Missing about ten states based on a quick look at this map, adding the flight to Delaware: https://flynashville.com/flights/nonstop-destinations

    Alabama, West Virginia, Vermont,
Kansas (the KC airport is in Missouri),
    New Mexico, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon,
    Hawaii, and Alaska

That map is unfortunately not accurate. I think it reflects cities that have at one time had a nonstop flight, as there is not currently a nonstop to Portland, Maine, but there was last summer.  It made my annual summer trip to Maine so much nicer not having to fly into Boston last year.

You certainly seem to have a great understanding of the "flattening the curve" concept. I will say, I watched as many local and national press conferences as possible - it was all focused on keeping it below the hospital capacity line and there were promises that the sooner we are comfortable in our ability to manage hospitalizations, the sooner we can ease back into normal. So there are some legit questions over that Nashville, for example, emphatically did not come close to stressing the hospital systems at any point. Most of our hospitals are empty.

While we definitely had a lower census the last couple of weeks, that is no longer the case at VUMC. Yesterday we were at 80% capacity and that was before elective procedures resume tomorrow.

That article is a whole lot of speculation and we don't really know. I mean its not really wrong, the FLU vaccine is a complete guessing game and sometimes it is less than 40% effective.

Everything I've read has said the virus is mutating but pretty slowly compared to many viruses. So again, it is all wait and see, but I don't believe that naturally developing antibodies are uneffective, we just don't know yet how long they last.

Yeah, I think you're saying exactly what the article is saying.  So far, the mutations that are being seen should not hinder a vaccine, but it's definitely wait and see.  And as for immunity after exposure, most seem to think it should last 1-2 years, but again, wait and see.

Do you have links to any of that research? I'm curious in learning more. I know there were some people in China who tested positive after being released from care, but these were thought to have been cases where they were discharged too soon before they truly recovered.

Here's a good explanation of mutation/vaccine research from today's NYT:

It takes me like 5 minutes to get through with pre most of the time. For those that have it, Is this really worth it?

Keep in mind that with only Clear you will still have to remove shoes, liquids, etc.   You'll need Clear and PreCheck if you wan to use the PreCheck line for personal and carryon screening.

RE: Riverside Village.  I don't think retail is required per se.  But you can get a much larger rent out of a store front than just a door with another apartment behind it. And it is zoned for businesses.   Since it is being built 'By-Right' they don't have to release public renderings as they would have with an SP,  so nobody really knows quite yet what it will look like.  My best guess using logic and clues is it will have 3-5 small shop spaces in the bottom floor and the upper floors (2 thru 4) will be apartments.   @AronG Yes, FO the store was never going to be saved, I was referring to the 'FO Building', itself; which the entire strip from the barber shop to FO, started to be referred to for ease of discussion at the meetings.  It was to become the cycle shop and restaurant combo under the proposed SP.  I'm not trying to re-litigate the details of what happened and it's difficult to talk on a message board so let's close this back & forth.  Happy to chat on Facebook about it if you're interested or at the Meet-up May 4th.  Also I agree with your comment on need for density here to allow diff kinds of housing to accommodate people and slow down the musicians fleeing to Madison.

@Gracie Agree with your comments on the loss of housing re: Micro-units, green-space, bus-stop, extended sidewalks.

According to the East Nash FB page it sounds like you're right. 44 residential units with less than 2000 square feet of retail. Not sure if there are renderings anywhere.

In the case of Sevier County, I'm willing to bet that most tourists there stay longer than do tourists in most other Tennessee counties, including Davidson and Shelby.  I'd like to see stats that show how long tourists stay in places.  I think the average tourist probably stays a week or so in Sevier County versus a couple of days in Davidson, although I'm also willing to bet that a week in Sevier County still costs less for the average tourist than a couple of days in Nashville, particularly if business travelers are included as "tourists."

I think you're forgetting the thousands of tourists that come to Sevier County on a daily basis just to go to Dollywood and then drive the 1-4 hours back home.

The Riverside Village situation was a bit more complex than just ‘the petitioners got what they deserved’. They basically threw away having any say in the McGavock frontage to get their way on the other 4 lots involved that are on Riverside (that needed the UpZone approval).  So they achieved enforcement of  a lower density for those lots instead of the apartment complex that was included in the SP.

I just think it was a shame a compromise couldn’t be reached.  Seemed they were getting fairly close towards the end. The developer certainly made lots of concessions towards a compromise. Oh well!  Can’t wait to be able to get 14 flavors of frozen yogurt and visit the Capital one Bank that will probably occupy the ground floor of this new place.

Are you sure there will be ground floor retail?  My concern is we'll get one of those hideous Trinity Lane complexes with no retail component, which would be a shame in the heart of the "village".

Sure thing. I wish we had Lebanese joints down here, they're EVERYWHERE in Metro Detroit. They always load you up on very thin pitas with a spread/sauce/magic called Toum, too. WHEW.

Maybe not as casual as what you're seeking, but for great Lebanese food we do have Epice.

Efgefield Sports Bar and Grill has been bought and their lease isn’t being renewed. They’ll be closing in April and I’d expect that that building to be torn down rather than rehabbed. Sad news for the east side.

I'm so sad about this.  There isn't a better place to throw darts and the bar staff have always been first rate.  I never even minded that I reeked of smoke when I left.

  11. Regarding the development in Riverside Village, a facebook post from councilman Davis:

Riverside and McGavock UPDATE: At this time, the applicant is withdrawing the request to move forward with the SP, and will build by right with their base zoning.

Although there was both support and opposition, being a community plan amendment AND a zoning change, the consensus support needed for the project did not materialize and facing potentially another deferral at planning commission, the applicant is withdrawing. I fully support and encouraged this, without consensus, planning staff and commission also would not support, especially with needing a community plan amendment. Thus, it just doesn't make sense to move forward.

I personally liked certain aspects of going the SP route, namely: Control of the parcels, and knowing exactly what we are getting, keeping the scale to one story and saving the McGavock building, sidewalk extension up Riverside to 2324, locking in zero AirBnb for the multi-family aspect in perpetuity, and commitment of double the required tree density returning to the site. There was an outside chance of Fond Object and the owners working something out for leasing the Bailey and Cato building, but I don't know if that would have materialized anyway (just in my conversations with both parties there). That could have been a nice compromise had it been feasible.

The big question I know you all have is what will happen going forward? I only can pass along what the owners told me: They would likely soon tear down the McGavock building, design and at some point build a new 3-story building on McGavock, with either retail ground floor and apartments above, or all apartments. The parcels behind on Riverside Drive, could be subdivided administratively at the planning department to potentially 7-8 houses, to be determined. I got the sense from my conversation with the owner, that the Riverside parcels maybe would be something to look at Phase 2, in other words, start on McGavock. Anything related to the building on McGavock would be approved administratively at codes. Anything regarding a subdivison on Riverside Drive would happen administratively at planning, or would potentially have a planning commission hearing (would not come to Council).

I appreciate so much everyone attending meetings, and I hope going at this a 2nd time didn't seem like a big "time waster." I wouldn't have brought it forward if I didn't think going the route of an SP was a valid alternative to the chips falling where they may with a base zoning build. I know in the end, we will get a good product, and we will all still love going there and hanging out there. I truly believe we will, and our growth in the area will be positive. I will continue to help working on any and all issues in Riverside Village, parking challenges for example that will undoubtedly come up, and anything else I can help with. (I'd like to push harder for an arrow/delay mechanism on the McGavock traffic light as another example). If you made it this far, thanks for being an engaged citizen of our great Inglewood! Happy to answer any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected].

Any estimates for the crowd size Tuesday night for USMNT and El Tri?  See you there.

As of yesterday, Steven Goff, soccer writer for the WP, tweeted that 31,000 had been sold.  There is a great deal of unhappiness at the high ticket prices for a friendly,  $55 for upper-level corner, $85 behind the goal, $125-400 for lower-section sideline .

Why? I don’t owe them anything, it’s their job to impress me.

If it was just the food wasn’t great (it was thoroughly bad) it would be understandable, but their staff was hostile and devious and the place wasn’t sanitary. My wife found a pube in her burrito and they tried to secretly charge us for it knowing why we sent it back. Why would I ever go back to a restaurant like that?

Sounds like a bad experience, for sure.  Despite your unfortunate experience, Graze turned into a truly exceptional restaurant that this vegetarian greatly appreciates. I'm glad they worked out those early kinks you experienced.

  14. I think it's possible to exaggerate in either direction.  30 years ago I was a 19-year-old Vandy undergrad with a fake ID and I thought downtown was amazing.  Dancing several nights  a week at The Urban Lounge on Second Avenue, eating lunch at Windows on the Cumberland watching barge launches, shopping for great rugs at the salvage stores south of Broadway.  Yes we've come a long way, but nostalgia for the Nashville of 30 years ago, even downtown, is not all misplaced in my opinion.  I'd gladly trade the pedal taverns for the adult bookstores and honky tonks of the '80's.

  15. I drive Davidson to and from work every day.  I actually love the industrial vibe.  Of course, I also love Dickerson and what's left of its grittiness.  I'm not worked up enough about it to complain on the EN FB page, but I will miss it when it's gone.
