A google research of your claim tends to support some validity of your claim, but it seems unlikely of Willamantic being so far from a mid-sized to larger metropolitan center. My experiences in Montreal has been that almost all people there are bilingual. But they apparently misunderstood me when I called down to room service and ordered a full American breakfast, which came with the room, and sent up four American breakfasts. Yes, I think everyone knows by now that visiting football teams playing against the Patriots @ Foxboro stay at the Providence Westin. And yes, they do use the Providence airport. Oh, excuse me. The Warwick, RI airport. And I do remember, at one time, the network showing the Providence & Boston skyline. But I think this was during the playoffs.
