It is Orlando Meats. Those guys are true gems of Orlando and couldn't be more excited for them to take over. Going to be a massive upgrade.

I was very sad that Bruno left and am very happy that Orlando Meats is coming in. This forum is an emotional roller coaster.

Conde Nast names the best bars in Orlando. Hard to argue that any of these are bad, but there are a few I would have left off and a few others I would have included.

Nice list (although poor Sanford is just glommed into Orlando without so much as a mention).  Seems like their definition of "best" is "does whatever it is they are doing well, even if what they are doing is being a dive".

I guess I need to go out to Disney to hit the few I have not been to already.  How old is the tequila bar at Epcot? I've definitely had margarita's in Ep-Mexico but it's been years and I don't remember the bar looking that nice.  I think we just got ours at a little stand or something.

You are correct it is the side entrance. The front portion of the building houses Hamburger Mary's and I don't see it going anywhere.  The rear portion is what was el Buda/ Maddy & Cru/ some lame pizza joint after being Brick and Fire Pizza/ et al and all of those entered through the side entrance.

They way it's depicted it may help break the curse on that space.  A big problem has been just getting people to that side door since it seems like...well, a side door.  It looks like they are trying to move the perceived entrance up to Church St., which seems like a good idea to me.  I get that they aren't literally moving the door but that framework looks a lot more like "a thing that I am supposed to walk through" than the old alley/back patio thing.

  4. Also, I don't want to go on Instagram because I haven't seen Endgame yet (so, no link) but word is that Suffering Bast_rd (tiki bar) in Sanford is finally open. Looks great from the pics I've seen.

Sanford bar and restaurant scene is really hitting it.

TIL, this forum auto-corrects the spelled out version of Bast_rd with "Beotch", which I would think would be more offensive.

Fuzzy’s on Orange (in the former Cafe Annie spot) has closed. Like, literally today. All furniture is gone.

Wow, that didn't take long. How long were they even open? 3 months or so?

I didn't really get why anyone would open a chain taco shop right in the middle of neighborhood that is brimming with good, established taco places though.

...they are also offering a very high end low ABV cocktail menu...

I wish this concept would take off more locally. Courtesy has a nice array of vermouths, amaros,  etc. but a lot of bartenders aren't well-versed in session-type cocktails. I've got no problem with Campari and soda but it's nice to have additional options.

  7. Here are a couple of photos from Robinson Room. I just stopped in for one since I was meeting friends elsewhere but it looked nice and my drink was good. HH is an $8 cocktail list with some other options (I forget the specifics re: beer/wine).  The drinks were craft.

It wasn't as gloomy as my poor photography skills might suggest.

Link updated and TMS is not closing.  FYI, Too Much Sauce comes from the creator of Hot Krust which is largely beloved in the Sand Lake area.  Evan is an awesome dude and make amazing fast casual food.  I believe he sold Hot Krust to focus on TMS.  But I highly recommend both.

Good to hear, I like TMS.

Again, the miracle here is a third party vendor that does this theme and menu, not them technically.

"Participating in" might have been a clearer word choice on my part than "doing" but I understand that it's a national thing with  pre-determined elements (menu, special glassware, etc.).  However, it's the same bartenders in the same space making seasonal drinks (as they always do).   They still have free Pig Floyd's on Sundays; they still have happy hour, etc.

I think "They do Miracle" is accurate for a given definition of "do".

  10. OW had a blurb that Robert Treviño (chef owner of El Buda) is opening up a ceviche place, theoretically before the end of the year.

Treviño has linked with the team at Don Julio Mexican Kitchen on South Chickasaw Trail, and will soon open a ceviche bar in the space next door, appropriately called Ceviche Bar by Don Julio.

BTW The Courtesy, downtown, is doing "Miracle on Orange" again this year.  They re-do their menu and decor for Christmas with special drinkware, etc. It's pretty fun and their cocktails are always good.

Yeah, I was hoping somebody would have news on a new tenant. That was a really neat little location when I briefly lived in Eola Heights.

Bungalower has an article on it. It's going to be "Eola General" and the guys from Dixie Dharma and the food court place in Sanford are behind it.

It was truly terrible. Being a business owner I hate to wish ill upon others, but I'm hopeful the abomination across the street from them will soon follow.

Yeah, that place across the street (Mesa? w/e) has a great view but that's not enough to get me to go back to it. Calling it mediocre and generic is generous.

  13. Wait, Sunrail loses money on collecting money? So the maintenance on the ticket machines and the cost of having someone vaguely possibly checking to see if you have a ticket costs more than the money generated from the tickets? Or am I missing some expense?

That would never have crossed my mind as even being a possibility. TIL, etc.
