Couldn't agree more. there was no reason to allow them to not include windows. Even Macy's has windows on the Hillsboro Road side. The store is simply big with no personality and feels like you are inside a big box, which you are.
You would think with all the NIMBYs over in Green Hills they would have lobbied for something more aesthetically pleasing. The most frustrating part is that for not a huge investment they could have done something really cool to the exterior shell (and I guess they still could some day). I mean it is pretty much a blank canvas. And those stupid stripes of brick at the bottom - it looks like a sample/demo mock up. I know design nowadays is dictated by budget but I want to shake the architects who come up with this garbage. Thanks for indulging my rant.

Such a great building! Glad it's being preserved.

Wasn't there supposed to be a screen to cover the hvac units?
I think so. Surely if they went to the expense of installing a railing on the upper mechanical(?) roof (the height of which is only a story or so) they will install one to protect folks from falling off a 30-story tower. Not to mention the purely aesthetic function of obscuring those god awful HVAC units.

This was proposed by the previous owner of the Mall at Green Hills and was to be located where the new parking garage is on Cleghorn.
Oh man! I sure wish we had those instead of a garage.
In related news: Dillard's new GIANT STUCCO BOX is a real disappointment.

That part isn't that bad to look at. It's the little black units that line the edge of the roof that are distracting. I hope those are covered up soon.
I think we're talking about the same thing. Those little black units will soon be covered by a railing system. The same railing system that is already installed and can be seen in the above photo on the upper portion/tier of the roof.

Did you happen to ask how leasing was going?
Also, does anyone know if the garage wall is going to remain a blank, white wall? I imagine it could be a cool project for Nashville Wall's Project
Didn't ask.

I'm so glad to hear this. I love this building but have always thought the HVAC units stick out like a sore thumb and really detract.Me too!

I asked the leasing agents about the visible HVAC units and they told me there will eventually be a railing system installed that's "designed to obscure" them.

H.G. Hill does some great work. I really appreciate what appears to be a commitment to a certain level of quality we don't see too often today. I'm excited to see this one complete.

Furthermore, I wish they'd allow tall buildings close to Broadway. I'm of the opinion that an adjacent structure does nothing to take away from the historic quality of its neighbor. The Hyatt Regency proposal (Sweldering sp) comes to mind. Juxtaposition elevates both the old and new. As much as this liberal loves a government regulation I get so frustrated with historical commissions and the like.

Ugh this visit to Urban Planet has been a roller coaster of emotions! [emoji17]

Basically! What I've seen is essentially that, slightly shinier, and likely has some LEED certification. Haha

I've seen some things...don't get your hopes up. The best we can hope for is a stylish office box on top of a garage on top of retail.

I think a lot of that has to do with its awful white windows. I liken Baker Donelson to the McMansion of urban mid-rise buildings.Okay, this is completely off-topic, but every time I see a photo of downtown in certain daylight, I think the Baker Donelson building looks like a CGI rendering plopped in. It's the shade of the brick or how the windows reflect or something, but it throws me off almost every time.

Pardon my fumbled attempt at humor. I know that's not how those things work, but I had to jump at the opportunity to beotch about it. HahaI don't think that would Nissan's responsibility....but perhaps the Titans could use the money from the deal to do just that. A few little improvements would make the stadium look a bit younger.

I wish Nissan would spring for a fresh coat of paint on the field lights (among other things). That faded red drives me crazy!

I sure wish we still had this beauty! Correct me if I'm wrong but I think one or more of the onion domes fell into the sanctuary space during a wind storm.

I really dislike Honky Tonk Central's orange paint job and I especially despise the white strips of light (a la independent gas station) they have highlighting the ventricle elements on either side of the door at night. That is a great building and it deserves better.

I definitely think it will be more than a box. I recall one description of the building's shape that read something along the lines of "three offset slabs." Essentially, three offset boxes with some fins. I'm optimistic.

I do wish our airport had terrazzo. Although I think BNA is great and I realize carpet is more comfortable under foot, I love me some durable surfaces - especially in something like an airport.

The larger half closer to downtown is the new main MNPD headquarters. The smaller half which is still quite large is going to be Metro's new Family Safety Center, renamed from Family Justice Center. Once opened it will be one of the largest, if not the largest, facilities of its kind. Designed to be a one stop shop, so to speak, for social services. Easier on the people in need and intended to foster collaboration among agencies and local non-profits. I know I will leave some out but there will be the Office of Family Safety, and then satellite locations for the DA's office, police counselors (free), DCS and the like.
