Stopped by the new downtown Peddler a few days ago to grab a beer. What I saw was really nice. The bar area was comfortable and welcoming with a fireplace. Did not venture upstairs to where most of the dinning seating is. Good addition to downtown.

Todd Horne as mayor would have been really big for the Burg had it happened.
Junie White is such a dud.
Probably 'user error' but, had what happened? IMO Todd Horne should have run for council before mayor.

Heard rumor from two different sources. The corner of East Main and Pine Street is going to be redeveloped. That the Village Inn and Town Square building will be demolished. Has anyone else heard something? Maybe Mellow Mushroom would consider-relocating to the old Wild Ace pizza spot. (historic C&S building). Or move across the street to new United Community Bank building.

Eat dinner last night at Bar1884 for the first time. Food was great, but service was fair. Lot of folks downtown!

Not the greatest looking things in the world. I wish the City would require the garages / all the parking in the back. Especially since the developers say they have "plenty of parking, actually more than we need." At the very least, make the sidewalk level and make the driveways bump up. All those curb cuts are awful for pedestrians.
The lot where this small development was planned is still vacant on Avant Street; one block from Converse College. There is a new rezoning request for most of the entire block from the Marathon Gas Station on East Main to Garrett Street; including a number of lots on Oakwood Avenue. The request is from Ray Billings , J. Hiltabiddle Construction to change the zoning to R-6 POD s. They plan on building a townhome development. Not sure if this is the same group who planned the original units.

What about a stadium that can convert from baseball to soccer/lacrosse.

Great vibe in downtown tonight. Nice weather helped, but still I was impressed. Have not been to Rockers on Saturday, but great band and good crowd. We are on a roll!

The Mayor's race is going to a runoff (on Nov. 21). Junie White didn't quite get 50% of the vote (White - 2,853; Horne - 2,196; Whitner - 778). White will likely win the runoff. Erica Brown (yay!) and Jerome Rice both held their Council seats.
I would like to see Horne on City Council for at least one term before he is mayor.

I think this is great! But not sure why Spartanburg has such long traffic arms. Even if future left only turn signals are the reason, many throughout downtown are way too long. When you look down Church Street all you see are these huge traffic arms that seem like they belong on a six lane highway. Do not see this in other cities and these poles can not be cheap.

Recently heard that Becky sold the NuWay. Also, that there will be a goodbye bash later this month. Does anyone have more information? Thanks.

My wife and I ate at Nacho Taco tonight in the old Refuel Wine Bar location. Very disappointed and probably will not go back. Broncos and Monterrey's much better. Great space but......

Spartan, have you thought about an H-J letter to the editor? Or better yet an op-ed.

From Spartanburg H-J:
A Greer-based Mexican eatery is bringing its flaming fajitas and fresh guacamole to the east side of Spartanburg.
California Style Guacamole Mexican Grill plans to open its first Spartanburg restaurant at 1071 Fernwood Glendale Road. The restaurant's owners will lease the 7,600-square-foot building, which was formerly occupied by the Four Seasons Restaurant and later Roots Deep South Eats.

Well, the good news is that both new places are busy - a positive sign.
Downtown Deli & Doughnuts is owned by the same folks who run Hub City Scoops and the hiking store down the street. Both are extremely well run and I'm sure they will correct any shortcomings.
It is my understanding that the Deli's main owner is Elizabeth Evans. She is not connected with the Local Hiker or Scoops. But she has a lot of experience and owned Elizabeth's downtown and across from Converse College a few years ago.

Yes, Main and Liberty. Possibly 38 apartments with two added floors for a total of 6.
A little confused...Main and Liberty is where the Bishop Furniture building is. Denny's has land/park on another corner.

Saw where Mother's opened in the old Lil' Ds location near Dudley's. Has anyone tried it? .

Subway is still open. Owner of building is just working on the windows and facade of the building.
OK, Thanks. Drove by today on St. Johns side.

Maybe I missed it, but does anyone know what the deal is with the Subway at St Johns and Magnolia? Looks like there is construction and that site may be something else. Pure Barre expansion maybe?? That Subway seemed to do a pretty good business.

Over the holidays I was talking with a friend of mine who is a small business owner downtown. We were just shooting the breeze about certain things that had taken place and about stuff that was to come. The conversation turned to how to get white collar jobs downtown and this person said that they were not positive that the city wanted white collar jobs downtown unless it was on their terms. I asked them what they meant by this statement and they said "C2HM Hill had originally wanted to come downtown and be a part of the resurgence as they wanted to build an office tower where the Herald Journal building is". However the city would not go for that for whatever reason and kept redirecting them to the Montgomery Building. They flat out refused to want to spend the significant dough it would take to revitalize it and then set their sights on Greenville.
Again this comes from a downtown business owner so I assume most of this would be correct and why would they lie.
It is my understanding that the city also assisted CH2M Hill with looking at the Beaumont Mill complex over a year ago. (Plus the site behind the Marriott)

I talked to a buddy of mine that is a realtor and he said that Sean is going to turn it into a family entertainment center with things like amusement devices, skee ball, etc kind of like the model that Gatti Land is but not Gatti Land. It would be somewhere you go after dinner with kids (or they may serve food, not sure) from say Wild Wing other than just going home.
A mini Dave and Buster's would be cool. That would mean high tech games and a bar with beer/food. Maybe too expensive???

I always wanted to check out Refuel but never got down there.
I am surprised they did not close sooner. Have been there a couple of times. Was never impressed. The last time the owner was on her computer and did not say a word when we left. The time before the server was clueless about wine. Although, a cool place for a new tenant.

Texas Road House opened yesterday. Nice addition for Spartanburg.
