  1. I was there a few hours ago and asked one of the brewers I know about this. They haven't "scrapped" the idea, per se. The city, in plan review, told them that based on the large second story deck, they had to sprinkle and back flow the entire new project. Apparently, they are now reworking the plans.
  2. Jonathan Wells wrote a quick piece on the new Lenny Boy space. I noticed they have wine, but I don't think they have food. I wonder how they managed to get around the food laws and requirements we were talking about a few days ago.
  3. Is this public information? How are you able to see the plans?
  4. Pretty sure they don't have a kitchen. Are you sure about the food requirement? Interesting.
  5. It sounds like you are tired of playing Altbier "Roulette". (Couldn't help myself after that OMB ad campaign)
  6. I didn't realize it was such a council of elders on this forum. I personally like going to Sycamore earlier in the week, when it is slower - mostly based on my work schedule - but who doesn't like young girls partying in sundresses? Kidding aside, the thing I have always liked is the quality of the beer, even with the outrageous number of new beers they push out. That being said, the barrel aged stuff is my real go-to. My two cents.
  7. It's pretty amazing that Sycamore's beer variety is dipping so low. The demand for their beer must be crazy when you consider how many more and bigger tanks they have than some of the others and they still are running light on choice. How many beers do the other breweries typically keep on tap? It's funny that when Sycamore dipped to OMB levels of choice they received this attention. I know Triple C has good choice and Wooden Robot seems to. How about the others like Sugar Creek or NoDa?
  8. I wondered the same thing last time I was at Sycamore and one of the brewers told me that they are literally being drunk dry, even after seriously expanding their capacity. I think they may be looking for a second facility, but I'm not sure. On another note, has anyone heard anything about Fonta Flora's new brewery? I think it is on a farmstead. Pretty cool!
  9. For my 2 cents, I am excited for warm weather beers to start being released. Sycamore's lager that GABF medaled is phenomenal. Wooden Robot has some excellent farmhouse stuff going on and seems to be finally living up to their "urban farmhouse" approach, and Unknown is worth a visit for the occasional small batch gem. I never really leave South End's scene, so I can't speak to much new NoDa stuff.
  10. I thought Blue Blaze was going to be in an old mill... http://www.craftbeer.com/news/brewery-news/blue-blaze-brewing-reveals-historic-savona-mill-as-location-for-new-charlotte-facility This is just a crappy metal building.
  11. Ha. Something funny over arguing about cents... I thought Hop Drop was usually around $13 pre tax. Not too fussed, but just wanted to clarify why I said that.
  12. I'm a big Sycamore and South End beer fan in general and find myself there all the time. I think you're forgetting that everything on Sycamore's board reflects a final price after tax is added. The way it crunches, Peak Farm is actually cheaper than Hop Drop in most places. ...and Cavu doesn't count since it sucks.
  13. Just curious about what made Avenge stand out to you... I checked their Facebook out and it seems like they haven't been active in months. Am I missing something? So many of these breweries in planning come out of the gate making a lot of noise but from what I can tell, opening a brewery is a pretty long process, and most don't seem to have the "stamina". Maybe you saw something I didn't. Prost!
  14. That's interesting. You would think that the South End area is reaching a saturation point and breweries would look at other parts of the city. Any idea which breweries? Startups?
  15. I got into a mild debate last night with a friend regarding which breweries are actually in South End. I think that the little OMB pocket that has developed is actually further South of South End and he disagreed. Does anyone know the correct answer? Thanks, guys.
  16. Fingers crossed they turn the new space into a barrel aging space...
  17. Not trying to start an argument, but do you really think that people in Georgia have heard of Burial? (I love some of their beer, but they are tiny in consideration.) Also, has OMB ever won a medal of consequence? Their beer is so mundane.
  18. Charlotte delivers in a serious way! NoDa, Triple C, Sycamore, and Birdsong bring some amazing beers! Heck, Sycamore did 102 different beers in their first year alone! Triple C has some of the best barrel aged beers I've ever tasted, and NoDa just opened their large facility. What?!?! Plus, Triple C and Sycamore just medaled at GABF! The QC may not be the media darling, but who cares? I'm proud and feel fortunate to drink here!
  19. It is interesting that with such a large commitment in terms of space, they are still going to be on such a small system. Almost every other brewery that I can think of (except Free Range and Heist) have a 15 barrel setup, and they are going to be on a 10 now. Maybe it doesn't matter as much as it seems. Dunno. Anyone able to weigh in?
  20. For anyone trying to introduce their palette or their friends' palettes into craft beer, I suggest Golden Boy from Triple C, Captain Jack from OMB and Southern Girl from Sycamore. I don't personally like CAVU from NoDa, but it is also a lighter option.
  21. I went to Free Range for the first time, as well. I was pretty shocked at the prices. $4 for a 1/2 pint of 3.9% beer?!? Who are they kidding? The ideas are mildly creative, but at those prices, the beer needs to be superb. Sadly, it was not. I'll stick with the other breweries in town who deliver the goods at a fair price.
  22. Right on. I'm just being a curmudgeon. Cheers!
