Yup, went by there just yesterday. The former main building's a hole in the ground and it looks like they're gutting the taller Bavarian-ish looking building next to it.

D'oh! me with my non-seeing-through-trees eyes, I thought that was a different building! My dad concurs--says it doesn't look that different from when his mom worked at the then-new Herpolsheimer's when he was a kid (early-late fifties). Saw someone already said that, too. Sorry about that. Also, sorry to bring up something here that was discussed in an old thread. I just got the ability to search the forums for some reason and it's still spotty. Longtime lurker, first-time poster here. GRDad, do you know when this photo was taken? I see the old Y but not the Ryerson library. I had thought the latter was older than the former for some reason. I could look at photos like this all day. Being born in 1983, the current-ish downtown is all I know and I feel like I missed something. Anyway, back on topic. Does anyone know if GRPD would be open to the possibility of a mural on that side? I've always thought that big empty wall was an eyesore, too.
