  1. Would anyone who normally posts photos throught these many threads be in a position to go out and snap a bunch of photos of the SR 408 widening?

I am unable to get there and I would love to see where this stands

What I am specifically looking for are photos of the new Holland East and West tollbooth plazas, Lake Underhill Bridge, going west bound towards the stadium, the new Expressway Authority building by the Holland East plaza, etc,.

I would greatly appreciate anyone who can accomplish this

    Thanks

  2. My understanding is that you cannot get Federal funding for a road if it has tolls. Therefore, I think all I (Interstate) roads are toll free and receive federal funds for maintenance and upgrading.

What does that mean for some interstates that still do have tolls?

Are any road upgrades paid by tolls only?

I remember growing up in Jacksonville in the early 80's and I-95 at the Fuller Warren Bridge and further north had toll plazas on the interstate itself

They have long since been removed but they were there for a considerable period of time

I wonder if any construction was toll financed or a combo of federal funding and tolls

  3. Well if the local market and real estate market turns around, let the good times roll for another 4 years!!!!

    Dyer Re-Elected As Orlando Mayor

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The incumbent Buddy Dyer defeated Ken Mulvaney in the race for Orlando mayor.

Sixty percent of voters chose Dyer and 40 percent voted for Mulvaney.

A happy Dyer thanked his supporters at the Dubsdread golf course in Orlando Tuesday night

  4. What of the Esplanade?

Is this still going ahead as normal?

The last time I saw the Esplanade construction was 2 years ago

Anyone know how the remodel is coming along and whether or not it is on its way to what it should resemble?

  6. Architects lined up for Orlando arts center, stadium

The Orlando City Council today OK'd a contract with the main architect for the new performing arts center.

The agreement is between HKS Inc. and the Dr. P. Phillips Performing Arts Center, but the council must approve the deal. The contract will pay HKS a base fee of $4.5 million, with another $4.3 million going to the company's local partner, Baker Barrios architects. Most of the rest will go to subcontractors.

  7. And the hits at City Place just keep on coming....

March deadline set for claims in Lexington case

ORLANDO -- People who paid deposits for units at the Lexington condo hotel in downtown Orlando now have until March 21 to claim some of that money back.

But that offer could be extended to others not involved in the Lexington's sales, much to the chagrin of the condo-hotel depositors.

  8. I'm ganking this photo (and retouching it) from a new SSP thread because it's such a unique perspective of the Downtown Orlando skyline and too good not to share with everybody here. Hope the original poster doesn't mind.

This picture actually makes it look like we have a respectable skyline!

    This is an awesome photo!!

The perspective of this angle shows off great density thereby not creating the spaced out perspective the skyline usually shows in other photos

    "May I see it?"

Gotta love those Steamed Hams in spite of their striking resemblence to a Krusty Burger

  10. True but don't forget, Amway Arena was once the TD Waterhouse Center

Orlando Events Center isn't all that bad

At this point, I'm willing to take the Steak and Shake Center over Amway anyday

  11. Here are some snapshots of the newly constructed and opened Prudential Center in Newark, NJ as a guide for arena design

Notice it also has a glass tower that adds to the archictecture outside and serves as a grand entrance going inside

Here is an image of the old Continental Airlines Arena that the Prudential Center replaced

The difference is clearly night and day

Out with the busted beat up and in with the sleek bad ass

  12. A couple of notes about the new arena mentioned during halftime of the Magic game:

-800,000 sq. ft. - I think they said the current arena is 360,000 sq. ft.

-120-foot tower with club and observation deck that can be open 365 days a year.

-3 retail locations at street-level on Church Street.

I believe the 360,000 sq. ft estimate of the current arena is correct

The new one is meant to be double the size
