lol what... yall could complain about anything.

I think it just boils down to what type of person you are. The aspirational types want the highest and best use of the space given. The non-aspirational types are happy with what they're given. Neither are wrong necessarily in terms of Orlando and our ability to transcend, but the opinions do indeed differ.

Agreed. The plaza was always meant to be used for gathering/entertainment space... I think they referred to the outdoor space as the 4th theater or something like that. Just goes to show you that you don't have to spend a lot of money for something to be successful--just think outside of the box a little.

But currently, it kinda looks like a shanty town. I still think a tasteful shipping container plaza would be a happy medium as a permanent fixture once social distancing requirements become a thing of the past. The industrial architecture would compliment DPAC's aesthetic better too.

I got a giggle outta this. The suggestion that shipping crates would lessen the shantytown vibe tickles me. Cheers!

Meh, kids & young adults are always attracted to bad/prohibited things. That kind of stuff is like junk food: ok to snack on but it shouldn't be your sole source sustenance (unfortunately for some people it is). The problem is that more and more people from ALL communities seem to lack home training and basic etiquette.

More and more families with both parents working full time jobs to get by. Lack of time spent with kids.

So interesting. I have to read up on box jacking. I always wondered about what will go down at 417. Also, mentioned crossing 528 twice. Where? Maybe this is why all the land clearing on the north side?

They are building a bridge over Industry Rd in Cocoa and there are going to be two tunnels built for the train to go underneath 528. The article I read wasn't horribly specific, but that's what I garnered.

coming down South Street, eastbound, this is way too squatty for the type of shape that it has.  I just don't understand how they would only go up as high as they did on the hotel floors and didn't go up a minimum of 5 more floors for the sake of proportions.  Only in Orlando.  this building for the base that it has, for the width that it has...it should've been at least 400' in height.  this city must be on a real estate investment life support because every project, it seems, get the bare minimum height just to be passable.  I am disappointed in how this building is turning out.  that cool photo above from 55W is not what it looks like from Amway.  Too bad.  Do what they did with Ginzberg Tower...build it taller, leave those extra floors vacant...until you need them.  Is financing that weak that a company like Lincoln can't even do that...in Orlando?

if that is the main benefit, then I agree with you. otherwise, I'm adding to the "retroactive hate"...  I just feel like simply filling an empty parking lot is not good enough anymore...  that being said, this will probably have good lighting.  I shouldn't be so negative...

It's tough to carry forth pride for Orlando and not lament the squatty buildings going up. Sometimes I agree that a parking lot would be better than an ungainly proportioned tower.

Every time this thread has a post, I get excited and think there’s a real update, only to find the same sarcastic comments I’ve seen for months. It might be a better use of a cynic’s time to just let this topic die. I can’t imagine ever posting in an “earth is flat” forum because I simply do not believe in it, so why even waste my time? All of my posts would just basically amount to “the earth is not flat!” In conjunction, perhaps if anyone doesn’t think this project is realistic, follow the same line of thinking?

    I agree.

    Aggressive drivers...

I would agree about LA; motorcyclists drive on the dashed lines and pass drivers whether driving or stalled during rush hour.

Chicago is low b/c they have turn signals on expressway ramps; and, the city proper has a nice urban grid and you can make good headway on LSD or major streets if you time it right.  Same with 94/90.

Orlando- yeas, there's lots of a-holes on our roads.  They will shoot you for merely merging onto I-4.

Atlanta- I-85, where everybody thinks the speed limit is 85mph...

NYC- IMO, would have to be No.1 or 2.  You have to be crazy to drive in NYC daily.   LA is nothing compared to NYC ala aggressive drivers.  Being stuck in rush hour traffic does not equal aggressive NYC driving..  Maybe ask Officers Frank Poncherello and John Baker and see what they think...

I wouldn't deem lane splitting as aggressive. It's very common in California and a lot of other countries. And I like driving in Manhattan. It's one of the few remaining places in America where people actually go when the light turns green.

Does anyone else worry about the durability of these wood frame buildings popping up all over downtown? From what I understand, EIFS or basically any kind of sheathing over wood frame will always fail due to water intrusion (especially in FL) and result in wood rot. What are the life expediencies for wood apartments and why are they being allowed in urban areas? Maybe I'm being dramatic, but I worry that in the next 30-40 years we're going to have all of these wood framed buildings fall into disrepair = blight.

Didn't this recently happen to an apartment building in Metrowest?
