  1. Some proxy observations: The CLT website pre-warned everyone that this closure and all of it’s contingencies we’re going to occur. Subsequently Hurricane Ian probably figured into the beginning of this announced 2 week period so I wouldn’t be surprised if the closure extends after this Thursday.  Here, all this time we’ve all assumed that the bulk of CLT biz was hub related. Looks to me like a lot more people are beginning or ending their trip in Charlotte. That should help sell the need for the Silver Line! Those videos of snarled traffic sure make a solid argument for rails to the airport!

  2. I certainly believe and support the concept of hiring minority sub-contractors ( it appears to have worked well at ATL) like Mr. Peebles is touting and I realize that part of being a developer is a "fake it til you make it" attitude. I would love to see this project happen.....but I don't think it will.

  3. I flew into Charlotte for a quick visit a few weeks ago. I had planned to park my rental at a park and ride lot on Woodlawn so I could ride the Blue Line but there was not one single car in the parking lot and I didn't feel like leaving a car that I was responsible for in that unguarded, empty lot (and it was a weekday). SO I drove downtown with the same plan for the streetcar. Well, instead of riding on the streetcar I just drove the route. After 10 minutes of crawling behind the streetcar I got out of that long slow line and just drove the route myself. The streetcar looks ultra modern and the route is certainly capable of attracting riders i.e. JCSU, CPCC, Square, Gov. Center, Novart, but the lack of priority to the streetcar makes it seem a very safe ride at Carowinds that people use when they want to avoid a daredevil ride. I wish the city luck in improving this dilemma but it's gonna be an uphill solution.

  4. Maybe I'm speaking too soon but I can't believe they would make all of those beautiful aesthetic improvements and leave those ugly vents on the Stonewall 1st floor side exposed. If the idea (or on of the ideas) is to make it all more pedestrian friendly, maybe some awnings or sidewalk cafe look (or a sidewalk cafe) would make all of those utility vents disappear. A lot of money spent to still have that "industrial look at street level. Like I say, I may be speaking too soon.

  5. I know, from UPers, that the airport model has been moved or relocated but WHY, is there not a published rendering of “E”.  I flew into CLT about a month ago and never had the opportunity to go on the roof of the car rental garage so I really couldn’t visualize a finished product. Is this a “design as you build “ thang or are there actually renderings of a finished “E”?

  6. Several years ago, we visited Barcelona, there was a wonderful market called Mercat de Santa Caterina. It was a fresh meat and vegetable market set up like a refrigerated flea market. That old A & P on Park Avenue would make a perfect location for something like that. "You" should tell "them" that "they" need to convert that building to something amazing as that!
