Swarovski Crystal is going to open in MacArthur in the old L'Occitane space on the second floor next to Cache and Starbucks. The sign is up now. I heard from an employee in the mall that the reason why L'Occitane closed is because Swarovski is willing to pay more money for the small space than L'Occitane and that L'Occitane was unable to renew their lease with Tubman. This is great but they just opened a store at Lynnhaven around 2 years ago. I'm suprised that they would even open a second location in Hampton Roads, especially another on the southside. I mean how many crystals do we need. I can't see this being a store that most of us are going or able to patronize on a regular basis. But this is good news that the mall is still able to attract some quality tenants.
That's great news. Swarovski stores are fantastic.

What does "connect through" BWI mean? Do you have to deplane and reboard? If so, I don't see what the big deal is. They aren't non-stop flights.

Great shots Caveman, especially the first one. Lots of layers to the picture.

Great last shot there, Tel. The Residence Inn is really coming along.

^^ Nice shot, URBbum. I love ground-level shots like that.

Hello all,
I'm new to the forum. I grew up in Norfolk, but left after college. I visit a couple times a year and, whenever I'm in town I always try to take some pictures. Over the past several years, I've taken a few shots that you all might enjoy. Nothing really that you haven't seen many times before; just, perhaps, seen from a slightly different perspective. If you're interested, please follow this link to my Norfolk page (apologies for posting a link rather than the pictures themselves, but there are about 60

Will Waterside meet the wrecking ball?
Waterside, the aging waterfront attraction that helped spark the revitalization of downtown, should be razed to make room for a luxury hotel, condos or perhaps an office tower, according to some city officials. -
ODU is really making strides at becoming a first class university, it seems. If ODU becomes more acclaimed, Norfolk becomes more acclaimed.

Looks a lot like Harbor Heights, especially with the glass corner.

There's a slew of great Norfolk pictures on the Skyscraper City site.
Could you link it please if it's not too much trouble?
EDIT: nevermind, here it is. thanks for the heads up burt!

That makes two of us, vaceltic.

Wow, a 9-story medical center with parking garage. The least they could have done was to put the garage under the tower instead of wasting all that space!

They were going to build a hotel where Waterside is? Or are you referring to the Sheraton?
Years ago (I think somewhere around 1999) there was a developer trying to build a hotel (Holiday Inn Express, I think) right next to (or in place of) Waterside, and from what I remember the public hated the idea.

I'm all for expanding Town Point Park, but it does seem like a waste to tear down the marketplace. I'm sure we can find a solution that makes most people happy.

How about the exterior? Is he renovation that?
This is the only clue from the article:
He plans to renovate the interior of the 12-story tower and its 350 rooms and might remove the two side wings of the building to use the land for another purpose. -
Welcome, cosmo. It's great to see lurkers finally signing up and contributing.

What's next? The shops and restaurant will be dropped, leaving us a two-story medical "tower?"

Another Tennessee city! New service to Memphis.
On May 2, Northwest will launch nonstop service from its Memphis hub to Norfolk, Va. Northwest -
When Macy's bought out Hecht's that ended any chance of Macy's at MacArthur, the brand is simply too watered down and too common now for MacArthur to bring them on. They want a national anchor with a very limited or non-existent presence in Hampton Roads, and will not settle for a Macy's, Pennys, or the like.
I'm glad. We don't need another anchor like that. Are we kidding ourselves if we tempt the idea of Bloomingdales or Neiman Marcus?

The mall in general is in decline, but I hope MacArthur is doing well. I think the addition of Banana Republic and the expansion of the Coach store speak volumes.

Beautiful shot, vdogg.

Norfolk gains Nashville as a new daily non-stop city now!
http://www.southwest.com/about_swa/press/080109_chart.pdf
Southwest will begin flying the route soon. There is military traffic between the two cities plus Nashville offers around 84 daily departures on Southwest. Which this give Norfolk travelers another choice in connecting to west coast cities and beyond. Plus, it give Nashville travelers direct access to a great summer getaway!
Thanks for this news! I was wondering when Southwest would add Nashville again.

This document is a year old, but has even more detailed renderings that fall in line with the ones posted above. Hopefully they haven't changed since then...
