  1. "Booze-less bar on tap for booming Nashville neighborhood"

A high-end tea company is opening a tea bar in the 12 South neighborhood, right next to Burger Up. Firepot Tea Bar will sell made-to-order drinks, loose leaf teas, tea pots, and other tea paraphernalia.

  2. Some Mt. Juliet residents are a bit perturbed by two proposed multi-unit housing developments.

Northtown Village is a mixed-use proposal that would include 256 apartments, and the Villas of Tuscan Gardens may have as many as 313 townhomes on 50 acres. A group of residents, however, are voicing opposition, citing concerns about traffic.

It seems to me that this part of the city has been largely overlooked by developers, at least when you compare it to the city's core and the counties to the South (i.e., Williamson and Rutherford). I don't think if I were a resident of Mt. Juliet I'd be too eager to scare away people willing to pour money into the area. Granted, I'm not especially familiar with Mt. Juliet, so I have no idea how bad the traffic there is...

  3. "Exclusive: New Nashville restaurant partnership plans top-secret project"

Two of the area's most renowned chefs, Austin Ray (ML Rose, The Sutler, Melrose Billiards) and Jason Brumm (Watercolors, 30A, Radius 10, Strategic Hospitality), are teaming up for something "huge."

According to the article, we'll "have to wait until later in the month for details."

I think I've said this before, but at the risk of repeating myself, I think that Federal Building is a fine example of Eisenhower era architecture, which is at that awkward stage where it's out of fashion but not old enough to look historic.  Give it a couple of decades and it will come into its own as a respected style.  They could do something more interesting in terms of land-/streetscaping.  That church across the street has amazing landscaping even though they have only a couple of tiny strips about 2 feet wide.

I may be too hard on the federal building. I guess my issue is that, unlike other older buildings along Broadway (e.g., Union Station, the Frist Center, Christ Church Cathedral, the Customs House, etc.), I don't feel like the federal building contributes much architecturally. But I'm totally willing to admit it's probably just a matter of taste.

And we can all agree that the "Lifeway and its ugly suburban parking lot," as Nathan_in_DC so aptly put it, needs to go.

Anyone aware of any plans for the existing Holiday Inn on 10th? Seems like this is ripe for a remodel or tear-down once they get this one opened up.

Something certainly needs to be done. It's a travesty that two of the first buildings you see when driving into the downtown on Broadway is that hotel on the left and the hideous federal building on the right. I'd personally like to see them both go and make way for developments that are eye-catching in a good way.

^^Not sure what I think about the "re-imaging" of downtown.  I'm hopeful they're just testing things out to eventually come up with a more permanent solution.  It takes me back to really wishing they could make a Paris-style cafe district along 1st Ave, facing the river, which would pull more people down that way and help ease crowding along Broadway.  Also...I really believe 5th and Broadway can help with overcrowding as well.

All in all...I'm glad they're at least looking at ways to improve things downtown and being a little proactive.

Yeah, in my opinion the concept is better than the execution. That color scheme in the second photo is questionable, to say the least.

But like you, I appreciate the effort being made to make the downtown a friendlier place for pedestrians.
