Foxtail and Leguminati are in soft opening currently. looks awesome inside.  They are calling it the Hourglass Social House and has a pseudo GB's Bottle shop vibe.

The exterior Social House sign is placed directly above the Tamale Co/patisserie space but the Coffee/vegan/liquor store is called the Social House. I bet Foxtail demanded their logo on the exterior which effed up the sign placement.

Can't say that I'm all that disappointed. I thought their plans were a bit too grandiose for that area anyway. Did they really need TWO new cinemas? Why not just do one new one, which might have possibly reduced the parking space requirement? Hopefully now the place will stay the way it is.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but ending a project running since 2013 abruptly sounds like a power play. Perhaps they want the City to help them more than they have/had. Just guesses.

This project is back and it looks great.  It's a shame to lose those older homes but this is a great looking design.  Hopefully, we will see more projects like this in the areas near Summerlin.

It looks like an office building. That part of Thornton Park is the Maitland of downtown.

@Mark Baratelli if you want to write on this the address now seems to be 211 E Michigan (old Cricket) and at least one permit open (DET2018-10141) that actually paints a bad picture of owner in the wording even though I totally get what they are going for

Wow thank you for this! I took a break from the forum. Sad I missed this one. Thank you again.

Pottery Barn is on Park Ave. There used to be on at Mall at Millenia but I think that one might've closed.

The Apple Store in Florida Mall used to be the Pottery Barn. The Pottery Barn in Millenia is still open. It's Crate & Barrel is the one that closed in Millenia which will soon house an Hermes store (!!!). I go to the malls a lot.

Mark, I know you do a lot of stories on health code violations so when they try to BS you in the future they don't get local and state inspections. The Orange Co DOH only does institutions like schools. Our UCF store gets inspected by them because we are on the land of an educational institution. Restaurants are certified by DBPR and they do all health inspections. They don't have a local vs state inspector. You get the local inspector based on geography.
It sounds like these people had no idea how to run a restaurant and just throw a bunch of BS excuses out that most people won't know aren't true.

I do wonder why this is even a restaurant if you can't wash dishes there. Feels like a complete miss by the developers.

Update - I called National Real Estate to ask if the new F&D pizza place will be on city service and they confirmed it will. Real dishes for everyone!

I really don't know much about them, but I noted when Peppino's got dinged by the health department one of the issues was they were using plates and silverware.... Why is that an issue. Well, because the property is on septic and did not have the capacity to wash dishes and by code could only use disposable. To your point, yes I agree that may be an issue with the "developer" of the project.

I did a story about this inspection in March and wow Just wow!!!

The restaurant is only licensed to use disposable cutlery and plates for its guests: they were caught using real dishes and silverware at both inspections. This is related to the restaurant being connected to a septic system. The manager told us they are now using disposable cutlery and plates.

The restaurant did not have a copy of the previous inspection report as required and the required restaurant license was not displayed.

It was found to have 62 seats inside and out when it was only licensed for 27. WTF!?? This was uncovered during its February 14th health inspection. When the inspectors returned  February 27th, it still had more seats than it was licensed for. I spoke with the manager/owner on the phone back then who stated the extra 35 seats were outside on the porch for guests to sit in while they were waiting for an inside table. He also said there were never over 60 seats.

He stated before he moved his restaurant into the space, he was to have over 80 seats. Due to the restaurant being on a septic system and not city sewer, the number of allowed seats was reduced to 27.

The manager said there was a miscommunication between the "local" health department and the state health department. He said he had a verbal agreement with the local health department that if he flushed the septic tank once a week they could have more than the 27 seats allowed.

The restaurant could not show proof of state-required employee training for any employees and the Manager on duty could not show proof of State Food Handling Service Manager certification during both inspections. The owner told us he is the only Manager of the restaurant and while the inspections were happening he was not present. He also said only one employee with employee training must be present and that not all employees have to be trained.

IMO we shouldn’t accept crap for the sake of building stuff. More fat stumpy generic and butt ugly buildings. I for one am sick and tired of this.  We are not the red headed step child that has to accept anythingfrom developers

Yes the hell we are. This City accepts the craptiest designs constantly. The Appearance Review Board is a angel love joke. And every design I've seen in my short time writing about these trash projects is first presented as a crapty-ass building that can only go up from there. They force the city to demand design elements and they do that because this Appearance Review Board and Staff don't push very hard. They crap themselves over those gold metal covers on the elevator and part of the parking garage, but have you seen all 4 sides of this building? Blank. This is the second review and still the west-facing wall is blank despite the Staff telling them to fix it. This City takes it up the ass. yes we are the red headed step fudgeing child. Bleeehhhhhh.

A lot of it came down to how much a city would give Amazon. Glad we didn't bend over and take it from them. Pittsburgh makes sense though as they have a large tech presence and Carnegie Mellon there. Google has a good sized office there.

Wait how do you know the City didn't bend over and take it? OEP won't share that info. It says at the bottom of that proposal page on the OEP website: "What You Won’t Find: Given the fact that a Florida community is still in the running to land Amazon’s second headquarters, the state of Florida economic incentive information has been redacted to protect the on-going competitive nature of the project as per section 288.075, Florida Statutes."

Per @Mark Baratelli/The Daily City, Foxtail is going to open up shop in the One Orlando Centre building.

Quick moves by the new San Diego based firm that scooped up OOC, BoA and Citrus Center from Cousins.

They'll now have a Foxtail in two of their buildings but I would think a location at Citrus Center would violate Dunkin' Donuts contract

Co-Founder Alex Tchekmeian neither confirmed nor denied the location, telling The Daily City, "At the moment, we cannot confirm that a Foxtail Coffee is going in the Wells Fargo building in the North Quarter. We will be announcing a few additional locations soon but none of which are in Wells Fargo."

  11. Back to food trucks, that food truck lot looks amaaaaazing. I think it will be mind-numbingly successful. A bar, kids area, shaded seating, rotation of trucks... It's a hangout. It's gonna be gold. And I agree with whoever said it: the street food scene got a bad rap once a lot of crap trucks came in and offered poor quality and high prices and no real meaningful connection to the orlando food scene and the restauranteurs helping to make it awesome. Now many (not all!!) are just showing up to events and serving their $8 lunch menu for $12.. When you disrespect your guests they won't return. I've seen it month after month in Orlando. I think the scene can bring back burned-out fed up customers, but it will take the industry taking a hard look at the food that's being served and the prices being charged and making sure a good value is bring presented. Or they'll just go to this awesome food truck lot and the events will disappear for good. Either way, the guests have to come first. Learning that potentially a bit too late.

  12. There's a church in sodo that hires police with signage that escort church members across busy Orange Ave. If Enzian is excused from providing parking on their own land that's great financially for them. A few cops stopping traffic to let theatregoers cross from First Watch to Enzian would be a nice compromise.
