  1. I consider Affliction, Ed Hardy and Express the same level of crap. I should mention that I design some of the clothes you speak of (apparel carried at A/X, Forever 21, Express, Target, etc) for a living... And none of them are quality. I do agree however, that SP needs a lot of life for young people though, I just HATE A/X.

I hate A{sodEmoji.|}X too and I'm proud that there isn't one in Charlotte.

  2. Strong rumor that Nieman's is considering closing the Charlotte store. Merchandise is sitting and the store is hemorrhaging money. Further bad news is that the Billy Reid store went from being first in sales (in the chain) to the bottom. The Charleston, SC store actually has higher sales per square foot, but from what I'm told, Billy is committed to Charlotte. Hermes is also rumored to be on the way out. Discuss...

Where does the rumor come from? Things can turn around quickly; the last I heard about Neiman Marcus is that it had an amazing grand opening and that they were planning a restaurant. I suppose the poor economy is the main culprit?

  3. Only reason we have a Saks really is because they were sold on the TTC location because of its proximity to Wakefield and other high dollar developments. Crabtree doesn't have that nearby really, so it would be unlikely they would go there. On top of that, their TTC location is one of their top performers in terms of sales believe it or not.

That is difficult to believe. You mean for the entire company? Every time I've ever been in there it's been, well, dead. Where did you hear that?

And I know it's not likely for Saks to relocate, but don't you think it's more attainable for Crabtree to pursue that rather than getting Neiman Marcus to open up shop? I mean, they already have a store in Charlotte so a Raleigh location would only further dilute the name. Not that Raleigh isn't a nice place to live, but I think "PhD" when I hear Raleigh, not "high fashion".

  4. This may sound silly, but I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that Hermes and Neiman Marcus are there. Those are two (quite) large names in fashion, and it may lead people to delusions of grandeur, although it seems they're really catering more to a niche audience.

  5. I have only one comment: cheapest model ever. Times must really be bad at BoA for such a lousy representation.

Haha, I agree. It basically looks like a plastic box with a light inside of it. As for the actual building itself, I have to reserve judgment until the building is actually complete (or we get some sort of a halfway decent model to see). From the look of the latest rendering, it seems the building may have an interesting, almost industrial, feel. Of course, it's hard to see with such a small picture.

  6. Amen. You hit the nail on the head.. in my opinion. Saks would do well at Lake Norman, because of the concentration of high income and its proximity to Charlotte AND it not being in SouthPark where there would be an overtly competitive atmosphere for high-end retail.

...or we could hope for a miracle and they could magically decide to open one, tomorrow, in uptown. :silly:

  7. The Saks in Raleigh is off of Capitol Boulevard (aka hell), which makes no sense whatsoever. I'm sure they could have chosen a better location and gotten better results than what's happening now. Similarly, whether or not a Saks would do well in Charlotte, I think, depends on where it goes. Putting the Saks on Capitol in Raleigh would be the rough equivalent of putting a Saks on Independence. It just doesn't make sense.

  8. I suppose I was just lucky as far as traffic goes. I seem to remember everyone telling me the traffic was going to kill me when I got to Charlotte but I don't really remember it being worse than Raleigh, I just remember there being more of it (as in, more lanes but they weren't more congested). Of course, one time I visited during race week and it was understandably crowded on the interstates.

  9. I remember the first time I visited Charlotte, I was shocked by how violent it wasn't. All my life I had heard horror stories painting Charlotte as a blood-soaked warzone. Virtually everyone I knew knew someone else who had been shot and killed there. I could definitely say I felt as safe there as I had in Raleigh, though.

edit--I was shocked at how bad the traffic wasn't, also.

  10. "Pastor Joe Caullie said he was 'really outraged' after shopping at Urban Outfitters. He said the edgy clothing store is a little too edgy."

Rediculous. Perhaps if he's so afraid of it then he should have just stayed away (that's what I do--for different reasons). Problem solved. And too edgy for whom, might I ask? God, I despise anyone who actually makes me side with that store.

  11. Yeah I'm not sure how much I would trust that site seeing as how State College, PA is listed as both liberal friendly and unfriendly. :whistling: This is all just a matter of perspective, but IMO Charlotte for its size is rather conservative. Politically, most people don't hear much concerning Charlotte and most likely just lump it in with most other southern cities.

Just saw where Spokane, WA has also been placed on both lists....confusing.

Haha, I didn't notice that. Well, like I said, I know you can't trust everything you'd see on a page such as this. :P

I actually don't think of Charlotte as being particularly liberal or conservative, myself. I don't really get an impression either way when I go there. I think it would be more appropriate to say it's a neutral city rather than liberal unfriendly.
