  1. A few hours down the road actually! ATL has 5 parallels- They are all oriented exactly the same but the numbers are changed slightly to alleviate any confusion. 8L/26R 8R/26L 09L/27R 09R/27L 10/28 Its hard to see but they are paired as such North Side: 08L/26R- Arrivals. 08R/26L- Departures South Side: 09L/27R- Departures 09R/27L - Arrivals 10/28- Arrivals
  2. Additional to the Caribbean/Latin America increased mentioned above. This isn't really news, but the 3rd London flight is officially going to be year round. Per a recent update. https://www.aeroroutes.com/eng/230612-aanw23inc Between the added Caribbean flights as well as the third London and year round Madrid, it will be a busy winter for customs at Charlotte! Also, an update on the trees in the atrium. These pictures are a few weeks old, but most of the trees against the moving side walls are staying. They are just adding more modern and better placed flight information screens on both ends of the atrium If the airport looks empty it’s because these were taken around 11pm because my flight was delayed until 1:30am!
  3. As mentioned above by @LKN704and @go_vertical , if your into different urban topics I would give him a second chance. He cover's a lot of unique topics and does it well. He's pulling a "legitimate" metric for that claim that even says isn't entirely true. He likely just had to make the title what he did just for clickbait. Charlotte actually gets an honorable mention in the below video for how our sports venues are arranged.
  4. I respect his videos and he makes good points. On another note, I know metrics are metrics, but I find it hard to believe that Charlotte is the "World Capital of Sprawl" when cities like Houston, TX, Dallas, TX, and Huntsville, AL (tiny downtown, but tons of sprawl respectively) exist. But that's just my 2 cents. Flying into DFW on a approach it's insane how many cookie cutter neighborhoods you see being put up 40+ miles outside of central Dallas/Fort Worth. Every time you fly in, they are building homes further and further out.
  5. It's not an officially "numbered" UFC card, but UFC Fight Night's returns to the Spectrum Center tonight! It's only the fifth time Charlotte has ever hosted UFC and is the first time since 2018. https://www.spectrumcentercharlotte.com/news/detail/ufc-returning-to-charlotte-with-fight-night-in-may
  6. London International Airport in London, Ontario has been "transformed" into Charlotte Douglas for the filming of an unnamed upcoming movie! It looks like it will be a holiday themed movie. https://london.ctvnews.ca/london-international-airport-transformed-for-film-production-1.6371102
  7. Another slight update to the transatlantic schedule winter 2023/2024. Seasonal service Charlotte-Dublin is now scheduled to begin on March 5, 2024 next season. moved up two months from the start date this year (which is May 5th). https://www.aeroroutes.com/eng/230425-aanw23 This means that Charlotte Dublin next year will operate 8 months out of the year from March through October. Perhaps this will be the next route to go year round? It is the most logical given the One World presence in Dublin with Aer Lingus.
  8. They have released the renderings for the new Airport Overlook! This looks phenomenal. It will instantly be one of the best, if not the best official airport overlook in the country. I didn't put it in the respective thread, but this is a great example of creating unique culture in CLT. https://www.cltairport.com/community/airport-overlook/
  9. Don't worry. The prices you see originally are high (however don't be surprised by prices in the high 1000s to low 2000s)
  10. No official sources for this yet, but according to a supposed internal email at American. CLT-Madrid will be going year round starting this upcoming winter 2023 along with a few other non Charlotte routes. It will load late tonight for booking. Most certainly with a Boeing 777-200
  11. The one downside to the new lounge Admirals Club is that it is going in the space where a new FIS corridor from C was supposed to go. Therefore, there isn't a plan in place for increasing FIS/Customs capacity at CLT to my knowledge.
  12. As of yesterday all of the trees on the food court side of the atrium have been removed, but there are still several left on the side next to the moving walkway. They were still in progress of renovating the areas, but maybe it will only be select trees removed. Wow!! If 40,000 Sq Ft is accurate that is an absolutely massive lounge. The largest in the system. For perspective. The Centurion Lounge at CLT is 13,000 Sq Ft, the new Admiral's Club at Austin is 15,000 Sq ft, the new Admirals Club at DCA is 14,500, and combined the Admirals Club and Flagship lounge in concourse D at DFW is 35,000 sq ft combined. Perhaps they could be looking at a similar Admirals Club/Flagship Lounge combination at CLT.
  13. I was in Kansas City for work last week and got to see the new terminal in person. Nothing mind blowing architecturally, but very wide concourses and lots of local flavor (including at least 3 sit down BBQ options and several neat history exhibits in the connector between the terminals. They also had 2 "sensory rooms" for neurodivergent people who may be be overwhelmed in an airport. They also chose to go with glass jet bridges at every gate which gives jet bridges a much less claustrophobic feel. If I had to knock the new terminal. The signage in the baggage claim for rental cars and other services was not very clear and hard to find. Despite having several pieces of artwork, the terminal felt fairly sterile. This seems to be common with modern terminals. Also, fwiw, even at week old you could see scuff marks on the flooring. So it's not just CLT.
  14. A big day for news in regards to air service. On July 1st Lufthansa will begin sending the Airbus A340-600 once again (the really long plane with 4 engines for those less aviation affluent). It will re-introduce first class on the CLT-Munich market for Lufthansa and be the first time the A346 has regularly served CLT in nearly a decade. Also, on May 5th. Spirit will be starting flights to LAX (Los Angeles)! They will be up to 10 daily flights to 8 destinations (Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, New York- Laguardia, Nashville, Dallas, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles). No official announcement but the flights are bookable on the Spirit website. Also, I didn't see it posted, but on February 6th CLT posted an update on A North Part 2. The shell is progressing nicely.
  15. Fwiw, CLT is bringing in 2 new unannounced food options. Side by Side in concourse C. Wow Bao- Which as the name implies focuses on Asian Steamed Buns, and Beatrix Market- which looks to be a grab and go concept with healthier options. https://www.beatrixrestaurants.com/beatrix-market/streeterville/ https://wowbao.com/about/
  16. Ishrion (a trusted source for airline updates for those unfamiliar) posted an update saying that it is officially 3 daily but not all the flights were uploaded for some reason. It appears that the erratic schedule was a glitch of sorts.
  17. Per the schedule update tonight, Charlotte to London Heathrow is going to 3 daily from April through October. While I personally wish it could have been British Airways. The 3rd daily flight is around 4 years in the making. It was rumored to be imminent pre-covid. With this addition. In terms of numbers of flights. CLT is now at Pre-Covid levels of Trans-Atlantic capacity. This flight essentially "takes the place" of the flight to Barcelona AA flew pre-pandemic.
  18. This is exactly what they've done. Outside of the CLT-CDG resumption announcement and DFW-Tokyo Haneda (which his just a transfer from Tokyo Narita). Every "resumption" they list is currently being flown this winter, they just didn't fly this past summer. In regards to 2x daily Frankfurt. I do wonder if it could return with the introduction of the 321XLR. Seem like a good use for one summer seasonal. AA has really taken advantage of UA's retreat from small markets during the pandemic and DLs slower recovery. In my local market (LEX). They have really made an attempt to close the gap with DL during the pandemic and it seems to be working.
  19. Flights to Paris will be returning next summer! Not sure why they list CLT-FRA as a resumption. It’s flying currently. https://news.aa.com/news/news-details/2022/The-Northeast-Alliance-Adds-10-More-Destinations-Providing-More-Choice-and-Service-to-Customers-NET-RTS-12/?utm_source=News_Alert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsroom_Alerts
  20. Sun Country Airlines will be starting flights to CLT in April 2023. Twice weekly to Minneapolis/St. Paul. Flights will presumably be Summer/Fall seasonal. More details will come later on Tuesday No official news release yet but the source is very reliable. https://ishrionaviation.com/news/sun-country-major-route-expansion
  21. Spirit adding 2 more routes on 4/12/23! Dallas/Ft Worth and Nashville. This will put them up to 9 daily flights. (2 flights to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale) https://amp.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article268513397.html
  22. DEN was daily year round during the pandemic. It is coming back on November 12th Saturday only and then switches to Sunday only through the end of the bookable schedule (July 10th). It's certainly not winter seasonal. I imagine it goes back to daily within the next year or so.
  23. Per the Southwest schedule extension today. Charlotte to Houston-Hobby will resume on April 9th, 2023. Sundays only. Unfortunately, no other changes to report from the previous extension. Southwest has been very slow at rebuilding to pre-pandemic levels, but this makes the return of all of our pre-pandemic destinations plus Denver and St Louis.
