  1. I'd just like to point out that somehow Jacksonville is lapping Orlando here.

They're building a new park under the Fuller Warren Bridge in Jacksonville, which was proposed after Under i. That park is opening this year. It's construction also started after that segment of I-4 Ultimate that Under i is under was complete.

Best part! Jacksonville didn't end up switching half of the park to a parking lot years into the effort.

That true and it's entirely not right. There should be one set of rules to play by for everyone, but clearly there is not...... and you are correct when you say it changes from administration to administration. It's the DOJ who files the lawsuit which in turn makes it controlled by politics and lobbiests. Obviously, Jetblue need to hire better lobbies to pad the pockets of those in charge.

I don't really agree that there should be a set of rules. Each situation is unique both in its details and in its context. Also, while at times annoying, I consider the ebb and flow of policy and enforcement between administrations an integral part of our government.

The FTC has more authority on antitrust on the larger scale than the DOJ does by the way. The DOJ tends to more enforce policy that is developed by the FTC, rather than developing the policy themselves. Most of the time, the DOJ won't get involved because companies won't challenge the FTCs ruling.

Sure, but this merger was small potatoes compared to the legacy mergers, but yet they were allowed through. Their reasoning was also sketchy..... specifically calling out that they like Spirit's low fares and do not want to see them go away...... like hello..... there is a reason they are teetering on bankruptcy.

The way the government defines what a agreeable vs disagreeable monopoly is changes decade to decade and administration to administration. I wouldn't act like just because previous mergers of similar nature were allowed that this one must be,  or vis versa.

that adds to phenomenal "momentum" The Port has seen as of late.  There's lots of ridership, they've cut deals with new to market lines and new ships from existing customers.

it's interesting b/c Port Everglades and PortMiami both have a lot of infrastructure there; a lot of existing "real" terminals. Port Canaveral is still kind of catching up.  PC has 6 real terminals with parking garages for each (not counting the geodesic domes).  A 7th major terminal is under development now sooner than originally anticipated.

I think their willingness to cater to new tenants and shell out the cheddar has attracted more cruise business

There's even only 1 geodesic dome terminal remaining. The other two were torn down for the new "real" terminal.

Would really love to see that red line up toward Eustis. I think it would have great ridership.   Huge game changer for communities like Apopka.

That route has been floated a few times during and before Sunrail. The more recent iteration went by the name "Orange Blossom Express." Orange Blossom Express - Wikipedia

My understanding was not all of the west leg was put back in service.  Also NASA's locomotives did not return.

West leg is open up to NASA Parkway.

East leg is pretty much dead without a restoration effort.

I believe FEC is doing all the shunting for them now, so yeah.

I noticed this in google Earth and it made me sad to see this basically confirmed.

"By 2016, much of the trackage along the East Leg as well as in the KSC Industrial Area had been pulled up and was presumably scrapped, while the majority of trackage along the West Leg was left in place and simply taken out of service."

On the bright side, the west leg is back in service now. It's used for transporting boosters and other large parts for the new rockets, like SLS.

PC wants a rail connection for freight. They may never get it.  If they did get it, then maybe they could merge BL with it's easement.  Beyond that, I think a BL station would merely be in Cocoa with bussing for the final  3 or so miles (maybe 5?)

There was a time when the rail through Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral SFS was being considered for Port Canaveral freight, but there was pushback as it'd be through access controlled areas. No idea what it's status is at this point.

I agree with everything....... And Delta had the balls to say it was not needed when they scaled down their entire operation at Orlando.

Regarding Rick Scott, I voted for him, but couldn't disagree more with him regarding turning down the federal dollars. Obama was going to give away the money to anyone. They didn't care. Why stand on a soap box when it isn't gonna make a difference. Might of well taken the money. As of today, all the money went to California. Totally wasted in California. Only part that is under construction even close to being completed are in the middle of nowhere between cities the size of Lakeland. We are also 15 years later. the first nowhere to nowhere section isnt even gonna be open for another 7 years in 2030.  I honestly do not thing it will ever be completed between LA and San Francisco....... WHAT A WASTE!! total cost to complete that thing, if it is ever completed, will be well north of $150 billion.

So with that being said, if Rick Scott took the money, we would already have Orlando to Tampa up and running. Probably have stops at Disney and Universal..... and since Florida is so much easier to build in....... I am sure for a fraction of the cost of the California boondoggle.......... we could have linked Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Jax with true high speed rail.

I'll push back a bit on the notion that all of the money went to California. A few 110 mph corridors, that are currently running, were funded through it, and some studies that are now allowing the current Infrastructure Bill's funds to go directly to design and build work. But yes, the majority of the funds ended up going to California's project.

Just curious, with all this cheese that the TDT turned into, can we use the money for the airport? Sure, one might all it infrastructure, however the airport is directly related to tourists. Maybe they can build the terminal C APM?

Hahaha.......I know you all are gonna say I'm obsessed with the APM.

Airports have access to such huge pots of federal money that it'd be a waste to use TDT on it, but I'm an APM fan too

Yea the plan was always off to the side and not share a lobby or platfrom with BL.  That might change in the future, but this is the plan I've seen tossed around since 2013.  I've been through the reasons why it was that way in the past, but what makes me ponder is all that bridge for the BL tracks heading south to the maintenance building.

    14 hours ago, jrs2 said:

so the Sunrail platform will be opposite that drive-up to the Intermodal?  I thought they said that the Intermodal was being built to be able to house three train systems?  And that the Sunrail space would be where dirt currently is way underneath between BL and the APM.

Sunrail's platform height is different from Brightline's, which requires them to use different platforms. This is also why Trirail has their own platforms at MiamiCentral station in downtown Miami.

Brightline's station is able to expand from 2 platforms (current) to 4 platforms. The large bridge and mound is to support the two additional tracks leading to the 2 additional platforms in the future.

Does anyone know why Terminal A2 is missing a leg?  It's like 8 or 9 gates never got built.  I wonder why C was started before A was finished.

I asked this a while back. Apparently, its b/c adding that missing leg would result in a section of the terminal that is way newer than the rest (the bones of it).  That means it would end up being demolished farther from end-of-life as the whole airside terminal would be demolished at the same time, including the older legs. It made more sense to simple construct more of the Terminal C than fully-build out Terminal A/B due to that lost 'cost' from the earlier demolition. Also, political will and grants were in an unusually good place when Terminal C was getting its funding together, so they wanted to grasp at the opportunity as it presented itself.

I’m not familiar with where the Brightline station is located in Miami. Is it near a people mover and/or Metro station? If so, that would help eliminate the need for having a car or calling an Uber/Lyft/taxi. Of course, if you’re going to South Beach or the cruise terminal, you’ll need to find a way there. That’s one of the things that doesn’t have me quite as sold on Brightline.

There is a short bridge from Miami Central (Brightline and future Tri-Rail service) to Civic Center Station (Metromover, Metrobus, Metrorail). This is a direct building-to-building bridge, so no need to go down to ground level. There's also a free Uber/Lyft within some radius of the station to your final destination included in your Premium ticket. Free shuttles to the airports and cruise terminals along the route are also available for every passenger.

That future Tri-Rail service to Miami Central is expected Fall 2023 with Tri-Rail Coastal Link, a new parallel Tri-Rail line closer to the coast and through more downtown areas throughout South Florida that will be operated by Brightline, joining it sometime around 2024/2025.

    Well, let me attempt clarification:

“woke” is a term coined by the left, yet the right gets ostracized for using it in an attempt to refer to it.  You know what woke means. Bill Maher has a segment on how the Chinese used that same PC bullish!t to usher in their current communist system.  If you want a definition, email your political leaders.

”sexual abuse of minors” is in my response to the post I replied to where that came up initially by someone else.  Maybe read those posts for context.

”transgenderism”- well, you know exactly what that is about and what is being pushed in schools.

the “fire” is the act of going off curriculum in schools talking about these issues thus stepping on the toes of parents.  Maybe you are for stepping on the toes of parents, I don’t know.

what does child molesters have to do with the Parental Rights Act or my comments?  This about teachers overstepping their authority.  You can correlate and couch it any way you like to try and get people to back off, but it doesn’t matter because it is what it is and now everyone is aware of it.

I never started using the term “groomer” until a gay poster wrote it in a post a few months ago.  I had never even heard of that term before then.  Why? Because tracking what gays are up to and the lingo isn’t within my wheel house.  But when everyone started crying about DeSantis, I started paying closer attention.  I may not have used the term groomer before today.  Well, it belongs to the gay community since that’s where I heard it first.  So?  I didn’t coin it.

Co-opting phrases and Coining terms:  actually, it is the “liberal MSM.”  Why? Because they are liberal. Oh wait, you said just MSM.  That’s short for mainstream media.

And it is not my argument.  I am merely stating the argument of the affected parties leading up to the passage of the Act that you don’t seem to want to respect or acknowledge.  And then gays wonder why there’s a smidge of discontent pointed in their direction and their precious WDW?  Well, Disney’s stock has gone down in the past year for a reason.

Coining terms:  why not coin the phrase “Don’t Say You Should Have A Sex Change To Minors Law” instead?  It is more accurate.  I mean, really?  Minors?  If you ever got arrested and went to jail and other inmates found out that you were doing that, to minors, you know, getting in their heads, your goose would be cooked.  Talk to an inmate.  They may be criminals, but they don’t tolerate people messing with kids in any way.  Why should those “groomers” (as you say) get a pass?  What makes them so special?

And if you are offended at the “Don’t Say Gay” moniker, blame your own people for lumping regular gays into the category and into the discussion by coining that phrase when it doesn’t have anything to do with gays in general.  I have gay friends that do not agree with transgenderism and support that Act.  I have discussed this with them a lot to get their take on things. It’s funny; if you know a gay conservative, try talking to him instead of alienating him.  Be more relatable. You may learn something.

Dude, I don't know how you expect people to discuss this with you when your being confrontational, avoiding questions, and playing dumb. I know what "I" think these words and phrases mean. I want to know what YOU think they mean. Not once did you define anything I just asked about. Do you know what these words mean?

Are you insinuating "groomer" is gay lingo? Because it most certainly is not. Those you're supporting coined that term in the current context.

My precious WDW? I don't think anyone has made an emotional argument for Disney here. If you were aware of the business, you'd know that the stock is down primarily because the streaming bet is not working out. The Parks, which is the division relocating, has done great.

Ah ok, so you're against saying minors "should" be transexual. I wasn't aware of that happening anywhere, and none of the arguments from the State have shown that. Either way, if that's your main point, then you probably shouldn't agree with this law. It's exceptionally broad and does more than banning this.

Oh wait, are you transphobic? What do you mean by "do not agree with transgenderism?"

thank you for that.  I wasn't aware of the history, and it is important to factor in.  And with that in mind, yeah, I agree with you on those points.

that being said, there is transgenderism being taught in schools.  Nobody accused the gay community of sexual abuse of minors.  the only things that I've seen are what I posted on, mind you, in response to people vilifying DeSantis- and your post explains it- vilifying him for making a problem where there wasn't one.  Are you sure about that though, that its not a real problem to solve?  What is your data on that?  That's like saying that a complaining parent is complaining because they are an unreasonable homophobe.  Or, that there aren't any complaints.  Do you write them all off because of how they vote, or did he just make it all up?   I know for a fact how at the college and professional school level (not just at UF) professors preach all this liberalism and the recent "woke" culture and students are fed up with it.  And its no secret that the left tries to get them early on as well, on a variety of issues.

You are applying an older concept but writing off the current issue as though it is based on a prejudice, unfounded by current facts or data.  I don't fault you for that but  you actually cleared up a point for me which is why the gay community is in such an uproar- they assume it is all unfounded.  They think that there was no fire to the smoke that led to the Act.  I get it.

I'm trying to understand your argument.

What do you consider "transgenderism being taught in schools?"

What do you mean by "woke?"

What fire are you referring to? That caused this act to be required.

What does this act do against child molesters that previous ones didn't? I thought child molestation was illegal for a while now. On that, what do you mean by "sexual abuse of minors" in this context?

Lastly, are you okay with co-opting phrases and coining terms within this context? You seem to use them for your position (Groomer, woke, MSM, , but call others out for using their own (Don't Say Gay

The problem is that many assume that only people with left wing activism tendencies are of value as an imangineer or in a dept of creative talent. That is the misnomer here that many in the press ignore. There are many with left wing tendencies without an activism bend, moderates, and ones with right wing tendencies that would do just a fine job replacing those that chose not to move.

Look, politics aside, some simply may not want to uproot their families and move across the country and if they can get a similar job close to home, why wouldn't they stay for their family?

I can guarantee you that if Universal's counterpart to this division made an announcement that they were moving back to California, I can tell you quite a bit of their local workers would be upset and not want to move there.

However, a fake narrative on a universal move for them not wanting to move would not be created in the press because it does not fit the media's narrative.

Please don't fall for this garbage. For the few that stay behind in California with this disney move, I would say only a very small handful are doing it for politics. Most would be staying because they simply don't want to move across the country.

    I didn't assume that.

My points were: 1) Disney's PR mismanagement and the State's response created an environment less favorable to Disney; 2) Forcing a whole workforce to move across the country, especially one full of "the best in the business" and know their value, is going to result in many not relocating, which can diminish your future product. 3) New leadership leads to new priorities. That means that Iger may have shifted the focus of those leading this move to other tasks.

Those were 3 distinct points, and I did not make a connection between the talent relocating and their beliefs or political affiliation.

Either way, I think you overestimate the amount of people who can fill those positions, maintain the company's standard, and are either already in (and looking for a job) or looking to relocate to Orlando. Either way, that's the math Disney is doing.

3 hours ago, Poe Tempkin said:

Well, it's a free country and nobody is obligated to work at a particular place of employment. They can show their true disdain by leaving the company as you've indicated some have and others will. If they have deep ties to California or are just plain disinclined to move to Florida, I don't blame them for moving on. If Disney proceeds with the move they will find alternative talent to fill the positions these folks vacate.

I mean; Yes, it is "a free country," but I wasn't arguing against that. They can leave the company. My point is Disney may have underestimated the amount of talent willing to relocate or available to switch companies. Universal Creative is building a whole new park at the moment, and the sister industry where themed design talent is frequently pulled from (film and television) are not located in Orlando.

  16. On 1/25/2023 at 6:23 PM, Poe Tempkin said:

Of course. After all the posturing for PR (Disney) and political (DeSantis) purposes, it comes down to the money. I would question the competence of leadership at Disney if they left the tax breaks on the table. Meanwhile, as far as his base is concerned, DeSantis stood up to "woke Disney", regardless of what transpires with RCID. I'm not going to lie, though. I thought for a minute we were going to lose this over the political nonsense. I should have known better.

At a company like Disney Parks & Resorts, which was the business unit to be located in Lake Nona, your value proposition ultimately comes from their creative talent, and the talent has expressed their disdain for relocating to Florida. It's already resulted in some pre-emptively leaving the company for competitors.

I wouldn't be surprised if the State's performance in-response to Disney's PR (however poorly it was managed), the disdain for relocation by talent, and the change in leadership has lead to them pulling the project to focus their time and resources elsewhere.

how do you think this alignment will work?  It seems to be meandering through an industrial part of town vs being more or less isolated adjacent to 417 on the original alignment...doesn't seem the train would go that fast through there.

I'm not making any assumptions until I see actual alternatives analysis and the like. This could very well be fully elevated, and should be for high speed rail.

  19. The 8 min headways is new, so even though the Lime headways were likely poorly impacted the system as a whole got better headways out of these changes.

IMO, Grapefruit and Orange work great, but I don't see the purpose of Lime. If you're going to extend north or south, then really do it. Don't half ass it.

  20. Anyone notice the new routing for Lymmo Lime? It's a weird winding route, but now serves SoDo (Kinda). I never took the North Quarter part of the Orange line before, so I'm not sure when it was absorbed into the Lime line as well.
