I am for a new state of the art stadium, because for the next 10 years after it is built, we are going to get at least 1 Superbowl, 1 NCAA Mens Basketball final 4, a metric ton of college national games. It will turn Charlotte into the Southern City for Football, since Atlanta can't seem to figure that out. Add the ACC HQ here, and you might additional tv station news centers. around it. The stadium will bring in a lot of national investment.
That said, its not worth it to the individual tax payer. It is worth it for the cities national recognition, and additional investment it will bring.
Just wondering, how is it that “Atlanta can’t seem to figure it out”?

I totally agree. When they announced that BJ's was moving into the old HD Design space, I couldn't help but think that Costco would be a better fit there. They had just entered the market a few years prior to that and were the newer west-coast kid in town. I've had memberships previously to both and I really can't remember any appreciable difference because its been so long, but there was always something kinda "your father's Oldsmobile" about BJ's to me. Costco just seemed.... slightly cooler and less utilitarian I guess. I think a Costco there would have pulled more people from Target. Like combined Target/Costco runs.
Well, I’ve done combined BJs and Target runs there for quite a while now. I actually prefer Costco more (for the most part), but BJs was much more convenient to me, which is why I got a membership there. This location closing is disappointing for many reasons.

Yes, a new multi-billion dollar stadium is completely necessary for the exact reasons you mentioned. While hosting a Super Bowl isn’t a necessity as much as it is a bragging right, what it will do for Charlotte and the state economically makes it worth it alone. Not to mention smaller cities than Charlotte are being awarded the Super Bowl and the sole reason we have yet to host is because of the stadium.
If you cannot see a drastic difference in the designs of NFL stadiums under construction/recently built and the current Bank of America Stadium, then you’re delusional. The current stadium looks like a glorified university stadium when looking at Atlanta or Minneapolis’ new stadium. It’s replacement won’t make a skyline shot any less recognizable, either. No one outside of sports fans identify Charlotte by the stadium.
He’s talking about the next decade of stadiums that were built after BoA. It definitely ushered in a new wave of NFL stadium design. That’s why it’s compared to Camden Yards.

Not sure what they average but it does seem like they would have expanded by now. About 25-30k would be ideal

I’m concerned Charlotte’s growth is slowing and other cities are surpassing us. Since I’ve been traveling to other cities this week, The latest being St. Louis, It made me realize Charlotte is behind in a few ways. It might just be anxiety kicking in, But I’m a little concerned that our growth might be slowing, Even though most articles state that our growth is only starting. Side note - St. Louis and Kansas City are both really sprawling with multiple skylines, I hope one day Charlotte can develop several urban centers comparable to those.
So what leads you to believe this?

Damn 3 article limit

I love Charlotte I just find pictures of the Charlotte skyline not as pretty as in person. I think it just needs to be more dense and stretched out. It just doesn’t seem very Urban to me. I apologize for being off topic.
You might be happy in a few decades

I was thinking and Charlotte needs a main attraction Uptown. Washington has the Mall, Atlanta has the Aquarium /CNN Center, Etc. We need a structure, A monument, Anything that can be a meeting place for everyone to go to.
Obviously it’s not recognizable to people outside of CLT, but Romare Bearden Park has pretty much become this to people from the area. Or maybe not, idk. I like it.

Any updates on the Casino near Kings Mountain? Would be good if it went through, especially for that area.
Wrong thread and it ain’t happening any time soon. One thing I actually have a little inside knowledge on. I wouldn’t hold my breath.

You lost me here...he might be a great owner (I have no idea) but I'll never get over him mock-dabbing during our lone 2015 loss. I don't like owners on the sidelines looking for attention. But my hate for the Falcons and Saints is totally irrational...
Disagree. It’s completely rational. Eff em.

I don’t think anyone even cares about the point you’re trying to make and it derailed the thread.

You guys should both drop it. It doesn’t really matter.

This is my neighborhood and I’m all for it. What a blight that property is right now.

It's a historic team, but Clt is a better market than St L, KC, or Milwaukee.
Those teams aren’t going anywhere, especially not the Cardinals.
The Rays or Athletics are the only possible teams to be considered for relocation. Expansion is more likely, from what I’ve gathered.

Honestly, I think the team would leave Charlotte before it built a new domed stadium in the suburbs. A suburban stadium would almost defeat the purpose of why they even want the dome.

So we'd have to host a hell of a lot of Superbowls for taxpayers to reap any meaningful reward
How much have tax payers paid for that past few stadiums like this?

The NCAA is headquartered in Indianapolis, it will always host the Final Four more than other locations.
You honestly think the final 4 would only come to Charlotte once? That’s what the whole post was in response to.
There’s only about 10 stadiums that would be competition to choose from, but it could be here potentially every 8-10 years.

Not attempting to detract from your point, but the super bowl is being played in Minneapolis, followed by Atlanta, Miami, Tampa, and LA (the one was moved to Tampa because of construction delays in LA, otherwise all new stadiums.) Indy hosted SB XLVI and has not yet won a bid for another SB. I’m sure Vegas will be next in line or soon after. Not that I agree with a new stadium, but I feel like the only chance Charlotte has to ever host a SB will be a new stadium. I feel like 2030 is a good goal for a new stadium. IMO any time sooner would be irresponsible for the city.Honestly not sure why I thought that. They hosted it in 2008.
