  1. I made it in to Whiskey Warehouse on Wednesday. It was pretty packed. I think it just opened that day or the day prior. Really, really cool vibe in this place. Very modern interior, nice large bar, a cool little lounge area, video games and whatnot, lots of tables and space, and 10 large plasmas with sports on. I didn't stay long, just grabbed an appetizer (steak kabobs) and a beer. My app was really good, and the menu as a whole looked pretty impressive. Kind of an 'upscale' version of some classics was my impression. Didn't try the Jack & Coke Slurpee...but they definitely weren't lying about the whiskey warehouse thing. They've got cases and cases of whiskey stacked up on one wall as decoration/reserves. After just one visit to Creation, I knew it was going to fail. After just one visit to Whiskey Warehouse, I know it's going to be a huge hit. This will undoubtedly become one of the signature bar crawl stops in Plaza Midwood. Very glad to see a quality restaurant open in that space! (On a semi-related note...I wish all of the owners would come together and pave that back/side parking lot. I could see it being a main walk-through for people from Whiskey Warehouse to the bars on Thomas Street. It's actually kind of a cool vibe there already at night, since you sort of walk along the border of TTT's back patio. I'd think encouraging traffic through there - and improving the parking - would be good for all).
  2. I think that old church could make for a pretty nice bar/restaurant. Was really excited about Jackalope's moving there...but anything similar would be great. Apparently I was the last person on the planet to hear about Whiskey Warehouse, but for anyone else that hasn't...here is another tidbit. Per Creative Loafing, "...they'll have Jack on tap and a Jack & Coke Slurpee machine".
  3. Whiskey Warehouse looks about ready to open. Tables and chairs are setup, signs are in place, video games are on, etc. I've heard good things about this place...stoked to see what it's all about. Could be a great addition to the already stellar lineup in Plaza-Midwood. Anyone know when Jackalop Jack's is gonna start their move to PM?
  4. Also, I've seen a number of articles speculating that "Project Q" in Macon, GA is actually a manufacturing/distribution facility for Boeing. 1 million-square-feet. Phase I to be completed in 2011 and the overall project done by 2013. http://skylineviews.typepad.com/skyline_views/2009/12/mystery-macon-project-tied-to-boeing.html Again, no clue if they are the same project...just speculating.
  5. Not sure if this is the same company as "Project Cardinal", but it sounds eerily similar. Macon, GA is apparently one of two finalists for what they are deeming "Project Q"... "Mystery company might build huge center in Bibb, GA: Bibb County, GA is on the short list for a company looking to build a new manufacturing and distribution center. The 1 million-square-foot facility would be built in two phases..." http://www.macon.com/102/story/954970.html
  6. ...a Radio Shack headquarters would bring the total to *13* Fortune-1000 companies in Charlotte. And at #534, it would stand a very good shot at becoming our *9th* Fortune-500 company in the coming years. That's a ridiculous number for a city this size. ...I hope the rumors are true...
  7. I ate at Thai House (University) last week and asked them about the EpiCentre location. They said it was opening soon.
  8. Various news agencies reporting that Charlotte is hugely profitable to US Airways..and that this move may be directly related to that fact. Their costs here are significantly lower than in the other hubs.
  9. Yup, I heard it again this morning. You're correct...it's "Sports and Fitness Club". The radio ad says they are opening a new University area location. Not much on the website but they do list three locations (Northlake, Ballantyne, Morehead). All of which appear to be former Peak locations. Sports and Fitness Clubs - Rethink Fitness. Sounds like a pretty good deal, but we shall see... -$19 a month -No contracts -Basketball courts, swimming pool, track -Unlimited free tanning
  10. Heard an advertisement this morning on the radio (95.1, I believe) for a new gym somewhere in Charlotte. The new gym claimed the following features: -$19 a month -No contracts -Basketball courts, swimming pool, track -Unlimited free tanning I didn't, however, catch the name of the place. Does anyone know? It's not Planet Fitness or Peak Fitness. Only thing close that I can find on the web is SnapFitness...but I don't think that's it either. Did anyone by chance catch the ad this morning?
  11. That place looks amazing! Upscale Italian...nice.
  12. Yeah, I'm sure that's what I'm talking about. Looks like there are some huge concrete structures going up..assumed it had to do with the rail lines but I guess not necessarily. That's a pretty key location (check out the straight-shot of uptown) for something that could essentially be located anywhere in the county. Weird. Anyway, thanks for the info.
  13. What exactly is that huge construction project on the corner of N. Tryon and Sugar Creek Rd? I'm new to the area...but I assume it's part of this whole Transit plan, right? What specifically is it? New train station? There's currently one crane onsite and tons of concrete going in daily.
  14. Anyone know if/when Jackalope Jack's is actually moving to Plaza-Midwood? It was initially supposed to happen this year sometime, but obviously got pushed back. Any word? Creative Loafing, August 20th, 2008: "And after that we went to Jackalope Jacks. (OK, so technically the bar-rant is in Elizabeth, but it is moving to the old Steeple building in PM next year -- close enough.)" http://charlotte.creativeloafing.com/gyrob...tent?oid=347232
  15. Nevermind...the article says it will replace the one currently on Eastway.
  16. Any word what this means to the Wal-Mart on Eastway and Central? Can't imagine they'd keep two stores that close together...it's only like a mile away.
