You made a sweeping statement about those in the country music industry not being sophisticated.  I’m in the country music industry.  So I guess I’m just an unsophisticated redneck to you, huh?  I’ve worked in the industry for decades now…and like any industry, there are people who are highly sophisticated and those who are not.  For you to make a sweeping statement like that and try to back it up with “Luke Combs” or just name-dropping some people you’ve heard of that you believe are unsophisticated doesn’t really make your point any less wrong.  I’m actually disappointed you doubled down.

Wait! Don't you know? No name calling or insults are allowed here.

Sore subject, no doubt, for Nashvillians.  I mean, you guys have Stix and the Elvis statues.  I just don't get it... you have perhaps the most renown American sculptor living there and yet, you have nearly zilch in decent sculpture. One of your native sons Red Grooms couldn't even get a longterm position of prominence.  One of the most attractive (Battle of Nashville) is virtually hidden from public view.  I'll throw an attaboy to the Schermerhorn for some nice statuary around there and Musica, but that's thin gruel.  Even Chattanooga blows Nashville away. We have lots of sculptures around town, and even Montague (Sculpture) Park.

I guess that's why all of those tourists are flocking to Chattanooga over Nashville, because of it's "World Class" public art.

According to the press release Tuesday, MGM is no longer involved in the plan with SWVP acquiring their stake.  That's what the NBJ, Post, and Tennessean articles stated, and what I shared.  Could there be another different-branded hotel?  Perhaps.  However, nothing was said about that in the release, nor in the NBJ article, nor The Post article, nor The Tennessean article. But the three new towers that WERE mentioned are all residential (totaling about 1,000 units).   We'll just have to wait and see what little space that is left in that footprint might be able to hold something more.

It would be intriguing if in that whole development there would only be one hotel. Then again Capitol View only has one hotel in its massive development so maybe it wouldn't be surprising if Nashville Yards goes with just a single hotel.

Not exactly a full picture of the metro areas in this graph (downtown only), but it shows the vast differences in the allocation of office space to the rest of the commercial real estate. This shows the relative dominance of office in certain markets. Miami is not included in this graph, but I'd guess it would be toward the low end, as it's dominated by hotels, commercial and residential space.  I'd imagine Atlanta is somewhere in the middle of the pack (at around 40%) as so much office exists in Midtown-Bhead/GA400/Perimieter/Smyrna etc.  This does remind me that Nashville went for nearly 30 years when any new office of any significant size was built in the Cool Springs (Franklin) area.  As Smeags said above, the office downtown (how will they define the East Bank?) is about to register a huge bump in capacity (IIRC 3 million s.f. downtown and 1.5 million s.f. in midtown and .750 million in Williamson).

When was the 30 year office drought period?

  5. The Vanderbilt Tower, Graduate Hotel, and Hampton Inn are not commercial residence or office buildings. The developers know they can't charge top dollar to people or businesses with brick buildings. Those guys know what their big money customers want. And it ain't brick buildings. When businesses or people show their clients or family members where they live and work, they want them to think they are big time. Brick ain't big time. The funny thing is if Nashville was full of old timey brick buildings there would be complaints about it nonstop.

Well in NYC, all they are building are glass towers so we may as well just be content with that for a while until the trend changes. We can hope for just different shapes like this one, The Pinnacle tower, 800 Lea, and hopefully others to come. At least some of the last announced have not been boring glass boxes. We have been wanting more exciting shapes and now we are getting that.

Now if some of the smaller infill buildings are masonry, that will break up the hodge podge of the glass towers that are being built. Diversity of buildings really help and we are building from a blank slate in some areas like the East Bank. I am excited to see what happens there.

I find intriguing this psychological need to believe that Nashville has built nothing but glass boxes. Even when its obvious that it's poppycock, it keeps getting repeated. The pathology is fascinating to observe. Besides what city doesn't have buildings that have four corners. Truly mindnumbing.

Exactly.  EPCOT by itself probably wouldn't be very popular.  It's popular because it's part of the Disney World mega theme park.  I'm glad someone is thinking seriously about a new theme park in Nashville, don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure I understand why Storyville Gardens will become a major draw to tourists.  Don't tourists come to Nashville for the music?

Yeah, no tourist has ever come to Nashville for anything other than music.

    Yep.

Long time lurker and first time poster here. Had to comment on this one just to submit how jealous I am of this Miami project. Something like this in Nashville would be absolutely stunning.

Nashville needs more eye popping towers like this!

Yep Nashville definitely doesn't have anything like that under construction. Especially on Church St.

and Austin will be whining about our new Waldorf Astoria under construction here in Miami lmao: 100-Story Waldorf Astoria Residences Announces Q1 2022 Groundbreaking – The Next Miami

It is going to be 1,049 ft tall making it the new tallest here.

Quite a change from their usual repulsive window frame cladding most of their buildings have. This one actually looks good.

I would like to politely ask that you refrain from future similar posts about Memphis. You do a strong job with your contributions to the board, and I'm sure this was simply meant to be playful (and not flippant or malicious). Still, I was born in Memphis and love the city and found this post a bit offensive. Obviously, Memphis has struggled to see urban growth and development like Nashville. But your post comes across as an unprovoked cheap shot.

No big deal, Rolly. Just please be aware.

    Thanks

It's called inferiority complex. When there are daily cries about "height" and "crowns" by many on the board, posts like the one you are referencing are a manifestation of that complex. Notice the attack was not toward a certain has been city or a certain never was town.

Apologies, in regards to “new” development and major projects with the cities growth. The historic classic structures will always be the base of what Nashville is.

    So new developments like:

Hampton Inn, Graduate Hotel, Viridian, Cambria, Omni, Joseph, SoBro, HCA, LifeWay, SkyHouse, Abion, Alcove, MGM, etc don't count, correct?

I honestly wouldn’t mind something like this here in Nashville, it might not age the best design wise but i would love to see more variance in general. Cohesive design to the general space of course, but some diversity to really build uniqueness in the skyline.

I don't understand what you're talking about. Are you talking about:

Parkway Towers, Double Tree, The Source, Tennessee, Fifth Third, Nashville City Center, L & C, Sheraton, Renaissance, Philips, UBS, Cumberland?

Eh agree to disagree. Until this group brings on someone with billions in net worth, they will need public money, and lots of it.

This city attracts billion dollar developers like peanut brittle crumbs attracts ants. That won't be a problem.

  14. They may stay in Tampa and they may not. They've been trying to get a new stadium there for at least 15 years to no avail. They may choose to move the Rays to Nashville to take advantage of having the club play in one of the most popular destinations in the country, as well as having ownership of an accompanying world renowned entertainment district.  Thus increasing the value of the team exponentially.

This just shows that unless a city is willing to support its team they're probably going to go to a market that will”

in the context of the current Ray’s ownership trying to leverage a new stadium out of the city, this quote can only be read one way.

Agreed they will stay in Tampa, but I wonder what a barebones stadium would run these days. I’d guess at least a billion.

That's quite a leap to say they want public funding for a stadium based on that statement alone.

I found this and it stated they would not seek public money to fund a stadium.

Further point on this: after reading Tennessean article it is quite clear MLB to Nashville group is expecting city to front a large portion of stadium costs. A non starter imo.

Is there a link to the article where the MLB group is stating or indicating they want the city to "front a large portion of stadium costs"?

Why haven't we heard any rumblings about this property?  This is a chance to connect the CBD and midtown in a super exciting way.  Can't wait.

Dude this isn't something low level and quick like ordering craft beer. This is real business involving notification and sale of real estate. These things don't happen in a week.
