  1. The Vyne's website is now fleshed out a bit. I had thought this was going on the opposite side of Central - but I guess Tuscan hasn't released any info on their site yet. The site plan doesn't get me particularly excited, but I like the park on the corner. One positive note from Dougie's article is that they hope to move the old Plummer house rather than junking it.
  2. That's quite a bit of activity around your site ... formulating any plans yet?
  3. What are the chances that their deal w/ Barclays will happen? I remember talk 'round these parts about BofA and Barclays ... a financial M
  4. They would be in Commonwealth Park; Briar Creek runs under Commonwealth Ave just past the sub station (heading nw). I don't think Plaza Midwood would claim anything south of Central - though many home sellers/real estate agents make the claim.
  5. If you're referring to the new development, then no, I don't think they do - or at least it hasn't come up here.
  6. Could that possibly have been just an exercise for Graham as it is just 3ac of ~30? Or are they really dividing the planning between that many firms? Either way - it looks great!
  7. Re: Industry 29 condos @ Briar Creek and 74 They thought they had the correct zoning in place - they didn't, so now they are going up for a rezoning to UR-2(CD). I don't see the surrounding neighborhood fighting this too much given what the site looks like now. The petition is here.
  8. I have heard that it is the busiest Sbucks in town by a wide margin; so the close proximity may just give them breathing room.
  9. Did anyone attend the Civic by Design forum hosted by AIA Charlotte last Tuesday for the Central Ave area? I think the emphasis was to study the infrastructure and how to improve it with the goal of maintaining/enhancing the international flavor.
  10. The site bound by Tryon, Stonewall, College & E Hill St.
  11. I can say with certainty that something is going on on this site, but I have no idea who is behind it. So far just preliminary site investigation.
  12. Them are some funky apartments! They even have a website: Epi Apartments
  13. As unfortunate as it is, I think a gas station is a must on that corner (as apparently our little corner of the world will never get any mass transit). I've seen them well designed in some communities; perhaps they will try to appeal to the high-rollers in the Morningside development and put in something that looks nice and functions well. Now if someone could do something with the apartments directly accross Commonwealth from the Circle K - They look worse every day w/ mold and decay.
  14. As I understand it the renovations would cost more than 40k, which is the cut-off point for work in a floodplain - so they are really in a catch 22. I have heard that the flood mapping for Briar Creek in that area is under review and the adjustments may free them up to do the work, but it's a time consuming process. I have not seen anyone moving out of the Morningside Apts, which is puzzling to me. The deadlines just keep getting pushed back.
  15. New Development in the works at Briar Creek Road Ramp - Parcel 12907416 Hat tip to my neighbor for this info: John R. Poore Builders 29 townhouse units style is described as "industrial-chic"; exposed ductwork in loft-type spaces, etc. designed by Narmour-Wright Architects each unit consists of entire space from ground to roof (2-3 floors, i.e. split-level?)....built-in garage, then a 300 sf "recreational rooftop entertaining space" with trellised plantings atop each unit first-floor skin is all glass size ranges from 1200 sf priced @ 280K (that works out to $233/sf !), to 1500 sf priced @ 308K ($205/sf) http://industry29.com - not much here yet
  16. I'm surprised that someone hasn't mentioned this already - or maybe on a different topic and I missed it ... but, in the CBJ from the 15th the front page story suggests/hints/threatens that Grubb may scale back his Elizabeth plans b/c of the MTC's decision on the streetcar. Apparently Grubb, CPCC and Presby Hospital are getting together to lobby/pressure the city on the ridiculous schedule for this line. I can't link the article b/c it's for paid subscribers.
  17. About a year ago Nichols had quite a few listings in the $12-15psf - I guess the recent boom and the promise of the Morningside development has helped to propel that up to what you found.
  18. Since we're dreaming ... I'd love to see a Maoz restaurant; they were my favorite lunch stops when we lived in Amsterdam. They only have one store in the states now - in Philly, but they are ramping up their operations, so I imagine it will only be a matter of time. Very hip, trendy, green and delicious. On another green note; this area needs a bike shop - I can't imagine that they are real money makers that could handle high rents, but there is nowhere in the Central Ave district to get your bike fixed or buy simple parts.
  19. AutoWerks is no longer empty ... it's gone. They're in there today hauling off the remnants. I suspect there may be some environmental issues at this site that will have to be cleaned up.
  20. I think Voyager's talking about Charlotte Energy Solutions at Baldwin and Luther. I haven't been in there yet, but it looks inviting.
  21. I echo these sentiments. I also remember seeing some renderings for this corner many months ago with a 4-5 story mixed-use - lower level retail, somewhat conservative, brick design. I'd like for whatever goes here to be unique - Commonwealth is such a cool street (of course I live on it). Any chance of picking up the Camera World corner? (love the store, the building not so much)
  22. Those power/utility lines in front of Central27 look awful! I don't suppose we can hope that they get buried?
