    I understand the union trying to make life better for its members ( I was teamsters for over a decade) but I think they might have gone too far. Not only are companies now faced with this extra cost for those employees still producing for them, but the lucrative contracts allow the employees to be vested early and able to retire early and get pensions that are crazy. So now it’s like paying out to people for years , that no longer produce any benefit to the company . In this new age of technology ( AI , robotics, automation) the workers really should think things out a little better, because it’s better to make 30 dollars per hour then nothing when they get replaced with machines that don’t even require a break. That’s why I’m saying, the foreign companies have the edge, Nissan still employs our friends and family right here in Middle Tennessee and they make a better product for less cost to operate. 

    From what I've heard - Nissan (and the other foreign car makers) will very likely have to match the union pay with the same results. I agree that Nissan is better.

  2. I don't think anyone posting here is anti bike lanes or doesn't see the wisdom of adding, where possible/practical bike lanes. Some are simply wanting to see evidence that Nashvillians are using the ones we have (limited as they are) as we spend money on more.  I was under the impression that adding bike lanes was more to replace cars than for recreation. Just me - I'd rather see money for sidewalks first.

    There are 8000 +/- students attending Belmont and I see few riding bikes. Lots walking, lots driving but you'd think they are the demographic (along with Lipscomb and Vandy students and workers) that would be filling our streets with bikes.

  3. I've lived in 12South/Belmont for nearly 12 years and walk it every nice afternoon, usually at rush hour. I see maybe 1-2 commuters on bikes a day. Recreational biker riders, yes, but not even a lot of those.  Many of the side streets are too narrow and our sidewalks to crappy in many areas for safe bike riding.  I see lots of walkers, even a few with groceries. I don't see many riders on my drives into (or back from) downtown along 12th and never have. No bias involved, just I don't see them and I'm certainly looking for them. Belmont and 10th have somewhat protected designated bike lanes, rarely used beyond recreational users. No bias, just stating what I see.

    For what it's worth - I flew out last Tuesday morning, getting to the airport at 5am and had no issues. My Uber driver said he sees most issues on Sundays/Mondays. A coworker flew out last Thursday morning with no issues as well.

  5. I think the reality is that there are no quick fixes or even decent short term fixes. From my experiences, it's dropping off departing passengers that's creating most of the issues. Having one central screening point may not have been best - long term. Every departing passenger expects to be dropped off at the "front door" and no one seems capable of getting out of an Uber, with their bags, in less than 5 minutes....

    I would say because nobody is looking to build a new racetrack. This is an existing track, an existing use and the proponents of the project are looking to renovate and improve upon something that already exists. 

    Maybe I'm not understanding the proposals, but it looks like they essentially will have rebuilt the track when they are done.

    I think that has a whole lot to do with it.
