  1. Marshall square should start soon. Augusta mall has touch every new lifestyle center in the metro area. "What's happening is perhaps the Columbia County portion of the metropolitan market is having to grow a little more to support something like this," Mr. Browning said.

57.5 acres, which will include a hotel, offices, restaurants, retail shops and living spaces.

    Great news for evans.

  2. The buzz for 2008 is major growth. Alot of it downtown

Development along the riverfront is the plan for 2008. There's a plan for new shops, the Trade, Exhibit and Events Center, the baseball complex, and a public park all along the river.

1st Annual Ball Drop in Downtown Augusta for New Years

A 15 foot ball will drop 120 feet at the stroke of midnight on 11th street in the heart of downtown Augusta. They say they hope to start a tradition. And do it every year.

Augusta is growing. It's growing with the rest of the big cities. I think we need to do this," he said. "It's nice, it's nice."

  3. More info on the kroc center in harrisburg. This area will be a major downtown corridor in the future. I think in the next 5 years. Augusta will pass south carolina cities. And alot of other cities in the southeast.

Kroc center estimated up to 110 million

    It will have four facilities.

    One stop center

    Recreation center

    Arts & Education/Worship center

    Enterprise park

Joan Kroc in January 2004 gave $1.5 billion

Only 10 cities in the south have been approved for funding.

Some who are close Memphis, Charlotte, Greenville, Louisville, Atlanta. Construction should start this year or 09

  4. North Augusta leaders aim to control growth

Avoiding the congestion that came with growth in Columbia and Richmond counties will be one of the obstacles North Augusta city leaders will have to overcome.

  5. 762 area code was introduce to GA in 2006. 762 is a overlay for the 706 region. I was just wondering have they started to give it out in large numbers yet. In cities like augusta, athens, and columbus. I can see why 706 ran out. It covers north ga, columbus & augusta

    map762.jpg

  6. Does anybody know somebody with a 762 area code.

706 area code residents Athens, Augusta, Columbus, Cornelia, Dalton, LaGrange, Rome and Toccoa

Alot of people are moving to georgia. I expect the state to add another area code in the near future.

  7. Medical College of GA Expansion

Friday that the federal agency had given the housing authority permission to sell the 15-acre housing development to MCG for $6.89 million

the housing authority also has plans to build $45 million in smaller, mixed-income developments. They are looking at a couple of sites.

The move is "a bold step to begin to deinstitutionalize poverty in this city, to no longer isolate Augusta's poor from the mainstream of Augusta's population," Mr. Young said.

Augusta is slowly but surely revitalizing old housing near downtown and east augusta.

  8. Construction on 520 palmetto pkwy is going to hit high gear this month.

when the parkway is completed it should provide easy fast access to I-20 through North Augusta and ease the high trucking traffic on U.S. Highway 25.

done by July 31, 2009. six miles of new interstate, four interchanges and 13 new bridges.

The first picture looks pretty wide i wonder how many lanes.

  9. St. sebastian downtown. The plan is to extend St.Sebastian way across the Augusta canal down to Reynolds Street. It also calls for an extension to Greene Street to Riverwatch Parkway. The stretch next to Enterprise Mill would become five lanes and lead to a new road and bridge connecting to Riverwatch.

2 years to complete. The cost is 45 million

  10. If Savannah's CSA included its neighboring South Carolina counties (Jasper and Beaufort), Savannah would take over the #2 spot surpassing Augusta/Aiken and it would continue to be #2 as both the Savannah and Hilton Head metros are growing at a much faster pace than Augusta and the other 2nd tier GA metros/CSA's. With the addition of Hilton Head, the CSA is over 500,000.

I don't think people dont realize the connection between Savannah and Hilton Head. The media, the tourism, Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport and the distance from downtown Savannah to Beaufort County is approx. 30 mins and the Hilton Head metro includes Jasper county which is right across the bridge from Savannah.

It appears that people forgot that the Savannah area is bustling and it honestly has a more diverse economy than any other 2nd tier city- tourism, military, the #4 largest port in the country, manufacturing.

Augusta, Macon, Columbus enthusiasts continue to ignore Savannah from these discussions. I would argue Savannah is clearly #2 in the state as has less reliance on Atlanta than anyone else and its area has the most potential for continued growth (economically and population).

It has already been established by charts that augusta is number 2 in the state. Even with savannah's tourism, military, and their economy. Augusta is third in ga in tourism, and has the communication center of the u.s. in ft. gordon. Savannah is third in ga right behind augusta as far as economic importance in the state.

Also i doubt that savannah has any less reliance on atlanta than augusta does. When the olympics came to atlanta, augusta didn't recieve any benefit. They both are isolated away from atlanta unlike macon, and columbus who tend to lend on atlanta more.

If you add jasper & beaufort counties to savannah, im sure ppl from every second tier city would say how they could add counties to their msa or csa to.

augusta beat savannah for number 2 in ga.

share of state augusta 3.9% and savannah 3.8%

Thats pretty good, i thought the ports and tourist might win out.

  16. Most populated counties for GA's largest cities.(sc for augusta) (columbus for ala). Atlanta is the only city with 700,000 plus in 3 counties. Augusta is the only 2nd tier city with 100,000 in 3 counties. Atlanta has a huge lead on everybody and augusta's lead is comfortable to.

  17. The 10th Street project from Broad to Ellis Street is now under construction

The project will completely revamp one half of 10th Street, making it more inviting for visitors. It will feature new antique-style street lamps, newly poured sidewalks and five new trees. The intersection will also feature a kiosk with a map of downtown and an explanation of the streetscape concept. Construction should be done in 1 to 3 months

  18. Macon metro on some sites have diffrent counties, i guess thats why the numbers change

google had 15 counties for macon Baldwin, Bibb, Bleckley, Butts, Crawford, Dodge, Houston, Jasper, Jones , Laurens, Monroe, Peach, Pulaski, Twiggs, Wilkinson

yahoo had 18 counties for macon including dooly, wilcox, and i can't believe washington county who tags are in augusta everyday.

But Atlanta forming a CSA with columbus and macon before augusta and columbia form one. I don't know it will be close

Augusta airport to columbia airport 62 miles

Macon airport to atlanta 80 miles

Columbus airport to atlanta 83 miles

Atlanta is bigger but augusta and columbia are 18 miles closer

Gracewood, ga is its own city in south richmond why idk. In the 2010 census 12 to 15,000 ppl will be missing from augusta population more than likely. Tobacco rd/ hephzibah is the fastest growing part of richmond county, their are plans to build another middle school in the cross creek area very soon. Hephzibah just added 2 elementary schools 4 miles apart this yr

  19. Top Ga metros

    5. Macon, GA MSA 229,326 Macon-Warner Robins-Fort Valley, GA CSA 476,954

Augusta is the only large city in ga who doesn't have a CSA to boost its population. Augusta should form a CSA with columbia since their only 45 mins apart. It could be called Augusta-Columbia-Newberry, GA- SC CSA 1,264,782
