Wait, I was told redline would never happen!

Does that rendering show the actual design that will rise? I had assumed that it was a concept.
Might it rise soon? There’s demand for housing.
Nonetheless, Nothing seems to be happening with some other Uptown residential projects like the one on the old Museum of the South site on College Street. I wonder what’s going on.
Interest rates are going on…

So something I didn’t know about the new tower but it does have a slight cantilever.

WF Main is the original 12-story First Union HQ on Tryon. It opened in 1954. Although it's connected to Two Wells Fargo, it's considered a separate structure and (was) entirely occupied by the bank.
Never knew that, I used to be on the floor with the AV studios a while back. Now I am in 3. Never heard it called main. For the purposes of vacating, that and two wells are all one building now we huge floor plates

Which one is Wells Fargo main? We might be talking the same building. The 12 story annex attached to 2 Wells?

The same company that’s exiting three towers to push everyone to University City?
Three towers, that’s news to me, since I work for that company in uptown with them…
they exited 1 Wells and 2 wells, and went into their new 600,000 sqft in Duke Energy. They still have 3 wells which they have spent a bunch to renovate the interior, and 550 brevard, which is very nice.

Requests are reviewed by Planning followed by a public hearing and RECOMMENDATION from the Planning Commission. City council hears and ultimately decides fate of all requests for rezoning.
I’m laughing here because I’ve no idea why @CLTDevelopment feels any reason to show his hand so early and in this thread given he’s got to go through public hearing and is probably expected to factor that into his final input into recommendation.
I support the sign because it’ll probably fool a number of visitors into thinking Wells might actually be headquartered here given the prominence of what it’s affixed to.
Before too much indignation, just recall Chicago’s Trump Tower. Imagine this: Tepper Tower!
There probably will be a Tepper tower here in the next round of real estate boom once rates are down in a year or two

This is a company that is trying to bring its employees back into uptown to fill vacancies, and working to transform one of its old buildings into residential rather than leave it empty. The employee 30k people with high wages in Charlotte, and are first thought is immediately no? To a building they have owned for close to 20 years?
this is some NIMBY crap in a different form. I love you all but you should do some self reflection

Is the parking garage going to be adequately screened? Or is the neighborhood going to have to stare at another giant blank wall?
I think it’s going to get covered by another building…

At the end of the day, I don’t think constituents care other than a price tag that will be sure to draw opposition without a public-private partnership (even if it ends up being more expensive in the end…)
Look… Greyhound buses can’t even lease out a portion of the parking deck for light rail in University City. It even appeared something was agreed upon and some constituents got it reversed… within a couple days…
Less than 1,000 people use Charlotte’s Amtrak a day. Maybe like 800. Red Line isn’t happening - at all in the form of rail. Silver Line doesn’t really matter. I’m super pessimistic about the silver line unless somehow Dems take a trifecta control of the state. The silver Line probably wouldn’t even be open during most of Amtraks arrivals or departures… but there just won’t be many people anyway even if there were good times. I’d bet less than 100 people/day. There’s not gonna be hardly any CATS local service so Silver line riders won’t really need Amtrak. It’s just on nobodies radar other than not wanting to give reason for a political challenger due to spending $ on an Amtrak station. Partnering with a private developer makes sense to the vast majority most likely (again, even though it’s most likely not cheaper… and most likely more expensive. But people won’t notice that)
I mean, it seems Red Line might be happening now? That’s what the tone was in the other thread?

You’ll see!!!! You will all seeeeeeee!!! But seriously, why tear down and do the site work if they are not going to go vertical soon.
-
I think if this red line plan actually is serious, we will see the station come to fruition, but maybe not the huge 4 tower project, something more like what’s in Raleigh.
A redline with 30 minute headways would start really bringing volume into the station. I am assuming they don’t even know when the silver line will be built

Do they usually say this? First time I’ve seen it (or maybe first time I’ve actually looked out for it).
“Heading to the game?
The LYNX Blue Line is adding extra trains this evening to assist.”
Anyone take the line to the game this weekend? How was it with extra cars?

I don't doubt that at all I'm just very curious how they managed for so long through the lean years and now with thousands of new people they are having trouble. Always appreciate your insight.
All rational development thinking on my part goes out the window when we take the kids to see Santa on that lawn and they tell him what they want for Christmas. That's pretty special and I've confirmed through multiple sources that it is the real Santa Claus.
I mean, the Y is likely going to leave the building and sell to a property banker with no plans now… so I am sure the neighborhood will love a large abandoned blight in the middle of their area, that will soon be filled with homeless

They have actually started site work

Yea, this. Shareholders are tired of waiting on management-footprint reductions and they need to see visible indications of cost-savings from the merger. I would not be surprised to see Winston (and most other leftover BB&T offices in NC) get zeroed out,
Yah, Winston, and S Florida from legacy Sun Trust.

The ACC will exist.....but a few marquee football programs will bail. But that's OK, the ACC has Stanford and Cal and SMU now (read Bay Area market, DFW market). Powerhouses I tell ya.
The powerhouses are going to have trouble bailing soon, and who knows what all this looks like in 5 years when it’s more reasonable for FSU to bail. Clemson isn’t going to get a SEC offer anytime soon after the last 2 seasons

UNC + NC State + Duke + Wake Forest + Virginia + Virginia Tech + Louisville + Pittsburgh + Syracuse + Boston College + Clemson + Georgia Tech + Florida St + Miami + 1/2 Notre Dame + Stanford + California + SMU - Clemson - Florida St + UConn = ? ???
I doubt Clemson or FSU go anywhere for the next 12 years, the financial impact is pretty steep.

I don't see why it shouldn't at least be considered. If that's not in the plans, then something is wrong. I love the Dubois Center, but there needs to be more than just one building for the school, and it should either be on the 7th and Tryon land or the land directly adjacent to the Dubois Center. This innovation district has been discussed since the 2020 Vision Plan, so I consider this better late than never. Actually, I'll believe it when I see shovels in the ground. With McColl at the helm, it bodes better than before.
What better way to pivot from the news just a couple days ago to now entrenching the largest university in the region in Uptown?
McColl has a long history of getting things done, and really loves Charlotte. If he is involved personally I could see this happening, but we will see.
