It is part of the overall street and pedestrian improvements. I don't have specifics, but like the rest of the project on The Plaza, I'll defer any judgement until it is completed. That intersection specifically is really bad for cars and people.

Thanks!

Does anyone know what they are doing in the median at the Plaza/Parkwood intersection? I am disappointed they tore down the historic plaza midwood sign. A bunch of crepe myrtles were cut down too

Everyone always talks about Daniel Levine and how he is holding so much land hostage in the North Tryon area, but he also is doing the same here in Plaza. Its a shame that he is letting so many lots and buildings just sit empty or underused off of Commonwealth and the Plaza. These lots if developed the right way could really give plaza the more urban feel. Anyone have any idea what he is waiting on?
Which properties does Levine own in Plaza?

I am fascinated by the volume of concrete used in so many buildings. Boggles my mind.
I wonder what the factors are for choosing steel like Ally, all concrete like the LU buildings and FNB or a hybrid like Lowe’s which changes to steel after the parking levels, or in othe buildings a concrete core with a steel frame around it?

Isn’t steel cheaper than concrete? I’d love to know the answer here too

Signage up today for this project and it’s not townhomes, but a boutique office building called 1800 Central. Pretty cool to see a spec office building in PM. Anyone know anything about it?

SaveTheHallHouse and rolling grasslands of Levine's First Ward land holdings. We could raise food crops for homeless and those in need on this prime land if it is going to be left unused for decades.
1. at least UNCC has a completed building. 2. 3. 4. rolling grasslands
5. Hall House would be a great hotel again.
A “feed the homeless” community garden would actually be an amazing use of that lot! I could see that idea gaining momentum on social media like Queens Park. And unlike that it doesn’t require any meaningful public funds, just a temporary license agreement with Levine.

Does anyone know what’s under construction at the corner of Nandina and Central across from Harris Teeter? There is a crane on site today

I’d like it if the stadium was incorporated into the neighborhood/surrounding buildings more like the Real Madrid inspiration in the YouTube. This reminds me of the Gulch and Mercedes Benz in Atlanta which misses the mark, in my opinion.

I hate to say it, but I think this project will look quite nice when it’s complete. This right here already looks pretty decent as far as size. Love the width and density, just wish it were about 6 floors taller.
I agree. And I look at Stonewall street now and see Uptown 550 and think man, that’s an attractive building. Particularly next to Novel which looks incredibly VE’d and half cocked. Northwood Ravin builds nice deals.

This is one of my favorite projects in Charlotte for a number of reasons.
1. Apartments and office in the same tower
2. Extension of the skyline and surrounding of RB park
3. Parking garage is wrapped in glass, like the old Wachovia buildings were. So it’s completely hidden not just screened.
4. Another logo on a tower that will see panthers stadium blimp coverage. Good advertising for the QC

My first instinct was to propose full extension of Sunnyside into the new Central Square, ultimately connected to Pecan/Commonwealth, but I took a Street View on Google Maps and realized that, if nothing else, the length of the approach a vehicular (but multimodal) bridge would require for grade separation would ruin the aesthetics of the old buildings in Central Square, and even east Sunnyside, So I immediately abandoned the thought of a full multimodal bridge built for car traffic (but bicycles would still make the pedestrian bridge technically multimodal, right?) I also knew a vehicular bridge would be complicated by rights, costs issues, so my suggestion of *just* a pedestrian (and bike) bridge is hopefully a reasonable compromise that could and should be made to happen.
I passionately hope the old buildings in Central Square will be preserved--they're gems--and that new buildings will be built around them.
The city needs to fully realize that with the Silver Line stop for Pecan on the south end of Central Square, this isn't just another mid- to large scale private development, but is actually the genesis of an entirely new TOD neighborhood, and they need to fully lean in/on all parties to make it fulfill as many TOD expectations as physically possible.
Although, as I type this, I did come up with a Big Idea, which means it will only ever be that, but... If the design for the new Central Square includes a large parking garage (which you know it will), it's likely--or rather should logically be--built alongside the railroad tracks. If you're building a multistory parking garage anyway, you're going to necessarily obscure the north facade of the westernmost historic building (by the tracks) anyway, so if it's going to happen regardless...
I'm now *dreaming* of a radical structure combining two elements: a multimodal bridge on its south end, with access to the parking structure from the bridge to the garage's upper levels (with traditional ground level access to the garage as well). You could even combine THREE elements and build this *multimodal structure* with a third element--a la Honeywell HQ or the hotel at the Spectrum South Tryon--a parking structure actually topped by a multiuse building, with the "best views" in Central/Commonwealth! The street elevation of the residential/business/retail structure would face the new elevated street (i.e. the Sunnyside street extension bridge), and the lower garage floors of the structure would be effectively screened by the other, standard height buildings built in the development.
Just my Thursday morning fantasy, typed out!
Based on the site plan it looks like 1 of the 3 buildings is going to be preserved but the others are demolished? Can someone confirm?

They also owned the Duke Energy 2 site. Eastern Federal is gonzo and exists as a land banking company now.
Meiselman just bought the Boston Market and adjacent retail complex on Providence plus a similar neighborhood center on Selwyn. But I agree they seem to be passive owners.

Across from Savona Mill. Anyone know if these are original street cars? Looks like they are protected behind that fence so maybe they are being incorporated into the renovation?

the one thing about this is that PCCP which is a Chinese backed development fund must believe Charlotte and the US will survive and thrive again otherwise they wouldn't loan $95 Million plus on it.
I think you’re remembering 615 S College - China Orient Asset Management and China Summit Capital were Portman’s equity partners and PCCP provided the construction loan. PCCP is a fund manager, they may have Chinese LPs but they are not Chinese-backed per say.

Can Beacon acquire Crescent and Lincoln Harris? These buildings are better.
I don’t know who Beacon’s capital partner is on this, but it’s possible they financed it internally (the founder is HNW) which is why they can take a design-driven, long term approach to the properties they develop. Childress Klein is capitalized similarly. Crescent and Lincoln Harris both partner with hot, opportunistic equity that cares about maintaining a low basis in projects (cheap) and making a quick profit. Architecture and how a building fits into the fabric of the city aren’t a consideration for those equity groups.

I see your point...and yes if anybody hates seeing parking garages it’s me lol but I think this one might not be too bad. But I love the placement of it instead of each individual building having parking connected to it. I think once done you’ll appreciate it. I wonder if the garage will have any retail?
I agree I think this deck will blend into the block/project much better than what we’re seeing Uptown
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkFun Story:
There was a part of the mine that was filled in with old cars on top of each other, the Gold District plans to preserve the cars, and the shaft, and make it a destination/park. So just a bunch of antique cars stacked on each other, seems very cool to me.
Any detail on the plans or where this was originally documented?

It looks like the rubble is just cinder block. I hope you are right and they plan to reassemble it. It makes for a nice entrance to the neighborhood
