^Great find! This would be excellent in this location. It is similar to the style of the AAA building at the next major intersection on Marginal Way. I wonder how they can squeeze the Amtrak around these buildings?

From what I gather, the major is "elected" by the city council. The mayor is more of a representation of the city council than the big boss who calls all the shots. It's like the Monarchy and the Parliment in England, like the Queen of England represents the nation but has no political authority. She is very important nontheless!

Too bad the people don't get to vote for mayor. She really is a nice lady though and she is pro-urban development and whatnot from all the articles I've read. And it is amazing how many minorities there are in Portland these days, in just the 18 years that I've been alive, the city has really diversified. I realized it this summer at the 4th of July thing when a lot of the residents from different ethnic backgrounds all mix together.

I just happend to be searching through Emporis.com in the Manchester section, and found some building heights... City Hall Plaza - 217 feet (20 floors) Hampshire Plaza - 259 feet (20 floors) I bring it up becuase in the trivia section of this city profile it says.... "City Hall Plaza, the tallest building in northern New England" So either the info at emporis.com or the info in this thread is incorrect. I don't mean to be a nit-picker but I just like to keep everything in check.

There was a big article on the Prsss Herald earlier this week about that house they are moving. I don't know if anyone had posted it or not. The house was there before that last big fire long ago and they are moving it a few streets over because it is condidered historical. I got a picture of the site today too while strolling around the peninsula randomly. edit- That was indeed THE movie of the summer with half the house barelling down the road.

I read something in the Southern Maine Forcaster today at work involving that guy who proposed those 50+ twin towers for South Portland a few years back. I guess he is getting public support now to build a "village" style townhouse area, a grocery store, and some other retail on the site. I'll keep my eyes peeled for more info.

I agree with everyone's feedback on the parking lots. If they built a few 5 story parking garages, they could save space to sell to developers, and people wouldn't have to walk as far to hospital!

Interesting. Half of that building has been there for a few years now. Extending the building like in the rendering would be excellent. It looks like 5 floors in that drawing. I think it would like perfect with 8 floors.

20 Pearl Street looks pretty interesting. It sure beats the parking lot that is currently situated there. This is the view from the top of a office and parking garage complex across the street. The empty lot is in the bottom right of the photo.

Gosh, there's been a lot of talk about Portland recently.

^That looks great for a lower-end income development. That end of Congress Street is due for a few new buldings. I like the trees along the street too, nice touch.

I didn't know you visited so many forums Shazbat, this is the 3rd time I've replied to your post and the 3rd time I've had different replies. Monument plaza will be condos once completed. It will be the first fancy condo project in this area of Congress Street. It is indeed steps away from Monument square. Here is the site as of a few months ago: Waterview condos will be a nice partner for the Back Bay towers and will surely add a lot to the skyline from the North and west. And this will be a hotel and condo combo built on the current site of Jordan's meat plant.

I didn't know that arena football had become so popular. I do recall Bon Jovi owning a team however. Just don't try a roller hockey team, Portland had one in like the early 90s and they probably got about 200 people to come for the whole season (or however long they played before leaving town) One of my friends went to a game with his family and he recalls being able to just slightly raise his voice to talk to the half dozen people sitting on the other side of the arena.

(Stands up to defend Hadlock field) Last year, Portland finished 5th among 30 Double-A teams in total attendance (behind Round Rock, Frisco, Akron and Reading). It is currently the 5th largest park in the Eastern League, with 6,975 places to sit. The new stadium in Manchester will hold 6,500. Last year, the average attendnace was 6,231. (About 10% of the total population of Portland ) Out of the 176 minor league teams in affiliated baseball, the Sea Dogs will finish 26th in total attendance. Any maybe the games aren't that excting, but there are tons of things going on besides the baseball game. I go to watch baseball, but many focus their attention on all of the side shows going on with the mascots, promotional things, garbage monsters, that coke selling rocket man, trivia, the center field lighthouse, speed pitch, and whatnot. Also, The AA all star game will be held at Hadlock Field on July 13, 2005. But besides that, I really have nothing against Manchester or their baseball team and new stadium. From what I've seen in this picture thread, it looks like a classy town and I would love to visit Manch someday.

It says "great arcitecture.com" in the corner of the Boston city hall photos pffftt ...But honestly, I really don't mind the building. I has a nice section of stairs to talk down to the Quincy Market and waterfront area. The subway station is decent. I saw a free outdoor concert in the plaza last summer with my dad. However, when it's neccessary to head northwest up Cambridge St, I would cross over to the other side of the road and proceed. I've never been inside, is that where they have a model of the city?

^Can't blame you there, the Verizon Center looks about 50 times better than the Cumberland County Civic Center. I'm hoping to get to Manchester for an afternoon this summer.

That baseball stadium looks pretty killer! I hope it doesn't take away too many of the loyal Sea Dog's fans from New Hampshire. What major league franchise are the FisherCats affiliated with?

My vote also goes for Philadelphia (applauds respectively) It reminds me of the Old Boston City Hall, except its a whole lot bigger and taller.
