  1. Why doesn't paypal just set up shop instead in York or Lancaster counties? They would still be able to pull talent from Charlotte they were trying to attract in the first place.  Added bonus of NC jobs leaving for SC but still in the metro.  Win-win for everyone ( at least for CLT )

  2. I may have stumbled on another future Publix location:

Current rezoning up for the Highland Creek/Prosperity area near the future Prosperity Church relocation and 485 and across the street from Highland Creek Teeter.  Residential component is also included (275 units).

Petitioner is Halvorsen Development Corporation which is currently developing the Publix in Cornelius.

Another hint is that Publix is notorious for doing diagonal parking at their grocery stores.

  3. Just a few updates:

Academy Sports is close to opening at the corner of Concord Mills BLVD and Derita

Carolina Ale House is coming soon to that intersection as well.

There are a ton of apartments being built additionally to the Bexley Village community.

  4. This news in the Observer came out of nowhere, "Tanger plans to build Charlotte outlets at the corner of Steele Creek and 485. I certainly would have thought that some rumors would have floated around before the CO went public with the info.

The new Tanger for Charlotte will employ 300 workers during construction and around 900 full and part time positions once the center is open. That's a pretty good amount of jobs.

  5. In other U City news the Mecklenburg Times is reporting that Hobby Lobby, Marshalls, World Market, PetSmart, Old Navy, Shoe Carnaval and Ulta are going into new space adjacent to Ikea.

This is going to totally gut most of the other strip centers in the area.

I have been wondering for the longest time what was going to be built over there. I too hope that some other retail moves into these soon to be vacant spaces, compare foods anyone?

  6. Just wanted to mention that the Hounds finished up their season on Saturday night to a crowd of just over 6,000 (the fiance and I being two of that number). For the season, the Hounds averaged 5,700 over 7 games, which was good for 4th overall in the league. I'd say it was a very successful inaugural season for the team (the Ohio franchise, which also entered the league this year with Charlotte, averaged just 3,500).

  7. ^As far as I know, the construction plans for the two blocks of parking deck-wrapped apartments have been approved. I'll be happy when Bascom finally connects directly to 7th Street, instead of having to do the Ranier-Weddington zig-zag.

Ah, thank you. I wasn't sure what was going on until I looked at the Development map and put two and two together. It looks like it will be a good size development.

  8. Oh I'm talking from Old Concord to Tom Hunter where the BLE will actually run in the middle of...there's construction signs everywhere for it.

It has been awhile since I have been down that far. I agree with you that it doesn't make much sense to repave that section of tryon, only to tear it up when the Blue Line comes through. On a side note, I think they should just repave all of tryon, that road looks like a quilt of temporary pot-hole repairs.

  9. I was driving on North Tryon and I noticed that there are signs perhaps for a repaving...but that got me thinking, why repave that section of North Tryon if CATS is going to tear it up by building the BLE in a few years? The pavement maybe isn't good as on roads in South Charlotte, but there aren't any pot holes and major cracks along that stretch. I find this to be bureaucratic and wasteful.

The section I know they are paving is North of Mallard Creek Church. The Blue Line would turn off well before and enter UNCC.

    • Walton’s total compensation will increase to $257,698...
    • Tom Murray, the new chief executive of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, has a salary of $275,000 plus an $8,000-a-year car allowance...
    • Michael Smith, the president of Center City Partners, which depends on city-collected property tax money, was given a $62,000 bonus a year ago. That raised his total compensation to roughly $300,000...
    • A year ago, Mecklenburg County Manager Harry Jones’ total compensation was just shy of $300,000...

Market rate or not, these salaries, IMO are vastly over-bloated. These people should be fairly compensated and I'm OK with it being six figures, but these type of salaries are ridiculous. They are an entity that functions on taxpayer dollars, it is not the private sector.

I'll save the city/county/CCP money and do any one of these jobs for $100,000. :whistling:

  10. Here is a quick rundown of the economic development in Charlotte for the past month:

Time Warner Cable- hiring 100 in its Ballantyne office.

    Quicken Mortgage-hiring 75.

    Quicken Loans-hiring 50.

United Technologies-hiring 325 over 5 years and creating a HQ for its aerospace systems business.

Perinatal Comfort Care-moving HQ here from SC.

Vermop (which is a German janitorial company) is putting its US HQ here.

    MSC Industrial-hiring 400 by end of 2017 and putting a co-HQ
