  1. Based on InitialD's pics, I'm counting that they are pouring the supports for the 42nd floor? I'm just basing this on 5 floors prior to the first unit with a balcony...

Based on INitialD's pictures they are actually finishing the 40th floor and pouring the supports for the 41st floor, so 12 more floors (including mechanical to go)

  2. I personally loved the quote about people maybe deciding to work there instead of downtown. So a Office Park/ Strip Mall with 200 apartments is going to make people quit their jobs uptown and expect to get a job in Perimeter Woods, are you serious. I don't understand the gaston county comment either. But seriously does 15 min drive+3 min walk make you a pedestrian? I think Dougie spent too much time in traffic, sniffin exhaust fumes, while heading up to northlake to check it out, and got a lil high. He then started tripping and thought he say pedestrian friendly.

  3. Not a very deep hole. Will there be above grade parking as part of the tower or a seperate structure?
Its an attached portion of the building, it is what the amenity deck, including pool, tennis courts, dog park and etc, will be located atop.
  4. There's a dueling piano bar off HWY 150 in Lake Norman, Jokers, but alas, I won't stray any further off-topic.

Take this with a grain of salt but, 210 Trade is now being called a 42 story condo tower by the Charlotte Business Journal. I guess this is saying the tower will be 42 stories on top of 5-6 stories of retail/office. This is fairly consistant with the website which only goes up to 48 stories of residences. It seems they had to break the project into phases because of its complexity. They are also saying 210 trade won't be done til 2011. <_< AKA Atlrvr was correct.

  5. Cement:

Definition 1a at m-w.com is "CONCRETE".

Definition 1c in the online American Heritage is "Concrete".

Technically correcct? Maybe not. Used and accepted? Yep. Perhaps this is one of those cases where something was mis-used long enough that the mis-use became accepted. I don't know. If it is, well, it's not great, but it happens.

I kind of like concrete ceilings, but I've never had to live with one. I think Catalyst sure has the potential to be the same as Avenue.

Just trying to be a little bit obnoxious. On another note, to people who have lived in Avenue and other places that do have the exposed concrete, are there any restrictions to hanging things from the concrete, Pictures, Fans, etc. I am very interested in Catalyst and if that is the case are there going to be any restrictions. Granted I realize it is your own condo.

  6. I for one love cement ceilings. My wife and I stay at the Tweleve hotel in Atlanta everytime we go and I think the cement ceilings are great.

I don't know how anyone could love "cement" ceilings. Speaking that cement is the aggregate part of the mixture that after water (in the case of hydraulic cement) is applied and it is poured, it sits, cures and hardens making concrete, I don't think cement ceilings would be very sturdy. I'm fairly certain its the Concrete ceilings that you guys do not like. I for one don't mind them, I think they are very industrial, minimal, and interesting. Concrete rooms do a pretty good job holding a nice steady temperature as well.

  7. 17 stories... not sure about the height though.

If you take the official rendering into account its 17 stories of hotel on top of two stories of retail. So 19 floors.

    post-19710-1212679326_thumb.jpg

On another note, it seems they have started increasing the floor heights once again in the construction process which is consistant with the rendering. So we have 4 taller floors to go it seems. (2 on the short side, 4 on the tall) We have one floor before the ritz has reached the Top of the Omni, so this tower should be a little bit taller. This is a milestone for me, because you can barely see the top of the omni from the corner of Wendover and Randolph, so if this building is going to be 3-4 floors heights taller than the omni, it will make somewhat of an impact on the overall skyline.

  8. Any circle but Dupont. Dupont Circle is a nightmare for pedestrians. Easy to drive only if one continues below grade on Connecticut Ave and if one continues through on Mass. Ave.

Are there any other crane bases installed? Just from the size of the site and the placement of the first tower crane, there may be a second tower crane.

The Vue Charlotte Website calls this one the "first tower crane" so while I don't have a solid source, I would say that statement implies that there will be more than one tower crane.

  9. So I noticed this for the past month but all of the cameras for the Nascar Hall of Fame project are either 1 or 2 months off. I say 1 or 2 months because image 1,2 and 4 are behind at April 30th, and Image 3 is March 29th. Nothing Groundbreaking, but I thought it was worth a mention.

  10. So Half of the 27th floor is up now so we are a couple days away from the residential part being completely topped off. All we have left is like 1 floor on the sides and 1.5-2 floors in the middle of decoration, at least from what I understand of the renderings. So my question is, when are they going to start selling these condos exactly? I guess this is as close to spec tower as charlotte can get.

  11. post-19710-1211988575_thumb.jpg

Pavilion at Epicentre Rendering. I dont' remember it looking like this yet, but I haven't really checked it out in a while. I figure it would have to look like this for their first even on thursday but I guess they don't have to. Does anyone know if it is actually shaping up to look like this yet?

  12. Wow, this thing has completely changed. The building plans are now Ls instead of Donuts. I guess the reason nothing has happened is because they were going through a total redesign.

They redesigned the building because only the units with views were selling, basically nothing inside the donut was so they had to give everyone an opportunity to have a view. Its too bad they had to do that, but as long as it happens I'm happy.

  13. Honestly there are quite a few inconsistencies between this site and the rest of the trump projects. The General Feel is very lowbrow as far as websites go, at least in comparison with other "product launch sites." Its just way to unprofessional for Trump.

I consider myself to be some what of a "typophile" and the biggest thing that tells me this site was not put together by TrumpORG is the logo and the Typography. The logo used on the site is a grayscale diamond with a serif T. Firstly the could be argued as minimalist, but the diamond with the hard grayscale gradients looks unprofessional, not to mention the T is not the Trump T. The Cross Stroke is way too wide and its a transitional typeface instead of a strict serif. The Logo looks like a little kid made it, I could replicate it in minutes. Not to mention the typography of the headline is way too quirky for Trump, its also completely horizontal. His logos are consistently vertical, with an identifying logo on top and the with a serif T in a stylized feature. The TRUMP is a trademarked look they wouldn't manipulate it. Here is an example.

    trump%20Tower%20Tampa%20logo.JPG

That is just my take on the sites typography. I am confused about all these uncharacteristic features however, because it does say at the bottom it is Trump Org Copyrighted 2008

  14. I'm really in love with this project and its scale (73 floors and 40, WOW), but there is one very negative thing I have noticed about the project thus far and thats this one simple quote.

With Below Grade Parking and street level access this retail portion brings energy from the streets of Center city Charlotte inside to creat a memorable shopping experience.

I translate this to be "We Suck all the energy from the street around us"

So basically what I take from this is it will be a jazzed up more expensive luxury Overstreet Mall, with maybe 1 or two street level shops. I guess with its location it'd be hard for it to be otherwise, not to mention Diehl's building kind of ruins the possibility of sufficient street level retail. Overall however I am excited about getting 200k more retail downtown, especially when it will likely be apparel stores bookstores and etc.

  15. From what I see, the official height will be 677 feet. I think that puts it in the top 5 tallest in Charlotte. Yea, I think everyone here is pretty excited about it :)

If everything goes right it will be

    1. Bank Of America Corp 871 ft. 60 stories

    2. Wachovia Corporate Center 764 ft. 49 stories

    3. Vue Charlotte 677 feet. 51 stories

    4. Hearst Tower 659 feet 47 stories

    5. 210 Trade 601 feet 53 stories

    6. (The building formerly known as) One Wachovia Center 588 42 stories

    7. Bank of America Plaza 503 feet 40 stories.

  16. Maybe Fox, but not Dougie. He never mentioned the website being offline until yesterday. I think he would have mentioned that if he knew it was only recently added. This is classic Trump. He won't "announce" until it is blatantly obvious, more obvious than this.

    -Rob

I disagree, I think Dougie has read it, he just wants the story all to himself since he has lost so much of his credibility. He doesn't want the story to get out before he can write about it, just like what happened when the wachovia rendering leaked on the board thanks to Norm. We created the buzz that time, and he wanted it all to himself.

  17. Boy they are doing a lot of work on renderings and websites in a 24-hour period for a project that is on hold and an ad that comes out on Thursday... :)

Wonder if an announcement of a tenant will accompany other announcements should they come?

Could the redering on the right show that two sets of buildings straddle 277?

On the picture on the right you can see 277 to the left hand side of it. Not to mention if 277 was that small compared to these buildings they would have to be MASSIVE structures, at least more so than they really are.

  18. To defend Nibbletodell a little bit, I don't think he expected you to be the least urban minded city dweller out there. I mean obviously you aren't, you live downtown, right? Anyways, It seems like your whole purpose since you joined this site was to brag about the fact that you went out and bought two condos on the 16th floor of arlington and knocked down the wall so you could have one of the largest condos in the area. Being an urbanite isn't about vanity, or having a lot of space, thats what being a suburbanite, and if you want your greenspace back move to the burbs. Since you seem to have this elitist attitude all I have to say is what comes around goes around.
