  1. Vintage clothing store Buffalo Exchange is opening in the old pura vida spot. They have great stuff, can do swaps or sell clothes. It will be interesting to see how they will impact Hong Kong and Century across the street. BE is a chain and until now PM has been pretty indie otoh...Penguin which used to define the local neighborhood vibe is going franchise so I guess times are a changin
  2. That's good news. Surprising. I have never shopped there with more than two other customers. And AA has been thisclose to bankruptcy for awhile. The camden layout is nice though, sp's is so cramped. The pants and jeans are ridonkolously overpriced Basic tees are worth it to me though, they last awhile.
  3. SC Pride in Columbia got approval to hang rainbow flags down their main drag adjacent to the festival. I wonder if a similar display could hang along Tryon?
  4. That's great news! The downside to last year was the sequestered hidden away feeling. The upcoming location is much more central and visible. Plus Disco Chicken!
  5. The rehabbed Diamond is open, under the ownership of the former management from The Penguin. Going to try and make it there this wkd. Anyone been yet? Looked packed as I have gone by during peak times. By contrast Penguin Corp has looked much less busy.
  6. I liked SK, it was unique. In better economic times E ave could be a great mixed use urban block. Will get there someday.
  7. Another club is disappointing. The area along the tracks is destined to be a party zone so Lux will fit in to it's surroundings. There seems to be a tipping point approaching with so many bar/clubs and salons. These are all silo destinations and don't contribute to the urban retail enviro and street life. During the day the clubs are lifeless and salons are not much better. CCP markets Southend as a zone focused on mixed use but bars seem to be the dominating influence. Maybe it's just what sells in today's economy. Just don't want the area to morph into an extension of Uptown's scene. The alt laid back vibe is not gone yet but it's not looking good right now. I really hope they don't move down onto Camden and put bars along there. Leave a little something resembling an actual neighborhood.
  8. Might as well go with Salonend and be done with it. I am sure they are nice places ( I just go to supercuts). You can't fill an afternoon shopping in Southend yet but its a perfect place to change hairstyles block by block.

  10. I think a pizza place could work there. We don't need anymore bar/grills. Menchies Froyo is going into the old Lotus space. CLT is having a yogurt craze all over town, but that is a tough location. The parking is hidden. Divine Cupcakes and Frozen Yogurt in LP never seems busy.
  11. And when funding does arise it's very easy to build over parking and greenspace.
  12. Hmmm... maybe there is no money for an expansion anymore and this their plan B. A shame they could not have re-leased the old EBG building. Also was told that Sole is now closed.
  13. Glad this topic was bumped up.....CMC has fenced off their block on East, looks like plans for demo. Anyone heard more? Glad they are not knocking down Caribrueggers and the apt building too. At least for now.
  14. Given the DNC is ours now, we have an opportunity and obligation to push for LGBT inclusion in local marketing efforts and publicity.
  15. About to leave jury duty after escaping a jury box by getting an impartial excuse from the judge. PHEW!!!! Anyhow the gay news site Qweerty is blocked by on the county wifi with a porno excuse. Idiotic because it's not obscene. In contrast JoemyGod another mainstream gay blog is not blocked. So "queer" is considered porn by the censor program on the county network. Who runs it? Bill James? Lol
