  1. http://www.jchs.harvard.edu/sites/jchs.harvard.edu/files/rr07-14_obrinsky_stein.pdf I tried to dig up some facts and came across this piece. It's rather biased in dispelling myths against multi-family housing development and may be outdated (2007), but I found it interesting.
  2. Multi family < restaurants/bars Is there any reason to be happy about living near a planned multi family development? I can only assume it brings worse traffic to an already busy area. Somebody give me a reason to be happy about this plan (I'm persuadable). Maybe they'll have a pool? Also - Ricky Davis fan, all I could find was one mention of it in the Charlotte business journal, in which they mentioned expecting community pushback. How does that work? Is there a precedent of neighborhood pushback actually cancelling a development? I wonder if Randolph Park is torn down and replaced with a Target if it won't be a big change?
  3. Any discussion of the Randolph Park Apartments being torn down and replaced by a Target? I haven't heard anything lately and was just curious if there were any updates from those of you "in the know". Also - odd question - what's the deal with all of the Masonic temples in the neighborhood? Do they have a long history? Is there any precedent of these organizations ever selling and relocating when property values rise? We've got 3 lodges within a mile in Cotswold (Excelsior near Craig Ave, Joppa on Sharon Amity, Scottish Rite on Randolph) and with property values increasing I think they are prime lots. They're only utilized once or twice a month for their super secret handshake meetings. I want them to sell and build more restaurants/bars.
  4. Great ideas shared! Thanks for the input.
  5. Does anyone have a particular route they would advise to spend a Saturday riding the Light Rail to breweries? I'm interested in parking somewhere, hopping on the rail to to as many breweries as possible, then calling ride home. Just an all-day casual romp to see as much as I can. It may be sacrilegious to admit among this group, but I've never ridden the light rail and figure this would be a neat way to do it. Apologies if there was already some knowledge shared, but the thread is 58 pages long and figured it would be easier to ask. Thanks in advance!
  6. So I've gathered that the Target may be built where the Randolph Park apts currently sit and the Starbucks will join from across the street - is that right? Will there be any other shops/restaurants as part of that build? IMO - Cotswold is in dire need of a restaurant with some shaded outdoor seating, preferably dog friendly. I was bummed when I heard about the bank on the corner to replace the BP. Why in dire need? Oh just because that's what I would like to do - walk my dog up to a place to sit down and have a beer. I moved recently from Plaza Midwood and I really enjoyed that availability of walking to restaurants. You don't know what you have until you lose it! If nothing comes along I guess I'll just have to invest in the backyard set up, which is seems is the trend for the neighborhood. I guess it's easier for young families to stay home...makes sense as this area seems more family centered.
