No but I will give it a guess given what I was told.   Pinkish purple ground floor retail.  Grey levels parking.  Yellow is residential or hotel rooms but the hotel is probably the shorter building fronting the park.    Some for sale condos in the mix.

    Theres a key hold up.

Ok hear me out:  this is good news bc it takes up another empty lot.

But I also have this idea of taking the sliver of land between Midnight Diner and that gorgeous building at Trade & Brevard, and turn that into a plaza that connects to the Moxy. Use the remaining portions on that block to set up food trucks or kiosks for food. Heck, you can even extend the plaza to cross 4th as well and go behind Skye. And then on either side where there are vacant lots, build small scale entertainment like the B Tower on 5th.

    Ok here's what I am thinking :

There is some strange grading in this area that will need to be fixed, but I think this is doable.

Asheville took on major debt in the time just before the Great Depression and then committed to paying their debts rather than bankruptcy as some other cities chose. It took forty years or so to complete the bond payments and during that time no projects were begun that required debt (generally). This meant that the glory period of Asheville remained and by the time the late 20th century arrived the city was ready to honor their heritage rather than losing it to the "modernity" of the mid 20th century as happened to so many other cities.

This is fantastic extra context to "but boomed during a time when people were tearing down historical architecture, unlike the other three cities which had their booms much more contemporarily when history was saved."

this mysterious apartment complex that is rising at N Tryon right outside the 277 loop.  I only say that because not much is know about the developer or the what it will finally look like.   Due to road blockage I was able to get some good photos of this one.  It is up to 9 floors of cinder block construction and I have no idea how tall it will be .   The apartment complex mostly likely to survive a category 4 hurricane here in Charlotte.

Developer is Silver Hill Real Estate out of Columbus, Ohio, The project is 232 units, 260 parking spaces, and thats about it. It's called "Silver Hills NoDa" but I hope they figure out just how far away they are from NoDa. I emailed them this morning to ask for a rendering.

this area continues to boom with Spacecraft's new apartment buildings going up at N Davidson and 25th and the Camden NoDa apartments which I still love on the edge of NoDa and Villa Heights.  Also the Flournoy apartments from Georgia at the same intersection.   and those new for sale townhomes on N Davidson at Matheson this maybe more NoDa.

Maybe if Leo's raised their prices they wouldn't have closed their business. I don't see how referencing a business that shut down 14 years ago has any relevance to prices, inflation or anything at all today.

Thanks for confirming the date, I was pretty sure they closed in 2010-12, but couldn't remember exactly.

Maybe someone needs to contact Leo from the former Leo's Deli on Elizabeth and ask him or his former employees how they managed to avoid inflation prices one items like pastrami. Opps! Sorry, there is no inflation. Right?

I remember Leo's Deli, and I'm pretty sure their Pastrami was made in a factory and came in a vacuum sealed bag, just like at most Deli's.

From NC Dept of Commerce Twitter when they toured the Southwire plant in Huntersville with the tall tower.  From earlier this month.  Look at the Southend skyline to the right of uptown.

Most of the development difficulty comes from sensitive water infrastructure, the only way it would be affordable is if it was done by a developer as part of a larger project. The city has had trouble justifying spending the amount needed for what essentially is a mirror of existing infrastructure. I imagine if the auto bell sits undeveloped long enough and rail trail traffic increases they’ll be able to justify it, but probably not until it’s inconvenient for everyone using it. I’d say within two years it’ll be “planned” and then it’ll be a slow process further slowed down by even a whiff of redevelopment.

I believe I got the news last year that they had reached a deal to close this gap, as part of the Auto Bell renovation, but I will have to follow up on that. I'm sure this is one of the busiest in the company.
