  1. And in much grander scale, at the northwest corner of Cental and Clement, extending between the RR tracks and Clement is a 200 unit apartment building (4 stories of apartments over 2 stories of parking) with ground floor retail, which a 2nd phase of more apartments an option on the site.

Not sure who the developer is, this was just listed today on the ACCELA land development website.

Any update on this development? How far back will it go? will it take over where Metro Graphics is located? what about the shops where the upholstey business and croas fit are located? Also any official name for the apartments going where Cast was?

  2. I drive past Central Bar and Restaurant everyday and it has not been open in over a week. Their website does not say anything though. Hopefully something will go in there and do well. Definitely a great rooftop view.

hmm that didn't last long. too bad...but i was never tempted to go there. its a great looking space and location but something DISTINCT needs to go there. it says something that both that and Common House closed recently, nice but nondescript bar restaurants.

  3. well, i think this place COULD succeed in either neighborhood depending on the price, but it will do much better in the Fat City Lofts building than it would have next to a Family Dollar and alterations place. I'm sure something cool will eventually go in that space, but the 1 block difference between that spot and Pecan-Thomas might as well be a mile in the minds of most people.

I noticed there is a new sign atop the former Luxe building that says "Bistro Le Bon". I haven't found anything online about it, but there is definite work going on there.

  4. I know I asked this question a few months ago, but I have noticed that someone bought the property the Charlotte Auto Spa on Central Ave is on in August. Does anyone know if there are any intentions with actually doing something with this or are they just going to leave it as is for the time being.

Also does anyone know what they are doing with the building at 5 points between Intermezzo and the White Rabbit.? I see they built a cinder block retaining wall and i saw people working on the roof a few weeks ago.

  5. While attempting to check out in the incredibly overcrowded PM Harris-Teeter yesterday evening (Did they forecast snow?? Everybody and his brother was at that grocery store!) I was discussing with the manager that they really need to do something to improve that particular store. He said that H-T had plans in place to do a major expansion/renovation but that the City of Charlotte nixed them because they consider the building a landmark. Excuse me? Please tell me that's NOT the case. Charlotte has allowed countless ACTUAL landmarks to be torn down and plowed under over the years but they won't let Harris-Teeter change the woefully inadequate building?! Does anyone know what, if any, truth there is to this?

The only reason I could think it would be considered a landmark is because it was the first ever H-T store. I have no idea if it is actually a designated landmark, but I do know it was the first HT store.

  6. Riding the bus to work this morning, I thought I saw surface parking or a new asphalt pad behind the straw closer to Central. I think the straw or future grass may be a by-product of the PED-overlay district similar to the split-rail-fenced corral in front of The Plaza Teeter. IOW, you can still do surface parking in PED, it just can't dominate your street frontage. Sadly, I guess this lot will only see limited vibrancy for fireworks-viewing and Memorial Stadium tailgating, instead of any urban residential capitalizing on perhaps the most commonly photographed angle of Charlotte's skyline.

If I am thinking of the lot you are talking about, that was the Antique Kingdom parking lot. There were two different structures to Antique Kingdom, which were both taken down and there was a parking lot in between them.

  7. I had talked to the owner before they sold and he had mentioned that someone came to his building and offered him a deal he could not refuse. He had mentioned that they might tear it down, which he was sad to hear, but he said the price was too good to turn down. He was not sure what they were going to put there. Very sad to see that house go down, it was built in 1903.

What?! Are you serious? That house had historic value. Man this sucks.
