A friend that works for a firm in the Design Center said their company announced a 5 yr lease extension shortly after the purchase. So I'm not sure I would look for a quick flip to all retail

Southpark Mall is getting a FRYE Boots in the Belk wing.
Not sure if anyone has any opinion on if this is a good win, but looks like they are typically in high-end locations, and only currently in NY, Boston, DC, Dallas, Chicago, and Atlanta.
Many women will be very happy. This adds to the list of high end shops at SP

Why doesn't south end adopt more traffic circles? I was trying to turn from Dunavant onto Remount towards Souththe other day and it was near impossible. However, throw a circle in there and traffic flows. I am from a town in Indiana (Carmel) where virtually every intersection has been converted to a circle and it was amazing.

Unreal.
Why do people rent these? Are they people that don't live here full time, but work in Charlotte frequently?
I just can't imagine why anyone that plans to stay long term would pay insane rental amounts when they could buy for much less each month.
I had friends that looked at renting those. They currently live in MP, sold their house and bought a new one in MP but are doing heavy Reno/demo, was a good way to stay close to their current hood. However, proximity was not worth the price and they rented elsewhere.
I think these were originally planned as condos and could flip to them when that market returns.

What about something as grand as this? I know, too many platforms for charlotte, but this is in Berlin. It has a metro area roughly 2.5 times the size of ours, but ours is twice as dense. Charlotte, while it may not be the largest city in the Southeast, could become an important hub for intercity rail, as is Berlin.
The station itself has two levels of platforms, one above ground, and one below. Charlotte could have 3, one below ground for access to NS mainline (would require tons of money), one at ground level for LYNX services and CATS buses, and one above ground for trains to wilmington and Monroe. I personally believe it is one of the nicest looking stations in the world.
Now, if all the plans go through, we could have rail service from Charlotte along 5 routes.
Charlotte --> Raleigh (and North East)
Charlotte --> Atlanta (and Midwest)
Charlotte --> Asheville (via Salisbury)
Charlotte --> Columbia (And FL)
Charlotte --> Wilmington
And some potential Commuter lines:
Charlotte --> Lake Norman/Morresville (If upgraded enough, Asheville bound trains could run on this line)
Charlotte --> Salisbury (NCRR)
Charlotte --> Gastonia
Charlotte --> Monroe
Charlotte --> Rock hill (stretching it?)
My point is, we need something that won't look like a shed, and maybe something a little bit more than a bridge.
There is no better use of a rainy Saturday am than lurking the UP forums and daydreaming about weekend train trips to ILM via a rail hub like that. Le sigh.

Ugg... it has radiator fins. WTF it's not that difficult to decouple the balconys. Maybe they'll put some R-11 paint on 'em.
When will people stop doing stupid stuff? oh well at least they are building these all over the country so they aren't likely to get an architecture award.
Mightbe a stupid question but what's a radiator fin?

If places are going to get this expensive in SouthEnd, they are going to need to redraw school districts, or you will have a bunch of angry folks, as sad as that is.
^ This. If you look at the districts, that 15 home subdivision by Grandfather just off of Marsh and Park, just barely snuck into the preffered district of the $500k+ buyer. Zoning is why we left once we had our first kid. It's a shame because there is so much great development going on in SE and Sedgefield, but choices.

I don’t think you can put enough lipstick on that pig. Tearing it down for this design will be way better. I think we have all become somewhat jaded because we get these beautiful initial renderings and then they get VE’d to death I hope they can stay somewhat true to these.
The interior Stairs remind me of the addition my hometown, Indy, did to their central library in 2007. They kept the original structure dating to the early 1900’s but made it more of a grand entrance. The modern addition in the back is similar to this and has become a community gathering place. It also has become a place for people to hold events. Check this wedding someone had there.
i think this is great and will be an awesome addition to our community.
