I disagree with you -shreveport is still the center of the metro area. I think Shreveport population has been static for 30years. I remember hitting 200K in the late 1970's. Something is wrong there because contrary to what you say most Southern city are gaining population and huge multi story developments. Shreveport hasn't a hi-rise condo built since the Fountain Tower on Fairfield 45 years ago. With the cost of gas there is a trend for the center city to boom right now. Who is leading the polls to be the next mayor. I hope he does something. This is a war -Shreveport has to realize that every city is competing against them and that they have to go to war.

Other than the Capitol Bldg, downtown BR need some skyscraper. Very small dt- Other than the Marriott whatelse is going on . Look at the Austin forum and you will be surprise. I personally think BR is a more culture city than Austin

I am sorry to here about Southern Hills. I remember it been a nice area. Since the area siouth of there is booming why can;t the area enyoy some of the benefits. If you mean the area is becoming another Cedar Grove do you mean that Blacks and Hispanic are moving in !!!!!!. I am sorry if I offended anyone with my post but I have so much passion for Shreveport because I know where the city has been and whereit could have gone. FYI fellow poster I live in Shreveport and went to high school there so do not have a right to my opinion. Yes every city has problems but shreveport is a case in point when city leadership do not aggressively seek hi tech industry. Maybe , I am crazy but beside GM, gaming . what new industry have to offer. Better still if I graduated from LSU-S where can I go im the city to get a decent job. I know the answer Dallas, Atlanta, Houston and San Antonio. there are so many former Shreveporter in San Antonio that it can start another town. Cross Lake can be develop and still leave tons of green and recreational space. In closing , I am very proud of Shreveport and its accomplishment but I guess I want it to go to the next tier of cities. It like a kid who stays in the 6 th grade for 20 years then it goes to the eight now you want the kid to graduate and go to college. The city has great culture-Sicilians, French, Southern Belle and African Americans. On a personal note they have some of the most beautiful french creole ladies and top shelf restaurants like Herby K, Ernest, Brocatos etc anywhere.

shreveport is taking a step in the right direction with the Allendale area. Believe it or not some of the best real estate in the city is in that area from a historical standpoint to Cross Lake. I wish someone in that city hasd some vision for the Cross Lake area , even the part that I 220 goes over. How long can they stay a hick town

Is Shreveport always coming up short. Develop hi rise in the N Market areas. When is a 40 story bldg on the horizon? Cross Lake for my money is the best real estate investment in the area along with the lake in Benton

What happened to cause the decline in Southern Hills. that used to be a booming area. Isn't the GM plant in that area? Who is the councilperson for that area. That is a real shame. What are the recommendation to bring that area back. Could they make the old SPMall a LSU or Tech satellite university? I still think that hi rise condo development , golf course resort, casino and fishing village on Cross Lake would be a boom for all areas around Cross lake, even Jewella and Milam street Ghettos. I really think that an agfressive mayour could attract another auto maker plant to Shreveport. who is running for mayor of Shreveport? Look what Rudy G did when he was mayor of NYC ; he turned around a crime ridden ghetto Times square into a health tourist area- aka- Allendale, Cedar Grove. As far as the poverty rate-that reflect why Shreveport has a high crime rate. I know a lot of my fellow blogger hate what I am saying but it really comes down to the real mentality of the citizen of Shreveport. Just look at Atlanta 50 years ago- hurting big time. but the positive mentality really turn the city into a World class city. Fifty years ago if some one would have told yout that Atlanta would host the Olympics they would put you in a mental hospital. Its all about the mentality people. Shreveport lets get rid of the Racist attutude. during my AF days being stationed there I came across some of the most brilliant African American people that I have encountered anywhere. In closing, it all in the mentality of the citizens. I want to know that children of Shreveport- Bossier can stay there and find the careers they desire
