here.
