Had dinner st Smoking Butts BBQ for the first time tonight  and it  was really good. Food and service. The old Wild Wings is such a cool building. The upstairs was not open, but looked ready for live music.

Hey, I just finished eating there now!  I had the chicken plate (which includes hot links homemade sausage and pulled pork, plus a side and cornbread).   Very good and I committed borderline gluttony XD

Several factors are at play, I believe.

    • More and more grocery chains are consolidating or being bought out by larger chains.
    • With razor-thin margins, grocers want to locate their stores in markets with high HH income.   Cedar Springs is growing, yes, but the overall demographics (HH income) is weak.
    • The Cedar Springs Shopping Center has been marginal for a long time.  Its begging for a strong anchor.

If only Harris-Teeter were considering a Spartanburg comeback...

I'm hearing car wash in the rumblings of social media.

My understanding is Starbucks between Hardee's/Walgreen's and Charlie's and a car wash at the former Rite Aid.

They've also been working on the former Bi-Lo.  Another grocery store (hoping a Lowe's Foods???)?

Does anyone know what’s going on with Zen Ramen and Sushi Burrito on East Main? No activity for several months.

Hopefully just a hold-up...very excited about this place!

Smoking Butts BBQ (in the former Wild Wing) has signage up now.  Looks like they could open pretty soon.

Also, The Tulip Tree will reopen on August 2, after being closed for about 2 months for repairs to their building.

I hate to admit, but I just realized this is the same group as the SBH restaurant on Pelham Road near I-85.  I have heard great things!

Looks like all of the Internal Affairs Art gallery signs are gone from the windows and the space is vacant.    Don't know if it was just a short term lease or what.  I do hope they find something better....

I thought I saw an article where another restaurant was going in, but I haven't seen any more information on that since.

Cocobowlz is looking at two possible locations, both downtown. Their hope is to launch within two weeks of signing their lease. All the more power to them!

That's awesome!  I'm guessing one would be more East and one more West but just my speculation 🙂

  7. Restaurant/foodie news!

Duncan is now home to Spartanburg County's newest Wingstop location and will soon get a Biscuitville location (one of the first in SC!).  Greer will also get Biscuitville, and Duncan also recently added Tipsy Taco and Vida Taco (street tacos in the former Deno's).  Game Day BBQ also now sells alcohol and is having trivia and other social events.

Not a restaurant, but a convenience store called Swift Stop is locating at the Fairforest Road exit at Business I-85 (formerly BP/Fast Phil's).  This looks to be an upgrade from the former and on par with QT, Spinx, 7Eleven and the newer Circle K stores possibly with more food options.  Also, Four Points Spartanburg now has specialty coffee daily until 10am at Brew'd Awakenings (and Oak 1831 has recently updated their breakfast and dinner menus).

Over in Inman, Southern Fuel Coffee and Eats has opened in front of Food Lion in the former Construction Zone Subs next to Verizon and Great Clips (Southern Fuel is also set to open a location in Boiling Springs next to M Fresh Asian Fusion and Cocobowlz).

Landrum and Chesnee are going to be adding coffee shops (along with upcoming breweries Stubborn Mule and Outside Influence, respectively) - Landrum has Cardinal Coffee & Bistro coming soon with Mozza Roasters coffee and soon Hershey's ice cream (most probably on the ice cream).  Chesnee will be adding Eagle's Nest Coffee and Creamery, probably in the former Ice Cream Barn (vendors unknown; Tiered Cake Studio is also looking into adding a coffee shop in Chesnee).  Landrum (Campobello) also has a new Mexican restaurant - Mr. Juan's.  It is in the former Big Glenn's Grill and Bronco.

La Choza has opened at the former Junction/Quincy's at Hearon Circle; it is Central American cuisine (not Mexican as was previously thought by many) with a bar and pool tables.  The Holiday Inn across from it will also soon open a restaurant called Toast 2 Toast, serving breakfast and dinner (opening date TBD/TBA).

Pierre's has opened a new location in the former Corona on McCravy Drive (at Pinewood across from Wade's).  Great soul food!  The Monarch Cafe is also still being used for pop-up and private events as well as cooking classes.  Nearby, the Mist and Smoke Lounge has opened on Whitney Road on the other side of 585 from the former Spaced Out/Quincy's.  I have heard great things and happened to meet one of the staff while having car repair done!  It seems to be a step up from the couple of places that were there before.

LemonTree Thai Cuisine next to Walmart Neighborhood Market in Cedar Springs is crushing it, especially with their green curry and drunken noodles!

Very exciting how both Spartanburg and our Upstate region are becoming a food lover's heaven and haven!

I agree! Anytime I visit a new City, the tall buildings are what I look for. I think that is what gives a City its feel of significance. Of course, not

all Cities need tall buildings to give a feel of importance, but it sure helps.

Charleston is an example and exception for sure.

A narrow Church street would be fantastic!

I concur with that!  Something else that recently dawned on me.  Spartanburg needs more tall buildings (I know, the market needs to be there with more white-collar jobs coming).  I'm realizing that a Downtown with more buildings around it feels more intimate, comforting to visit and ironically more inviting/welcoming.  I'm not the only one who thinks this, am I?  Albeit keep the streets and buildings tree-lined (not like Columbia, which I love for its walkability among other things but there is way too much exposed sky there).

I know this is probably not "new" news to peeps here, but...

ISLA'S ON THE SQUARE coming to the former  GROWLER HAUS location, bringing us:

"COASTAL KITCHEN - COCKTAILS - OYSTER BAR"

    That is all.

    Isla.jpg

I have heard great things!  Can't wait to check them out when they open.

Saw in UBJ's CRE transactions article that W Square has leased spots to Burrito Hub (known), Hidden Bean (hinted at by @Spartanburg DudeI believe), and Thai Basil.

I love the Burrito Hub's birria tacos and chips with salsa as well as Hidden Bean's cold brew (admittedly it's been awhile since I stopped by both of them).  As a fan of Thai food, I can't wait to also visit Thai Basil for drunken noodles and green curry as well!!

Found a real estate listing for a home in Startex that has a site plan and several aerials of the Startex Mill redevelopment.

This is VERY exciting!!! My parents, grandmother and several of my aunts and uncles (bio and step) worked in Startex Mill through the 80's and 90's up until it shut down.  I'm so glad to see this area getting new life and can't wait to come hang out there whenever I can (walking the trail and supporting the businesses)!

Baskin-Robbins coming to 249 E Blackstock Rd, pending conditional use rezoning approval.

Also, site work has started next to Little Caesar’s on Reidville Rd. (future Shipley’s Donuts). And it looks like Crumbl Cookies on Blackstock is close to opening.

I also understand they are planning a BR for Boiling Springs plus a Starbucks in Cedar Springs (next to Hardee's).

Massive industrial development planned on Hwy 221 between Floyd Road, Police Club Road, and the RR tracks.  Spartan Enterprise Park is ~300 acres with plans for up to 5 buildings and +/-3M square feet.  More/better road connectivity is desperately needed over here, ASAP.

I think even something like Highway 80 through Greer from 29 to 14 would be a great idea.  I even like the idea on a larger scale - start in Chesnee/Mayo through Cowpens, through the Eastside into Clifton, Glendale and Pacolet and through Pauline into Roebuck even.

How you caught the coffee shop when it's not even showing up on their current site is beyond me! Apart from that, a coffee shop there should do great, with Wofford being across their street and their book store right there. The Regional crowd will be able to benefit from it quite well also. Having a place nearby to get away while waiting for results will be a great perk for many.

I have heard great things about Knowledge Perk from friends in the Rock Hill and Fort Mill areas.  When I first saw the PDF though I thought it was for a chicken restaurant :P But I even thought a coffee shop would be a good fit there before I found out about this, so yay!

    That is disappointing. QT?

I'd have rather seen a new, upgraded larger Star Lanes with perhaps some laser tag, escape rooms, a large arcade and even indoor mini-golf (plus a larger food menu).  Or Spare Time could have opened a location.

I've heard Circle K and QT both.

I may have missed it, but does anyone know what is going into Royce Camps building besides SmallCakes across from the AC Hotel?  it is being up-fitted for a restaurant, but I can't remember if one has been named.

I know it's been awhile since the announcement but wasn't Konnichiwa (hibachi and sushi) going to locate there?

Bringing the renderings to the new page.

The former bowling alley is owned by an LLC out of Pittsford, NY, so who knows.  That's a big parcel for just a gas station.

Those are probably just generic business names.  They often do that in marketing images.  Whereas, Burrito Hub is their actual logo.

    Good to know!

As for the Star Lanes property...I think it would be cool and a great fit if SpareTime or a similar type place located there.
